(Drabble)

Work Text:

The sun was setting over the horizon and from the hill Ishigami Village was slowly painted in red as the day grew to an end.

Gen put down a flower infront of the small stone pillar. One of many, as the others have already paid their visits. He taps the little wooden toy resembling a scale as he sat down on the ground.

"Suika build that, you know? Said its practical and is specially weighted, some physics stuff. That you would like it."

A bitter laugh escaped Gen's lips. He leaned his head against the heated stone surface.

"Somehow I dont escape the horrible labor even when you aren't there to drag me along. So mean-ay."

The silence grew. Nobody would answer him after all. No jolly laugh. No gentle chiding. No wrinkly old hand pulling him along with a strength that never ceased to surprise him.
Despite the stinging sensation in Gen's eye, he still looked composed.

"This is your first birthday after you passed... I know you were old, but isn't it rude to go like that?" The laugh was chocked up. The slender fingers of the magician stroke over the carved in name on the gravestone.

Despite having achieved so much progress on the artisian side of science - with the revival of humanity and all - the grave was modest. Someone from the Kingdom of Science always took care of the graveside. Especially the young ones left all kinds of gifts as tributes, from flowers and pretty stones to carvings and other mementos.
A miniature Steam Gorilla between those gifts - fully functional of course.

Gen rambled on about his day and what projects everyone was working at. Something he did every few days, but never grew tired of. He couldn't leave an old friend out of the loop after all.

After his report, Gen stood up and gave the stone a few friendly pats as a sign of goodbye.

"We miss you, dear Kaseki."
