Work Text:
Really, General?
“Carter.” Sam Carter answers the phone as precisely as she runs the SGC.
“Hey.”
The voice is extremely comforting and irritating at the same time.
“Yes, dear?” She can’t help but call him that.
“Carter, you said you’d be home…three hours ago.” He sounds annoyed. And she can tell when he is looking at his watch.
“I know, I am sorry. I will make it up to you.” She says it low and only to him. She has the receiver of the phone resting on her shoulder and her ear to the receiver. Her fingers glide over her keyboard trying to finish the last of her reports to Homeworld Command.
“How?” His voice somehow gets huskier. Damn him.
“Jack.” She uses her best stern voice, knowing it probably will have no effect on him.
“No, really? How?” That damned voice.
“Jack, please let me finish what I need to do, and I will be on my way home. I promise, but I just can’t leave a fully operational base to just…” There is a knock on her door.
“Jack, I need to go...” She says as he enters the door.
“Jack.” She looks over at the receiver and shakes her head at it and places it down.
“Come on, I have the truck all packed and the house is all locked up with no place to go. The wilds of Minnesota are calling ‘Carter’.” His eyes light up at the end of his statement.
“Has she left yet?” Comes from behind Jack, it is Daniel.
“Damn it.” Jack mutters out.
“Sam? Oh, hey Jack. Sam, good you haven’t left yet!” Daniel comes in clearly winded.
“No, no I haven’t, Daniel. I am afraid to ask this but what is up?” She still is typing away.
“Don’t ask that.” Jack says behind her. Getting Daniel to turn and look at him, then his attention goes back to the question at hand.
“Sam…”
“Daniel, if this question is going to give me any pause to delay my vacation any more than it has, know it will be taken out of your budget.” Sam stops his question.
Daniel is taken back. And gives her a strange look, then it dawns on him why Jack is standing behind him.
“You know, I think my question, as perplexing as it is, can wait until you return…”
“Two weeks from now.” Sam shuts down her laptop and closes it, stands and joins the two men on the other side of her desk.
“Two weeks!” Daniel corrects himself and is refined to know to wait until she does, in fact return. “It seems not long enough for all the things you do around here.” Daniel smiles at her and places a kiss on her cheek.
“Well thank you Daniel. And I will see you in two weeks.” By this time Sam and Jack had walked to the awaiting elevator and her approaching freedom. The doors open and they step in.
“Enjoy.” Daniel waves at them.
“We will.” Jack says just as the doors close. Sam rolls her eyes. “I brought you a change of clothes.” He holds up a bag.
“I figured; I held us back three hours.” She takes the bag from him.
“Now, tell me. How are you going to make it up to me?” Jack whisper asks. Sam turns and faces away from the camera.
“You want to know how I am going to pay you back.” She asks for confirmation. He gives her that grin.
“I am going to let you drive, the whole way.” Sam tells him just as the doors open, and she kisses him quickly on the lips. “And I am going to change in the truck.” She waggles her eyes at him and walks towards the truck.
“Yes.” He mutters under his breath. He jogs to catch up with her.
“Have I told you how much I love you?” He grabs her closest hand.
“Always.” She grips it back tighter.
