Echoes of reality

Summary:

What happens when eternity disappears overnight?

Bella Swan wakes up in her bedroom in Forks.
Her heart beats.
He’s gone.

Everything feels like a cruel dream — or perhaps a joke of fate: her skin is warm, the world keeps turning, moving forward… and the Cullens never existed.

Between confusion, anxiety, and an impossible longing to return, the only thing she can hold onto are the memories that once belonged to her.

This fanfiction was written purely for entertainment purposes. The world of Twilight and its characters belong to Stephenie Meyer.

Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

“Can you do it again?” he asked.

I pouted.

“It’s really hard,” I whispered.

He waited with an eager expression, so I closed my eyes and pressed my palms against his face once more, trying to push that strange matter from my mind—inviting him to see my being, to witness the memory of my first night as a vampire, my awakening.

But it was his lips against mine that made me falter, dissolving every attempt at my gift.

He drew a nervous laugh out of me; he smiled in response and leaned in closer.

“Damn it…” he murmured against my lower lip, moving slowly—deliciously—down to my jaw until he reached my neck, tracing it with soft caresses. That touch drove me mad, made me forget even my fake breathing.

“We have all the time in the world to perfect it, remember?”

“Forever and always.”

At last, our lips met again while his hands searched for me desperately, exploring my body, removing those unwanted layers of clothing, we couldn’t contain the happiness of what the future held for us.

We sealed that chapter with kisses and sighs; our bodies fell together, basking in our closeness. We could look at each other for hours without ever growing tired. The silence around us was our accomplice.

My eyes slowly drifted shut, my body relaxing as I prepared to show him more of my mind, my heart, my soul, my everything…

“I love you, Edward…”

It was the last thing I whispered before the world disappeared.
