Work Text:
If she was being honest, she couldn't fully recall when it all started. And if she was actually being honest with herself, it was probably when she became in possession of magical earrings, but saying that doesn't make her feel any better. When she and Adrien started dating, both as civilians and as heroes, she had every possible bad 'what if?' fly through her mind a mile a second! Yet somehow this horrendous outcome had never even crossed her mind. Marinette Dupain-Chang, who thought of every worst case scenario, no matter how unlikely, hadn't even thought of this in the realm of possibility. Yet somehow this nightmare was her new reality.
Adrien finds it absolutely hilarious, as Does Alya. Even Nino laughed at her pain! Honestly it's all Lila's fault! If she hadn't been just so... evil! Then she never would have done it!
But now, it's been two weeks and she's recovered from the 'injuries' she got from the 'traumatic' event. Honestly, she knows for a fact it didn't hurt nearly as much as she says it did, Adrien even told her how she held back! He was probably more hurt then her, and he just said his technique could have been better! Because honestly, they had it down to an art form. It has become a genuine form of fighting for them, mainly because it has never failed them!
Even as civilians it works perfectly. Well almost, sadly Lila is back and already spewing about how horrible it was and how she was completely innocent. While some of the class still believed her lies, most had finally seen reason and started backing up Marinette, the others still trust Marinette! Don't get her wrong. They just... also listen to every lie Lila says as though she's the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.
All this to say, when Lila was talking crap about her when she could clearly hear, it was to be expected she react. And react she did.
"Honestly I was terrified! It was like being locked in a cage with a feral animal!" Lila's overdramatic telling of the story mixed with her overbearing voice grates on Marinettes nerves. She looks up from her lunch towards the small crowd of people surrounding Lila’s table, luckily none of her friends were there but it was still a decent crowd, all making sympathetic noises to Lila while looking at her like she has rabies. Trying to turn her focus back towards her sad cafeteria lunch instead, why she didn’t go home she honestly doesn’t know, when Adrien walks up towards her. Soft smile easing the tension in her shoulders. Honestly he was an absolute angel and the only reason Lila hasn’t been strung out to dry on the Eiffel Tower, yet. Lila, however, being the shedevil that she is, took notice of him as well, not noticing his smile was directed towards Marinette and not her.
"Adrien! Come sit with us! You don't want Marinette throwing you again, do you?" Lila's eyes dart over at Marinette, giving her a glare that made her blood boil. Without a single other thought aside from 'villain', she grabs Adrien's shirt, lifts him above her head and throws him at Lila.
Unlike the first time, she got much better air on him, giving him a good amount of velocity. Also, unlike last time, he was expecting it more, and was able to prepare for impact. And the final difference was that Alya was able to whip her phone out in time to record the impending disaster. It all happened so fast Lila had no time react and brace herself, so she ended up on the floor with Adrien rolling off of her into the gymnastics stance, smiling so wide it made Marinette's cheeks hurt to look at.
His joyous laughter fills the halls like sweet bells ringing, it's mixed with Alyas witch like cackling and Nino's wheezing giggle. But the most terrifying sound is Chloé's laugh ringing out beside them. Since she got a second chance at Queen Bee she's been a lot nicer to everyone, more so just sarcastic. But she was concerned last time Marinette threw Adrien, him for injuries and Marinette for incase she got in trouble. But to hear her laughing as well? That means that all of her fellow heroes have abandoned her.
She hates all of them.
