Work Text:
Atsushi stares out the window, watching as white continues to fall from the sky. It’s been snowing for hours now, and he’s fairly certain that it won’t be stopping any time soon. The ground is covered in white, thick snow surrounding the building he’s currently stuck in.
“I don’t think we’ll be getting out of here any time soon,” Atsushi says, half mumbling to himself and half telling Akutagawa across the way from him. He turns his head when he hears shuffling from Akutagawa’s direction.
It’s no surprise that Akutagawa is keeping his distance from Atsushi—they’re not really friends, but Atsushi wouldn’t really consider them enemies anymore, either. It’s an awkward stage between them, especially because Atsushi can’t tell just how Akutagawa feels about him most days.
“Dazai-san will probably find his way here eventually,” Atsushi says, trying not to snicker at the wrinkle of Akutagawa’s nose. “With Kunikida-san, too. They’ll probably end up rescuing us.”
Coughing into his hand, Akutagawa makes an about face. Atsushi can’t help but chuckle now, finally stepping away from the window.
“At least we’re some place a bit nicer than a storage warehouse or something,” He says, attempting to lighten the atmosphere. Akutagawa simply glances at him, still making a face, so Atsushi shrugs. “We could be in a much worse scenario.”
Akutagawa snuffs quietly as he turns his head, gazing towards the window. Atsushi studies his side profile, taking him in. He’s… handsome, honestly. Atsushi’s always tried to convince himself he’s not, but he’s never been good at that. He stares for too long, suddenly meeting Akutagawa’s gaze as the other man turns back to him.
It makes Atsushi jump slightly in place, heat rising to his cheeks. He coughs into his fist as he turns and starts walking down a hall. “I’ll—I’ll go look for some blankets, just in case.”
He can feel Akutagawa’s gaze on his back as he walks away, and Atsushi finds himself hoping and praying that Dazai and Kunikida will be here sooner rather than later.
