Chapter Text
For most people the quality of their life depends on luck. From the moment you’re born you’re either rich or not.
Some people had the fortune of having a loving family and support system despite living below the poverty line. They could be secure in their lives because they were rich in happiness.
Some people were rich in materials but sat through suffocating family dinners and cried themselves to sleep each night. They couldn’t be considered entirely unlucky when they could always buy a holiday house as consolation for bad parenting.
Jeonghan must have been the luckiest man ever. As the prince of Xochon he was born into insurmountable wealth, he could have anything he wanted with just a snap of his fingers.
He also loved his family. The world saw his mothers as ruthless leaders who launched invasions into any kingdoms that didn’t yield. That was obviously true but they doted over Jeonghan constantly, he never questioned how much they loved him.
His elder sister soojin was one of his closest friends too. She always made time for him no matter how busy she was preparing to take over the throne from their mother one day.
Overall there wasn’t a single thing Jeonghan would complain about…until now.
“You don’t understand Shua” he all but screamed at his beta attendant who was watching wide eyed at the prince’s tantrum. “They’re sending me to marry the heir to Ashdell. ASHDELL. That place is so cold and everybody there is super rude and I’m going to hate it” Jeonghan said while huffing.
“It’s not that bad Hannie, you’ve never even been. Maybe the people are nicer than the rumours suggest” Joshua suggested hopefully.
“I’ve heard people talk about the prince before Joshuji. They say he once cut open one of the messengers from Tarriven for looking at him the wrong way. He’s going to kill me, I’m just a fragile omega” Jeonghan lamented dramatically.
Joshua snorted. “You’re anything but fragile, you’re a certified snake.”
Jeonghan gasped at that before throwing one of his embroidered shirts at his friend. “Take that back, I could have you executed for such insolence”
“Sure, whatever you say your highness” Joshua bit back with a grin.
“You’ll come with me won’t you Shua? We’re leaving in only a day, the carriage ride is ages since Ashdell is so far north”
Joshua smiled. “Of course I’m coming with you Hannie, I can’t let you fend the wolves off alone”
Jeonghan smiled back weakly. The thought of marrying Choi Seungcheol was abhorrent. The great alpha of the north who already had a harem of concubines and an army trained in the biting cold. This definitely wasn’t going to be easy.
The next day came all too quickly. His two mothers and sister came to see him off. Nobody could hide the tears at the painful separation.
“Never let an alpha walk all over you” his omega mother told him tearfully.
“Don’t worry mama, Choi Seungcheol is no match for me” he replied with false bravado.
His mothers both smiled and waved his carriage off. Joshua looked at him sadly.
“It’s not goodbye forever Hannie.” He tried to appease.
“I know. It doesn’t hurt any less though” Jeonghan whispered.
