Like a moth to a flame, Yoongi was drawn to Jimin. And, like the end that befalls all moths who get too close to the light, Yoongi knows that Park Jimin will be his demise.

Chapter 1: 01

Chapter Text

🐾

Yoongi crooned as he huddled the cat to his chest. The poor creature was shivering, fur slick against it's skinny body, mews pitiful as it tried to snuggle it's way further into the boy's warm body.

“Hey, hey… it's okay, little one. You're safe here.” Yoongi kicked open the door to his cottage, not even batting an eyelid as the cat scrambled out of his arms and scurried over to the gently glowing embers of a fire in the fireplace at the back of his home, claws clattering haphazardly against the boy's ‘precious’ hardwood flooring. “The rain must have given you quite the fright, huh?” Yoongi crouches down beside the furry creature, watching as it cleaned itself, emerald eyes watching the amber flames with an intense stare.

It purred in response, arching it's back as it stretched out with a slight hiss before promptly curling up and falling a sleep. “Fine… I guess you can stay the night.”

🐾

The next morning was somewhat of a bore to Yoongi. Sure, the cat made good company while he busied himself, tinkering with old lamps and bulbs he sought from the little thrift shop in the village that backed onto his woods, but there was only so many times he could endure it's angry hiss for attention before he went mad with irritation.

“Right- that's it- it was nice saving you but you've got to-” his words were cut off by the shrill ring of his doorbell, the cat giving a presumptuous huff before sauntering off into the garden through the back door. Yoongi rolled his eyes.

“Coming~” he calls out, hurrying to remove his tattered leather work gloves and fix up the mop of messy mint-green hair covering his forehead. He'd hated the colour at first, having accidentally mixed up larkspur and dandelion roots when in a fit of anger while trying to dye his hair, and had ended up with such a garishly green colour that he'd refused to leave the house for fear of scaring away the wildlife. But, over time, the sun had faded it to an almost pretty pastel colour, which made him look quite beautiful, if he did say so himself.

The knock came again and Yoongi fought off the urge to roll his eyes again. Why were visitors always so rude and impatient?

“Can I help you?” His voice came out sharper than expected, making him wince inwardly at the widened eyes of another boy staring back at him. He'd scared off several potential visitors in the past, but those had all been nosy villagers wanting to know what he was upto hiding himself away like this in the woods. This visitor didn't seem like that. Not at all.

‘Jimin’, as he introduced himself, was certainly nothing like those interfering, old ladies he'd had poking around in his business before. He had soft features, soft curls of hair brushing the tips of his ears as he moved to bow to Yoongi, a soft yellow t-shirt draped over his slim torso, soft freckles tracing the bridge of his nose and the curve of his cheeks. In fact, all Yoongi could think about was how soft and precious the boy looked, golden skin glimmering in the mid-morning sun, a sort of beacon for him to worship. Shut it, Yoongi. You barely know this guy, stop being a freak.

“Yoongi.” He replied instead. He waited a moment as Jimin blinked back at him. “...” The silence seemed to stretch on for days, Yoongi's heart hammering in his chest, dusty wings drawn back behind himself.

“Can I help you..?” Jimin almost jumped, pupils enlarging as he hurries to nod his head, hair bouncing slightly at the movement.

“I believe you have my cat..?” At the creasing of Yoongi's brows, the guy elaborates. “A black one? Green eyes- quite demanding? He ran out here into the woods at the first noise of the storm and I can sense he's somewhere round here…” his voice trails off at the lack of response. “I- uh… is he not here..? I'm sorry if I bothered you-” Jimin makes to leave and Yoongi wants to reach out to grab him.

“N- no- he's here- out the back- …sorry.” He inwardly curses himself at the fact he'd zoned out daydreaming. Daydreaming?! He steps aside awkwardly to let Jimin in, cringing at the state of his cottage as he trailed after him to the back of the house. There were vials and old-fashioned glass lights strung from the ceiling like trinkets, and books scattered across the floor in no particular order, as if the house had purposely done this to itself just to embarrass him as soon as a cute guy comes over.

“Tuna!” The cat yowls at Jimin, stretching out where it'd been sunbathing on the cracked patio of Yoongi's back garden.

“You named your cat ‘Tuna’?” Yoongi finds himself letting out a snort of laughter. “No wonder he ran away from you~” Jimin glares indignantly.

“He likes the name, and besides, it's fitting since it's all he will eat.” Ring-adorned fingers curl around the cat's middle, scooping it up from it's resting place despite its noises of protest. “C'mon- its time to go~ Kookie is missing you.”

Yoongi raises an eyebrow. “Is Kookie it's cat friend or something?

“Kookie is my roomate.” He finds himself hiding behind his mint hair at that, wishing he could pretend the last few seconds didn't happen.

Oh…” The moth-boy trails off awkwardly. “Well- it's not my fault I thought he was a cat- you give your pets and friends such stupid names that they all seem like each other~” He knows that was technically out of order to say to a stranger, but at this point, he couldn't bring himself to care.

The other boy blinks incredulously once again at Yoongi's words.

“Sorry- moth hybrid… we tend to not have much of a filter.” He rubs the back of his neck, a little shamefully.

“Oh-” Jimin's eyes light up. “Koo- Jungkook-ah is a hybrid too~ a bunny one, but still- hybrids are rare nowadays- is that why you hide all alone out here?” As if he knew his words were invasive, Jimin shrunk in on himself, eyes averted as Yoongi Just stares at him blankly.

“I- uh- no.” And when he doesn't elaborate more than that, ‘golden boy’ doesn't seem to mind.
