A Game of Dogs and Horses

Summary:

Four years ago, Seong Gihun was crowned the victor of the 33rd Annual Squid Games. Today, he's driving himself mad as he searches for the Recruiter to finally dismantle the Games.

Unfortunately for him, Hwang Inho is very ready to neutralise the weak threat.

(Season 2/Season 3 Rewrite)

Notes:

Like many of us, I was disappointed by the ending of SG3. Over the last couple of months, I've been working on my own rewrite of the second and third seasons, with the aim of delivering something that will hopefully be more satisfying. Not necessarily happy, but more optimistic. Now that I have a sufficient backlog and a full story outline, I decided to post the prologue.

Chapter 1: Nothing Will Matter

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Everything was in Inho’s hands.

It didn’t matter that a crazed, ungrateful deadbeat bum was looking to end his legacy.

It didn’t matter that more of those creatures in pink were openly expressing disdain for his leadership.

It didn’t matter that upper management was openly considering retirement.

It didn’t matter that Mr Oh’s son constantly called for him to be replaced by that lazy-eyed suited fucker.

It didn’t matter that the organisation’s revenue had plummeted since his dear brother’s infiltration.

It didn’t matter that said brother was driving himself to the same level of crazed searching for the island.

It didn’t matter that his beloved Gihyeok was dead.

It’s year nine of his tenure as Squid Game’s Front Man, player recruitment starts tomorrow and he has a nice surprise for the bum.

That’s all that matters.

Notes:

This is quite a short first chapter, but it does everything it needs to do. The first full-length chapter will come very soon.
