Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes?

Summary:

The plan was a simple. Impulse would stand in an obsidian box, use his ability to swap with Gem and then the entire team would wail on her. In practice, things turned out to be not as easy as they'd hoped.

Notes:

This has been sitting in my drafts since Wild Life, so I figured I should finally do something with it.

Chapter Text

The plan was a simple. Impulse would stand in an obsidian box, use his ability to swap with Gem and then the entire team would wail on her. In practice, things turned out to be not as easy as they'd hoped.

BigB was hoping to be the one to land the killing blow, being both red and historically not having many kills to his name. He was even doing a decent amount of damage to her. Then, she pulled out the water and attempted to swim out of their carefully laid trap. It shouldn’t have mattered, nothing should've come of it, since BigB could still hit her with his sword.... But for a moment the only thing he could see was her fiery red hair-

Suddenly he was back at Ren's ruined tower, chasing after Cleo with a desperation he hadn’t thought himself possible of. He brought his sword down upon them again and again and again and again, ingnoring her panicked denials-

Until finally, Cleo's resistance came to a sudden stop, their corpse falling into the river with a splash that was simultaneously too loud and nowhere near loud enough for the weight of the betrayal that had just occurred, the fiery red of her hair mixing in with the liquid crimson oozing from the wounds he'd inflicted on them-

Before he'd realized what happened, his sword cut swiftly through the area above Gem, missing her completely and giving his target ample time to escape. For a moment, he stood frozen place, covered in cold sweat and barely able to catch his breath, watching Gem flee. Belatedly, he realized he should chase her and began to follow-

From somewhere behind or beside him - he wasn't entirely sure - Scott let out a frustrated snarl. Then he rushed past BigB, catching up to Gem in no time, raised his sword and brought it down on her.

In an instant, Gem crumpled to the ground, a pool of blood slowly growing under her body before it poofed out of existence.

BigB found himself unable to move again but this time he wasn't the only one. Both Martyn and Ren also stood frozen in shock, staring in disbelief at Scott.

For his part, Scott continued to stare at the spot where Gem's body used to be, trying to catch his breath. His sword, now useless without a target to strike down, hung so loosely in his hand that its tip almost brushed the ground.

Joel's disgruntled cry carried from across the lake as he realized what had happened to a member of his Family.

Scott turned to the group with a bright smile, marred only by the blood of his victim splattered across his face.

"Team kill." he proclaimed cheekily.

Notes:

The second chapter will focus on Scott's side.
