Work Text:
It was a sparkling night in Smiling valley.
Millions of stars twinkled all across the sky like tiny diamonds as a small blue elephant stood on the tallest hill in the valley with his lover, the yellow chicken.
He had invited him here to go stargazing, and to do something very special.
As the stars glowed above the couple, he knew that the moment was right.
“Hey, Kickin?”
He says, getting his boyfriend’s attention.
“Yeah?”
Kickin says, looking over.
Bubba takes a deep breath.
“There’s…”
He was nervous.
“Something I wanna ask you.”
Kickin tilts his head.
“Okay, sure.” He says. “What is it?”
Bubba takes a few breaths.
“Well… you and I have been dating for over a year now… and…”
He turns to face him completely.
“Think it’s time that we…”
He smiles, slowly taking out a small, star-shaped box.
“Made things official.”
Kickin gasps as he realizes what was happening, covering his mouth.
“Kickin…”
Bubba says as he kneels down, opening the box.
The ring had a golden band, and a bright blue aquamarine shaped like a star.
“Will you marry me…?”
Kickin tears up, nodding.
“Of course!”
He says, taking the ring and putting it on one of his feather-fingers.
When Bubba stands up, Kickin tries to kiss him but is interrupted by Bubba’s trunk being in the way.
“You’d think by now i’d learn to move it first-“
Bubba says as he does so while Kickin giggles.
“It’s okay, Bubs.”
He says, hugging him gently.
“I’ll always love you.”
Bubba smiles, kissing his head.
“I’ll always love you too…”
The two embrace for a few moments.
“Isn’t this nice, love?”
Bubba says.
Kickin nods.
“Yeah… this night has been blissful.”
Bubba hums, nodding.
“Indeed.”
He says.
“Nothing big or extravagant, just small, wholesome moments like this.”
He says. “It’s enchanting.”
Then, Kickin goes cold.
“Wait… you DIDN’T want anything extravagant?”
He asks, nervous.
Bubba gets confused.
“Uh… no?”
He says. “Not really…?”
Kickin gently takes his arm, starting to pull away.
“W-well then, maybe we should leave!”
Bubba gets suspicious.
“Why…?”
Kickin sweats.
“Uhhh… no reason!”
He says with a nervous smile.
Bubba stands still.
“Kickin… what did you do?”
He says, looking like a parent who was trying to make you confess you got a D on your last history test.
“Nothing! N-nothing!”
Kickin says, panicking as he tries to pull Bubba away.
“I-I just think we should-”
Suddenly, fireworks started from over the next hill, rockets shooting up from all angles, one after the other.
When they all exploded, in blue and yellow letters, they spelt a simple message.
“BUBBA, WILL YOU MARRY ME?”
The letters hung in the sky for a while, before fading into stars.
After the fireworks were over, they were both silent, staring up at the sky, aghast.
Then, after a few minutes, Kickin slowly pulls out his yellow topaz bracelet.
(Since Bubba doesn’t have fingers.)
“Sorry.”
He says with a guilty smile.
Bubba sighs, smiling softly and taking the bracelet.
“Oh Kickin…”
He says, putting it on. “What am I gonna do with you?”
Kickin giggles a bit.
“Marry me, hopefully.”
Bubba laughs, moving his trunk before pulling his now fiancee close to finally kiss him.
