Work Text:
Kiichi strolled in as always, with authority like he owned the place despite only being an occasional and, in Atsushi's opinion, bad customer. He had long dropped the act of strolling down the small but well furnished alleys. But this time, his step held an unusual urgency as he charged straight to the counter where Atsushi could be seen reading a book.
"What the fuck, Kimishita."
"Good evening to you too, Kiichi."
He slammed his hands on the counter.
"DON'T. Just fucking tell me what the fuck is that about you leaving for Taiwan!?"
Atsushi sighed.
"There's nothing to tell. I'm leaving for Taiwan. End of the story."
"Are you fucking kidding me right now? We- You're the vice-captain! We're a team! You're the one who wouldn't stop yapping at me and now that it's well drilled into my head you leave!?"
"It's called an exchange program and-"
"I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT THAT'S CALLED."
He put a hand on his chest, in an attempt to restrain his growing anger from overtaking him.
"And why the FUCK wasn't I aware of that until 15 minutes ago!!!???"
He turned the page of his novel.
"You're so thick-headed maybe your stupid brain only just now processed the news?"
Kiichi glared at him.
"An exchange program, which means you applied months ago and have known for just as long. And you wanna know how I I learnt about it? From Tsukamoto. He asked me if I was coming to say goodbye to you at the airport. TOMORROW."
He inhaled.
"FUCKING TOMORROW."
He passed his hand on his face.
"Why? Why would you do that? Why wouldn't you tell me? I.. I thought we were finally good. I had passed the midterms, we had a good team, good recruits and a nice shot at the Spring tournament."
He let out a long sigh and bore his eye into Atsushi.
"You've known the entire time and still didn't say shit uh. You filled my head my head with bullshit about trust and honesty but the rules don't apply to you. Or maybe they just don't apply because you hate me that much. Look at me."
A beat passed with no reaction.
"Look at me."
Still no reaction.
"ATSUSHI."
He turned another page and utter silence fell inside the small store.
Suddenly, a dry laugh came out of Kiichi.
"Well I guess I should have known you'd run away. Afterall, your long time wish was to get rid of me. Now I guess your dream has finally come true."
He turned around, his back facing him.
"Congrats."
Kiichi walked away, missing the misty eyes and tightened lips on his former vice-captain's face.
