Summary:

Notes:

Picture To Burn (https://youtu.be/yCMqcFAigRg)

A/N: Yes, I know another one. I put forth no defense, only that this needed to be written and while the lyrics might not fit the one shot, it is more the vibe.

Work Text:

The idea of opposites attracting is something that Sinclair thinks of often when he thinks of y/n. She was everything he was not, for while Sinclair might be described as sunshine embodied or even golden retriever, with his hair golden as a halo and sunshine personality. She was all fire, her tongue always having a sharp thing to say should they get on her bad side. Her face resting at frown, even if she does not intend it too. Yet in spite of everything in her seemingly cold and distant, she was everything but that, for once you got past her well sharped words, she was everything. Something Sinclair was constantly reminded of and while some might ask whether or not she reminded him of Natalie with her sometimes seemingly withdrawn demeanor, on a good day Sinclair could say, no because while Natalie took her sharp words to target him, y/n used her words in protection of herself and her family.

So when Sinclair had initially told y/n of Natalie in a moment of insecurity, with a fear that like every else she would merely feel pity, pity that he had been so blind. So blind as not to see that his ex-wife was not only having an affair, but one with her next in kin, the very kin that Sinclair had taken in confiding in. Fearing that if she did his heart might break, through he already knew perhaps he was in too deep once more. Instead he watched as y/n's eyes went firey, her fist becoming clutched, looking as if she was about to gut someone.

Yet while the smallest part of Sinclair feared it might be towards him, as Natalie had a tendency on getting angry at Sinclair at the smallest of things. Most of Sinclair knew better at least he hoped so. His thoughts proving right when y/n uttered her first words. "That bitch," she proclaimed, as for all her anger and sharp words, y/n rarely cussed unless needed to.

To hear such a word come out of her, cause Sinclair to let out one of his full hearted laugh, for nobody had dared to call Natalie such a thing. For Natalie for all of her brother sleeping was seemingly the model of class, womanly charm, with a fun side (at least so Sinclair had thought). When y/n saw the look on Sinclair face, her eyes became that of confusion. "What?"

As Sinclair continued to laugh at Natalie for the first time in what felt like forever. He tried to wait until after he was finished to speak. "it's just I have never heard someone describe her like that," he said barely getting it out before going into another bit of laughter.

"Well they were cunts for not saying so."

"Actually retract the cuss word, she does not deserve the likes of my cussing, she is a cunt."

"A cunt," Sinclair asked, his eyebrows furrowing in both confusion and interest. For at the time in spite of everything Sinclair still thought himself to be missing something, even nearing five years after the divorce and four since the affair (much of the time between spent debating and disagreeing with Natalie over court).

Yes, she is a cunt. Not only did she sleep with her brother, but she tried to blame you. Man if I met her she would be meeting a special someone."

"And who is this someone," Sinclair asked, already amusement in y/n antics momentarily. Knowing it was sure to be fierce and violent.

"Why my fists of course," y/n said, as she allowed her hand to hit her palm, clearly ready to fight someone or at least throat them.

In spite of the clear violent fury Sinclair could see in y/n, one that some might deter against he could not help but smile. For never had he ever seen such a reaction to Natalie aside from his own in court (through honestly for Sinclair the entire divorce trial was a blur and a mess to keep out of the papers). "Oh really."

"Yes and I mean it. I mean I knew someone did something to you," she started to say and before Sinclair could let his thoughts spiral, y/n continued once more. "And by did something to you, I mean tore you down. Which is stupid, because look at you. How can anyone do that to you? Through I should have connected it with Natalie, I wanted to give her a benefit of a doubt in case you still felt anything kind towards her. But screw kind, we are angry now," y/n said, as she continued on her angry rant. A rant Sinclair was more than pleased to see, seeing the protective side of y/n, the side people took as scary, but to Sinclair it was not scary just her, as sharp as a dagger that could cut you, yet stop at the same time.

Through Sinclair might have been going down memory lane, while y/n was looking around the bookshop, Sinclair merely just following along. He stopped when he felt a tight squeeze in his hand. A squeeze that Sinclair knew y/n rarely did and just as Sinclair was about to ask why, he saw why.

There in the bookshop was her. The very women Sinclair had in a moment of bravery gone to court with. Her hair so perfectly fixed, eyes as steeled as ever, almost as if she had not ruined Sinclair's life. Beside her was the very man she had ruined everything with, their martial bed (he suspected) and every other place he suspected they went in there self proclaimed passion.

Sinclair too stunned to speak for once, not sure what to feel at least until y/n opened his mouth. Sinclair both intrigued and not fearing of what she might say. Prepared to usher people away if need be, for he knew how y/n was. And while one might expect Sinclair to want the very opposite, in this moment Sinclair was not sure what he wanted really. For Sinclair had not seen Natalie since their days in court.

Yet rather than choose the path of violence like Sinclair might have thought, he should have known y/n better. For her path was much more cunning than that. As with all false smiles, she offered her hand out towards Natalie and while others might take this as a sign of y/n being polite Sinclair knew better. As for all his rambles, Sinclair paid more attention than people (other than y/n) had given him credit for.

"You must Natalie, I have heard so much about you."

"Oh have you?"

"Why of course," y/n said being the very picture of Regina George from Mean Girls in her false words.

To this Sinclair could see Natalie look to Richard, almost as if she was fearful of what he might of said. Through it would be nothing that she would not deserve, so y/n has reassured him the few times they did talk about Natalie at least what y/n could manage to say without getting angry in Sinclair's defense.

Yet with all false smiles almost as if Natalie had not done what she did, she spoke. "Well I do hope Sinclair was did not go on about me too much."

"Oh does he?"

"I mean honestly I was always asking him not to go on as such," Natalie proclaimed, tone as false as her personality.

"Did you really?"

"Yes, I mean honestly it was as if he was showing off without meaning too," Natalie said, clearly too comfortable in the moment.

To this y/n allowed her hand to wrap around Sinclair's waist, pulling him closer before leaning on his chest. "Well I happen to think he does not say enough."

"Oh does he," Natalie asked, clearly confused on what y/n was saying. Something Sinclair knew of especially when it came to his wife (because of course he married y/n, how could he not?).

"In fact, I think it is sexy when he rambles. Would you not say so? And his hair it looks so sexy," y/n proclaimed with a look Sinclair knew of as glee. As he allowed her to play with his hair, quite enjoying her touch. Something Sinclair never had with Natalie, through now was not the time to think of her, not when he had y/n and not that Sinclair wanted to think of Natalie. Yet before Sinclair could overthink to himself. y/n continued her statement.

"I mean how does this man get sexier every day?"

To this Sinclair could not help, but his face feel flushed at this, still not so used to y/n proclaiming such a thing even after nearly two years of dating and nearing a full year of marriage. One that Sinclair thought to be thoroughly celebrated especially after today. While Sinclair was clearly flushed, Natalie held a look of discomfort and Richard was not any better, through Sinclair honestly could not seem to have the mind to care.

As Natalie tried to stutter out a replay, clearly being unable to relay on Richard, given the public nature of their surroundings, even if it were a bookshop. "You could say that I suppose," she said, with a small look away.

To this y/n plastered on a smile so false that anyone who knew y/n would know better. As she held her hand out once more. "Through I must say we must be going, but first something Natalie." As y/n pulled Natalie in getting ever close to her ear, all while pulling Sinclair in with them, so he might hear. As y/n whisper words in a hush tone, so only those around could hear. "While I will say bringing your incest side piece takes guts, in spite of the distaste you clearly have. You do anything and I mean anything to harm Sinclair, we will see you in court and I won't be as merciful as Clair was," y/n said keeping a tight grip as she said her next words all with a false smile. "Through who perhaps I might just do it for fun. I am always looking for a good fight," she proclaimed still in hushed tone before releasing Natalie's hand, and taking her tone more un-hushed.

At the clear look of discomfort Sinclair could see on Natalie's face, y/n pulled away as if she did not just say what she did to Natalie. Through Sinclair knew Natalie would not say such a thing, for Natalie cared too much about her own reputation to try anything again. Through y/n was not done just yet. As she plastered on yet another false smile. "Glad to see you agree, now I am going to take Mr. Sexy away before he gets any ideas. Honestly, he seems to thrive off public attention if you know what I mean," y/n said with a wink, before ushering Sinclair away from it all with a stunned Natalie and a helpless Richard.

To which Sinclair followed y/n without a word, until they were out of hearing. To which y/n had her own smile on her face once more. "Enjoy the show?"

"Maybe, I could not help but noticing you called me sexy.

"Because you are."

"Oh am I?"

"Nothing I said to her was a lie, honestly she was lucky I did not do any worse."

"Oh and you could have," Sinclair remarked his face taking more mischief than anyone might suspect from him.

"You know I could've but one but God taught me better. Through that is to say I am not perfect. And I figured you would not want me getting into a fist fight with her at the bookshop that we so adore, nor airing all of her laundry out. Through if I had she would have deserved it for being such a bloody fool.

"Was she," Sinclair asked, his mischief soon being replaced with a smile, something he would have never expected so soon after seeing Natalie.

"She did considering she cheat on you, but proceeded to have horrid taste in men."

"Did she really?"

"Yes, forgetting he is her brother, he is not even much of a looker compared to you. Honestly he does not even seem sexy even without the incest."

"Oh is that right?"

"It is too, have you not learned not to doubt me," y/n said, and in a moment of shock even to Sinclair, y/n slowly cupped his ass in her hands before giving him a squeeze.

"My aren’t we physical today," Sinclair remarked with an amused chuckle, thriving off her affection.

"Hey have to sell the bit somehow, through it would not be much trouble. Now lets go before I change my mind before we end up in court."

"Oh you really go to court for such a matter," Sinclair asked, unable to resist with a question, something he knew y/n would be fine with.

"I would easily go after her just for game. Through I am sure you would rather not fight a physical assault charge. And yet still I am half considering going back just to stuff my fist and screw court towards that...," y/n started before starting into her own sort of rant. Something that Sinclair knew was so much like him.

As while y/n was angry rambling, likely trying to keep the worst of it gone for the place, all Sinclair could do was give her a look of pure adoration, seeing her go all angry for his sake. All while she paused to pick up books to examine before going in again. And even as she went through the angry ramble all Sinclair could do was give her a kiss to the crown of her head, listen to it all, and fall more in love with her.

For he knew when it was all said and done they would go back to the way things were before . And in spite of the only proclaimed words of violence, it is not to say they may never end up in court because of Natalie, as Sinclair knew the extent y/n would go for others especially him, but for now nothing was better than revenge.
