“Well, are you going to tell me what you did or should I pull out the crystal ball?”

“I think I killed someone?”

“You what?!”

“Shhhh! do you want the neighbours to wake up?”

or

tim and jason bond over murder.

Notes:

Been experimenting with writing styles and I wanted to challenge myself with writing something dialogue-only. This was the result. Hope it's a fun read!

Work Text:

“So, there’s something you need to know.”

“…oh God, what did you do now?”

“Hey, what makes you think I did something?”

“For starters, that look on your face doesn’t bode well—"

“‘Bode well’? Who the heck says—"

“—and the timing cannot be more suspicious.”

“…”

“Still going to pretend you didn’t do anything wrong?”

“…I may, sort of, see your point.”

“I’m glad you do.”

“...”

“Well, are you going to tell me what you did or should I pull out the crystal ball?”

“I think I killed someone?”

“You what?!”

“Shhhh! Do you want the neighbours to wake up?”

“Did you just say you killed someone, Timmy?”

“No, I said I think I killed someone,”

“That’s not any better, you moron! Did you or did you not?”

“Well, I didn’t exactly stick around to find out, Hamlet!”

“Oh my God, can you be serious for one minute? How bad are we talking?”

“Pretty sure there was a roof involved.”

“…why did you push someone off the roof, Tim?”

“Hey, it was instinct, okay? He tried to kill me first!”

“Ah, now you’re making sense, buddy.”

“Shut up, Jason.”

“Hey, you came to me for help. Should’ve just swung by Goldie’s instead.”

“…he’s not here tonight.”

“Oh, I see how it is. I’m just the replacement brother, huh?”

“Oh my—just. Tell me what to do!”

“The guy certainly deserved it for trying to kill you so don’t even feel guilty about it—“

“I wasn’t—“

“—and I won’t tell Big Bird that this happened. He’ll just freak out."

“…that’s oddly nice of you. What do you want?”

“Can’t I be kind to my brother out of the goodness of my heart?”

“Right, sure. Just tell me what you want.”

“…are my old books still at the manor?”

“That’s what you want? You can just swing by to read, you know.”

“Yeah, no, I can’t. B and I will fight and then Goldie will kill me and then go crying somewhere while the Demon Brat glares at me—“

“Please, if Dick killed anyone first, it would be Bruce—“

“—Nah, Bruce is number one on my hit list—“

“—Don’t even joke about that, Jason,”

“—Anyway, relax, our old man isn’t going anywhere. My bloodlust is at bay for now.”

“We should all be so glad.”

“Can the sarcasm if you want to sleep here, bird brain.”

“Fine, I'll smuggle your books for you. Can I go now?”

“…You’re not hurt, are you?”

“Oh my God, I’m fine, mom.”

“Sheesh, sorry for caring. Now leave. You know where the guest room is.”

“What are you going to do?”

“Make sure the guy you pushed is not actually dead.”

“…Thanks, Jason.”

“I’d say anytime but I wouldn’t mean it so—ow! this is expensive!”

“Serves you right.”

“Yeah, yeah. Good night, bird brain.”

“…Good night, Jason.”

(The man isn't actually dead and despite wanting to make him so, Jason ties him up and drops him off at the nearest precinct, not without making it very clear about the consequences of another attempt at taking out Timothy Drake.)

(Dick finds out about the incident 2 days later and wrangles Jason and Tim into a movie night that is spent cuddling (begrudgingly on Jason's part and eagerly on Tim's part.)
