Work Text:
The world, now bleak and grey. The sun no longer shone as it was all covered in smoke and smog.
The human race was depleting rapidly, and only a few survived, as they needed to become like him, like their ruler. Only some humans were left, from humans to cyborgs, but they were enslaved, as the part robotic ones had more power in this new world.
Nix Voltare hated humans. He despised them. They were cruel, did not care for others, and were war-hungry animals. They made him lose all his humanity, taking away his family and then his friends, making him less and less human every passing day. He still remembered, his memory was not corrupted this time, how the Doctor killed his friends, from the screams of agony to the crying of pain, how he couldn't do anything.
The Doctor and his helpers took everything he loved away, and only one person remained. One person, and he had to cage him. There was no way Nix would let the last person close to him slip away through his fingers, so if chaining him and caging him was what had to be done, so be it. He wasn’t letting the vampire leave; he was the only person, the only thing he kept and never altered.
Lucien, the vampire wanderer, was kept in Nix’s skyrise home, skyrise tower, and confined to a room, a lavish bedroom with any luxury he needed, from food to a private bath to having the best view of the new society. Nix also visited him frequently. Luci was the last of Avallum and Ravanis to be alive, and Nix, once he rose to power and influence, kept him and never let him leave. Luci was his pet. Even when Nix refuted the idea of Luci being his pet, saying he was keeping Luci safe from the disgusting humans, the vampire knew that Nix’s obsession to keep him alive had wrung his mind to the point of seeing Luci as a pet to own.
Today was feeding day.
“Master Voltare.” one servant said to the leader of the new society. Nix looked up from his desk,
“Yes,” he asked, more of commanded, wanting the servant to go away.
“We have two new humans to feed to Lucien—” the servant was cut off by a glass being thrown at him,
“Silence!” Nix bellowed, standing from his desk.
“It is Master Lunaris to you, Chattel!” he growled, the human servant growled,
“I'm sorry, Master Voltare, b-bu, we have gathered more humans for Master Lunaris to feed from…” the servant said. Nix sighed and sat back down.
“Very well, prepare them and give them to Lucien, and tell him I’ll see him in approximately 15 minutes.” Nix dismissed the servant and returned to work. Nix looked out the window, and a small smile crept onto Nix’s lips. He always looked forward to seeing Luci. How could he not? Luci was his last friend who was alive. The only one left. His most beloved friend. His most beloved. His.
Luci sat in his room, biting into a human’s shoulder, a sorrowful expression seen in his eyes. As a vampire, to feed primarily on souls—occasionally on blood—would have to kill innocent people just to live. Of course, Nix provided. But he still felt terrible.
“Sorry…” he mumbled, laying the now dead human onto the floor. Still hungry, he fed on the other one, too. As he fed, he heard the door of his room open, and he knew it was Nix. He was informed. The blue-haired man entered the room and just stood there. Watching Lucien kill those blasted humans. Nix hated the fact that Luci had to touch those disgusting animals, his hands on their bodies. If anything, Luci's hands should only feel him. But he stood there quietly, watching Luci feed on the lowlife animals.
Once Lucien was done, Nix got a servant to dispose of the body, not wanting a trace of blood left. He and Luci were alone at last.
“Luci!” He said gleefully, a whole 180, how he acted in front of others.
“Did you enjoy your meal?” He asked. The Vampire just hummed and went to sit on his large bed. Nix followed and stood by.
“How has your day been?” The cyborg asked. Luci didn't look at him but graced the younger boy with an answer,
“The same.” He said blankly.
Luci's day was always the same. Bleek. Dull. Nothing happened. He did nothing but eat, sleep, talk to Nix, and occasionally play his guitar. Luci was kept in a room in the highrise building. He was never allowed to leave, so he was also on many supplements made by Nix to ensure his health. Not like he couldn't take them. Nix personally gave Luci the supplements.
“That's good. The same is great. There's no need for change.” Nix said, his voice changing to coldness, yet he still smiled.
“Change isn't a need. Not that it will ever happen.” Nix went on, not caring if Luci was paying attention.
“You understand why I keep you here, right?” Nix asked, his voice simulating a warmth that wasn't there. He walked closer to Luci and hugged him from the side. The vampire knew why. He knew it all too well but didn't say anything, as always. Nix kept Luci isolated, away from the world, for his safety, as Nix puts it.
“For my safety…” Luci murmured loud enough for Nix to hear—a cold, calculated grin formed on the cyborg’s face.
“Exactly, for your safety. For you're own good.”
The clock in Luci's suite ticked by. He was in Nix's embrace; he was being held, and the hug was not one of comfort but possession and slight protectiveness.
“Nix…” Luci sighed out, getting a hum from the blue-haired man,
“... I think your need to protect me…has gone too far…could I at least have free roam of the place? And not be confined to this room?” he asked softly, careful of what he said and how he said it. Nix was like a time bomb, ready to go off any moment. But Luci was met with silence.
The silence grew thicker, heavier. Nix just stood there, cradling Lucien and fixing his hair occasionally, but soon, a laugher, thick like honey, lacked any of the same sweetness the golden substance was known to hold. The laughter was forced, dark almost.
“Too far?” Nix asked, “My protection is going too far? Is it too much?” Luci whined, hearing the slight gritting of teeth,
“You know what happened to them. What the Doctor and his underlings did to Your Avallum, My Ravanis.” Nix said, all too knowingly. Luci shivered, remembering what had happened, the killing, the blood, the sounds, everything.
“Luci, you’re safe here,” Nix’s sugary sweet tone was back. It was inaccurately inviting.
“Safe here, in this room.”
“You have everything you could ever want,” Nix said, his hands cupping Luci’s face, “Do you need more?” Nix asked,
“If you do, I’ll grant it.”
“You don’t have to leave. There’s nothing out of these walls for you, Luci.” Nix coaxed him.
Soon, Luci felt Nix’s cold lips press to his cheeks. Despite what Luci wanted, he flushed red. The kiss was gentle, sweet, and warming—yet the unsettling feeling of dread and discomfort soon followed. This gesture, one of intimacy, made Luci tremble.
“Out there, out of these walls, are nothing but filthy humans, disgusting humanitarians that aren’t worth to keep persevering. So just stay with me in these walls where you are safe. Nothing, but I can reach you, touch you.” Nix hummed.
Luci just sat on the bed, not saying anything, as he let Nix do as he pleased. His answer was both answered and left unanswered. But Luci very well knew he was going to be kept in the room. There was no need to escape, as Nix pointed out, and all he could do was be obedient, just like a pet is to their master.
Luci was the pet. Nix was his master.
