Uwabami looks at her two interns sadly. Usually when she forces people into the spotlight they eventually work up some confidence. After two days, she sadly saw no improvement. Looks like it is time to move onto plan B. First, she needs to call Nedzu about moving onto that track.
Momo sighed as she looked in the mirror. She really didn’t think this fit her. Was she really set up to be a hero, or was she doomed to be only seen for her body.
“Hey Momo, are you okay?” Kendo asked her partner.
“I don’t know if I should be a hero”
“Why do you say that?”
“Look at us… are we only going to be know for our body”
Kendo stays silent as she slowly walks in from the doorway.
“I… I don’t know,” Kendo finally replies.
Uwabami sighs as she listens from the doorway. She didn’t want to break down the confidence of her two interns more. The original greeting she says stating that she just chose them for their looks is meant to lean into the idea of most people’s confidence issues coming from body dysmorphia.
“Hey girls, let’s go patrol,” Uwabami says as she enters the door.
“Is this just for a signing?” Kendo asks, skeptical of Uwabami’s motives.
“Nope there is a new villain on the blocks and I think you two can help me”
“Help you?” Momo asks.
“Yes, the villain has caused multiple building to collapse and both of your quirks can be useful”
“Are you sure we can be useful…” Kendo says hopefully.
“Yes, look, you two are some of the most talented kids I have seen. You don’t need to doubt yourselves. After we deal with this let’s talk more one on one”
Momo smiled as she helped a kid out of a crater.
“Do you need any first aid?” Momo asked as she ran through a few chemical formulas for some bandage wraps.
“My arm is bleeding. Do you think you could do anything about it” the kid said as he held up his arm. The arm seemed to have some dirt rubbed into the wound as Momo looked at this, and she shook her head.
“Give me a second to make some alcohol to clean the wound and then I will bandage it” She said as she quickly ran through the formulas in her head. Grabbing the bottle out of her arm she quickly made bandages and some tissues. She cleaned the wound first with the tissues after dousing them with alcohol.
“It stings!” The kid whined.
“That means it’s working, how about I give you a toy for being a strong boy”
“Really?” The kid asked.
“Yes, what toy do you want?” Momo asks the kid as she bandages the arm.
“Can you make a toy dinosaur?” They asked.
“Sure, do you have a favorite dinosaur?”
“Can you do a T-rex?”
“Sure” Momo said as the toy slowly started to come out of her skin.
Kendo smiled as she lifted a boulder up to let an elderly couple pass though.
“Thank you sweetie for helping us evacuate”
“No problem mam” Kendo smiled as she spoke.
“Kendo, Momo, I need you to help me with the villain!” Uwabami yelled to her interns.
“What do you need help with?” Kendo asks Uwabami.
“Kendo I can’t provide enough offensive power. Can you hold off the villain while Momo creates some sleeping gas. Remember the objective of a hero is to capture not kill”
“Got it Uwabami” Momo says as she starts to bring up the memory of the chemical compound.
“Got it,” Kendo says as she jumps into the fray.
Kendo activates her quirk as she stands across from her opponent. The Villain started to buff up their body. They seemed to have a quirk similar to muscular. She shivered at that thought.
“Come at me little girl” The villain said as he pulled his arm back ready to punch her.
Kendo braced herself as she swung her arm forward also. After blows were exchanged, she was shocked as the villain was knocked back and not her. With this simple fact established she smiles. Maybe it is time to stop doubting herself and keep going.
Uwabammi smiles as Kendo seems to realize her strength. She then turns her attention to Momo.
“You got this Momo. You’re the number 1 student of UA for a reason. That is the true reason I chose you. I know you’re smart,”
Momo frowned as she slowly created the canister. While it probably wasn’t illegal, using actual chemicals on a person still felt wrong.
“Look, I know you might feel doubts about this, but think about Midnight or your classmate Ashido. Both of their quirks have a chemical makeup and are used on people. You don’t need to always limit yourself to cause the least harm, or always try to find the most effective solution. It’s okay if you use something that you normally wouldn’t. Your quirk is amazing as a mixed bag of potential.” Uwabami cheered.
With those words of confidence, Momo gripped the canister tightly before rushing forward.
She jumped over one of the punches before creating a handcuff around it holding it down as she sprayed the gas into their face.
Kendo and Momo watch as the villain finally falls before they smile at each other. They actually did it.
After the girls left to go back to UA, Uwabammi smiled before going off to a film studio. In the studio there were a few actor files, a mechanical costume mimicking a strength quirk, and a few props of false debris. The whole incident was staged by her agency. While the girls didn't gain much confidence from being on camera, they sure gained it from what they thought was field work.
