Work Text:
“The problem is,” Ayda said, “now that Station Security trusts SecUnit, they want it to teach self-defence classes to people from Preservation who are heading into the CR.”
Ratthi laughed. Gurathin rolled his eyes. Pin-Lee rubbed her temples.
That is a terrible idea, SecUnit said to all of them over the feed, and the only reason Ayda didn’t jump was because she was now alarmingly used to it always listening in.
“Its body doesn’t work the same as human bodies,” Pin-Lee pointed out. “Most humans couldn’t do half the things it does in a fight.”
Half is generous, SecUnit said. And besides, I couldn’t teach normal Preservation citizens enough for them to hold their own against SecUnits, or even against human security professionals.
“Also its, uh, disposition is not particularly inclined to teaching humans it doesn’t know,” Gurathin said delicately.
SecUnit made a wordless sound of disgust over the feed that managed to communicate both its agreement with his assessment and its offence at Gurathin calling it an asshole.
“Does anyone have a better idea?” Ayda asked. “It would be nice to offer an alternative. I think this is meant to be a peace offering.”
“Maybe it could teach other things?” Ratthi said. “Like it’s been teaching us things here and there. General things about security.”
“I agree with Gurathin that it probably wouldn’t enjoy teaching classes, though,” Pin-Lee said.
SecUnit said, I guess I could write up some guidelines, protocols, whatever. As long as I don’t have to interact with students.
“That would be great,” Ayda said, relieved. “Ratthi, do you have time to help it out? Might be useful to have a Preservation perspective too.”
“Sure!”
Maybe then he’ll finally learn something about security, SecUnit said privately, and Ayda had to work hard to keep a straight face.
