Now I guess I'm something else [collage]

Summary:

A fallow year is the space left between one productive growing season and the next. Even the land needs space to breathe, and on a meteor, the Worldhopping Vestige catches his breath. A collage based on Fallow Year.

Work Text:

 

Collage of images themed around food and the universe. Bubbles blow through space opening up into the universe. There’s a rage comic that goes “If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch…” with a guy sitting patiently with a chef’s hat and apples and flour – “you must first invent the universe”, to which our chef goes “FFFUUUUUU-”. There are quilts themed after a sheaf of wheat and a night sky, and cans of soda that contain sea and stars. There’s a can opener. These things open into rows of seeds and cookies, and a warm picture of people gathered around a steaming hotpot, seen through a window embedded in the quilt-night. Overlaid across the collage are lyrics: “I thought that I might lose my breath the living and the coming death The living and the aftermath” “And I used to be a waste of time A burning match lit underground A figure in the shadowland A feather in a cage” “Now I guess I'm something else A raven on an overpass A wanderer, a silver ghost A beacon” and: “The tallest summit you look up to Someday it's gonna look small to you There's a new one coming into view And you'll climb that too but before you do You get time to stand looking off the ledge Where the rivers branch to the east and the west And to catch your breath at the sight of it”
