You've Received a Paper Crane!

Summary:

A sneak-peak into the life of the Guiyun Sect members through their paper crane exchanges.

Notes:

This was just an idea I had for a small fandom! This is my first fanfic so please grant me some grace, constructive criticism is appreciated.

Fic will be gen but can be open for interpretation

This does take some text from the game that I expand on - I do not own Immortal Life nor am I an expert in xianxia.

I am also actively playing the game for the first time and have not gotten very far, so update times may vary!

Chapter Text

Wei Hong: You should have learned how to use paper cranes by now. So, respond to me.

… Shixiong? Did you forget?

Are you ignoring me?

Piece of cake. It’s a very simple spell.

Good, you’ve learned it. What took you so long?

Was busy with the field. This shixiong is sorry for making you wait.

It’s fine. Let’s keep in touch!

Wei Hong: Thank you for building the workshop! Now I can design and make things. By the way, what do you think of the small bamboo stool I gave you last time?

It’s not made yet. Isn’t it just an ordinary bamboo stool?

Yes. We both think we shouldn’t sit on ordinary stools.

What? How did you come to this conclusion?

Don’t worry. I get it! It will meet up to your expectations. I will make an unprecedented and extraordinary chair.

It’s a chair. How can it be unprecedented and extraordinary?

Don’t you have faith in my skills? Prepare to be amazed! Everyone will want my new chair by the time I’m done with it.

Very well. I look forward to seeing your new creation.

Li Mengqing: You won’t believe it. I found a book under a collapsed house and it turned out to be a secret script for strength cultivation!

That’s wonderful! Are you going to study it?

Obviously! I must be a destined heroine to have found it. You can take a look too!

Thank you. The information will certainly be valuable as we cultivate more. You should share this with the others as well.

Aww really? I wanted to be the cool protagonist encountering a bonus on her adventure! We could be called The Guiyun Twins in the future if we keep it between us - destined heroines working together!

It wouldn’t be good to keep things from everyone else. Everyone deserves a fair chance. What kind of protagonist would you be if you didn’t help your peers?

You’re right. I’ll be sure to let everyone else know what I found so we can all share it.

Thank you, shijie.

You’re welcome.

Ji Yaohua: We couldn’t have started rebuilding the Main Hall without the money, goods, and materials you gathered for us. Thank you so much.

I was just doing my part. Everyone was a great help.

But of course. I have hired some people to help You build it. If the repair of the facilities is completed quickly, that would be ideal, but you will have to provide more resources.

That is no trouble. I have plenty to spare now that the farmland has been cleared. Whatever you need, let me know.

Very well. Since the construction materials are guaranteed, I’ll go discuss the construction plans with You and see if we missed anything. If you run into any trouble, just let us know.

Of course.

Wei Hong: The wood you brought is being processed. I’ll make some things for the sect soon, but there’s still a lot left. Should I make some furniture or facilities, or just whatever I want?

Make whatever you want. There will be time to devote your efforts towards the sect. For now, focus on making something for YOU.

Great! Thank you. With my great experience and knowledge, and your support, I’m sure I can design furniture of greater power and better transformation.

Power and transformation? Is it a piece of furniture you want to make?

Don’t worry, you’ve inspired me! I’ve suddenly thought of a new design and it will definitely exceed your expectations. Prepare to be surprised! Haha!

Inspiration? No, that’s not my fault! Don’t pull me into your shenanigans!

Shenanigans? I am creating designs of the future! Plus, you’ve already provided me with the wood. There is no escape!

I have an alibi: I gave you the wood, but you did not say what for. I am simply doing what a good shixiong should do!

Anyways, you should trust me more! I would never make anything that would be detrimental to the Guiyun Sect. It’ll all work out!

It may not be detrimental to the Guiyun Sect, but what about everyone else?

… Wei Hong?

Chen Yuanzhou: I often think about the fact that it seems like fish are swimming freely in the water, but they can only go where the river flows. Don’t you think we’re the same as them?

I don’t think so. Don’t we cultivate to change our fate?

Change our fate… but is that something we’re supposed to change?

I believe your fate is what you make of it. You can view it as being changed, or that the actions you take are what your fate was all along. Is cultivation changing one’s fate or following your destined path?

You have thought much on this. I suppose I prefer to view it as following my destined path.

Spoken like a true fish.

Haha. Not so bad a thing to be.

Yang Ziqin: Now that the Guiyun Sect’s barrier has broken, monsters are becoming more active closer to town. Please be careful.

What do you need from me? Where can I be of most use?

Thank you for your offer. Continue your efforts in Misty Valley, and keep an eye on that cave. Please be assured I am patrolling the valley and dealing with them as they appear.

Very well. If you have need for me, send for me. I will come.

Mu Xia: Thank you again for your help in the kitchen. Our guests sang your praises.

It was a pleasure to help. I have always enjoyed cooking.

Really? Perhaps if you grow tired of cultivating you could come work for Matron Ye. Where did you study?

I have not studied. I am self-taught.

Self-taught??? You must be very talented, then.

It took a lot of time. Time, practice, and failure. I was not always as skilled, and my family certainly did not appreciate tasting my failed attempts at a simple meal. But one must make mistakes to grow, and grow I did.

I see. Well, I congratulate you on your success. Please feel free to help again in the future, you will be compensated for your time.

It would be an honor.
