Work Text:

The continuous loses against rsa had apparently had not broken the spirit behind sports events within the school, and with a new flock of freshies, there were new ‘victims’ to Vargas’ teaching.

As the surroundings adjusted to the cold autumn air from the summer temperatures the sports field had dried out slightly, cracking and dipping in places. Since it wasn’t in use over the holiday there hadn’t yet been a need to fix the condition, not that it would have affected education or would Crowley have bothered either way.

Due to an upcoming track competition between the two schools, the club had been running on longer than usual.

They had been given their length to run, and all Vargas had to do was make sure they don’t die and occasionally bite their ankles if they slow down. Hell yeah he loved his job.

As he blew his whistle those who were currently running set off and others with stop watches pressed the button, recording others times. All was good and all he had to do was shout at them till they all finished.

Until he watched someone trip and fall face first into the ground in the corner of his eye. Fuck.

He turned to the direction of the student, finding him sprawled across the floor. “You alright kid..?” Sappy shit wasn’t his thing but he did need to care for his students.

The student lifted his head from the ground, the spade drawn beside his eye smudged lightly and the odd grass blade stuck to his face. His face was scrunched up as if he was about to start crying before he collected himself and sat up, wiping off his face.

Vargas watched as he looked himself over. Blood dribbled from a graze on his knee which he seemed to ignore, cleaning it up with his hand.

“Uh.. yes sir, I’m fine, thank you.” The student mumbled as he quickly looked himself over double checking for any more injuries, and moved to sit beside the track. The kid just said he was fine, why is he sitting out? He had perfectly good work to do.

“Oi, you just said you’re fine, why are you sitting out?”

The student stammered for a bit, probably coming up with some answer, maybe he was a little slow and that’s why he was thinking for so long. Eh, not his problem, plus he was taking too long.

“I can’t let you sit out for nothing. That knee does look rather nasty. You said you were good but I beg to differ, plus a fine person wouldn’t need to sit out. I’ll tell you what though you can take a break, if you just tell me that it hurts.”

Apart from the sound of other students still running there was a silence around them. The student momentarily looked conflicted, then stared up at Vargas, nodding lightly.

“.. it does kind of hurt.”

Vargas grinned, smacking his onto the students back as he guided him to sit further out from the area where the rest of the class was still racing.

“Attaboy! You can sit out here for a bit or go to the nurse and get a plaster. I could not care less either way.”

Notes:

Thank you for reading!! I had the thought for it to be long at the start but the way it is structured made it soo difficult. Uhhh zonk zonk zonk have a good half term or whatever
