Stuck Together

Summary:

While on a team mission, Nya gets stuck in a cave with a certain lovesick amnesiac and they have to stay the night until their teammates figure out how to get them out of there. How will Nya handle being stuck alone with her yang who is definitely, totally not in love with her?

Notes:

Work Text:

“Ugh! I can’t believe I’m stuck with you!” She exclaimed, glaring at the (past?) love of her life.

“I’m not happy about it either, lady.” He said, glaring right back at her.

Unfortunately, Nya and Jay, or Rogue as he liked to call himself, were stuck together, in a cave, all alone. It had happened on a team mission, which Jay had tagged along for. Everyone had been exploring a cave, when Frak had used his quake powers, and inadvertently caused a cave in, separating Jay and Nya from the rest of the group. Since they didn’t want to risk injury, the other ninja had shouted to them to keep exploring the cave and try to find a way out. Hence the reason they were stuck together (do you see was i did there? I’m so clever hehe).

“We’ve been walking forever, you’d think something would have changed by now.” Jay complained, holding his fist of lighting in front of him. Then, he stopped, voice laced with sleepiness as he spoke. “Whew, I’m getting kinda tired, wanna sit down for a sec?”

“Sure.” Nya could understand why he needed rest. Conjuring even a small amount of lighting for hours would’ve drained her aswell. She plopped down on the stone floor and he followed suit.

“Normally I would have supplies, but I wasn’t expecting to get stuck in a cave with you.” He commented.

“Oh, you’re normally prepared to get stuck in a cave with a beautiful woman who you claim to hate?” She didn’t know why she said that, maybe she was delirious from dehydration, or maybe it was just being that so close, and alone with her husband for so long meant that she couldn’t resist a flirtatious comment here or there.

“Ew. No, I meant I’m not usually prepared to be with someone else.” He said very quickly, a little too quickly. She wasn’t sure, it was hard to see in the cave, because of the very, very faint sunlight up ahead, but she thought she was a tint of pink on his cheeks.

“Well, let’s at least get some sleep.” He nodded as she spoke, eyes drooping already.

They both layed down, a few feet apart. She longed to close the distance, to be held by her Yang, to hold him aswell, but she knew he’d shoot the suggestion down immediately. Nya sighed, staring at him.

His eyes blinked open, meeting hers, “Why are you staring at me? It’s wierd.” He questioned, eyebrows raised and scrunched together.

“Can’t I just admire you for a few seconds?” She asked quietly. “You’re very pretty, you know.”

“Whatever.” He huffed, rolling over quickly. The master of water stared at his back for a few moments. Then he started shivering.

“Are you cold?”

“N-n-no.” He stuttered, his voice shaking as he shivered.

“You sure about that?” She questioned, shifting slightly closer to him, a smile on her lips.

“Mhm. W-warm as c-can be.” Jay replied, shaking even more.

Then, bravely (at least she thought it was) she moved close to him, and, feeling him stiffen slightly as she did so, Nya put a hand on his shoulder. “I can feel a draft in this cave, let’s conserve warmth.”

He rolled over to face her, eyes widening and freckled cheeks turning red as he realized their faces were only an inch apart. “What’re playing at?” He asked, voice suspicious.

“It’s cold in here, we have no blankets, we’re the only sources of heat, let’s conserve our warmth.” She stated simply.

Without waiting for a response, she wrapped her arms around his torso. Jay tensed even more, gasping as her felt her body against his. She glanced up at him, his whole face now covered in a furious deep red blush, “Relax, Sparky, you’re never going to be able sleep if you’re that rigid.”

“I…uhhh…you…me…too…close.” He sputtered, obviously very flustered.

“C’mon, I’m cold too.” The water elemental said, pulling one of his arms over her back.

As if he couldn’t stop himself, Jay snaked the other arm under her side, resting both of his hands on the small of her back. She nuzzled her head into his chest, sighing at the familiarity. Hesitantly, he lowered his head onto the ground, Nya’s dark, silky hair tickling his nose.

Soon, the lightning master was snoring gently, lulled to sleep by Nya’s soft breathing. While he was asleep, and not able to protest. She entangled her legs with his, getting comfortable. Not long after, she was snoring too. They were both sleeping peacefully wrapping in each other’s warmth.

(I always love to think of the aftermath of scenes like this, so I just couldn’t leave it out >:))

A whistle, then someone saying, “Wow she really knows how to get through to him.”

“Indeed she does.” Replied a robotic voice.

“Ehhh?” Jay murmured, slowly blinking his eyes open. Suddenly, he felt something in his arms, something warm. The same something had her head nestled in his chest, and also had her legs wrapped around his. Her. Nya. “Oh shit.” He also registered two figures standing above them in bright sunlight, on white and blue, one red. Red, her brother. “Fuck.”

Jay hurriedly tried to jump out of Nya’s arms as she was stirring, but his legs caught in hers as he attempted to stand, and he fell. Directly on top of her. “Shit. Shit. Shit.” He said, wide brown and blue eyes meeting tired, groggy, brown (with subtle sworls of blue) eyes.

“Mmm. Jay?” She sighed. Staring up into his flushed face. “Why are you on top of me?”

“Ack! It wasn’t on purpose, I tripped!” He explained quickly, standing up successfully this time.

“Wow, you guys are helpless.” Kai observed, standing and watching with Zane, both of them finding amusement in the pair struggle to orient their tired selves.

“Oh, hi Kai, hi Zane.” Nya said with a relieved smile and standing up. “When did you get here?”

“Just now.” Zane replied. And then, matter of factly, “Jay was snuggling you.”

“Is that so?” Nya remarked, turning to her yang who quickly covered his now fully red face with his hands, shaking his head.

“I most certainly was not!” Then, uncovering his face and pointing at her, he said accusatorily, “She started it anyways.”

“True, but you didn’t stop me.”

“I couldn’t you were to…” He trailed off, staring at her.

“Irresistible? Charming? Gorgeous?” Nya offered.

“Stubborn.” He finished with a grumpy look, face still covered in blush.

“All right, I’m happy for you and all, but I need to mentally prepare myself for this torture again. I’ve had five years of break, let me adjust.” Kai said, pointing to the two of them as he said this.

“Happy for us? What does is that supposed to mean?” Jay shouted.

“Y’know, you’re together again, trust me, I’ve dealt with this three times already, I can see the signs.” Kai explained bluntly.

“Three times! What were we like before the merge?” Jay asked Nya quizzically, eyebrows scrunched.

“Well, there was a lot of drama with Cole and—Wait! You just acknowledged that we were together before the merge!” Nya exclaimed triumphantly.

“No I didn’t! You’re delusional!” Jay yelled quickly.

Zane made a sound like a rewinding tape then played an audio clip. “‘What were we like before the merge?’ Those were your exact words.” He stated.

“I—thats not—that’s unfair!” Jay sputtered.

“Come on, Blue Boy, I’m gonna give you a tour of the monestary today.” Nya said, snaking her arm around his and pulling him out of the cave, which Zane and Kai had made an entrance into. “We’re going home.”
