Shopping for Christmas with Blaine is some of Sebastian’s favourite things in the world to do. Blaine carries this enthusiasm with him, like a child receiving his first christmas gift from Santa and that is one of the reasons why he loves his boyfriend that much. He has this light in him that makes everything somehow much better than they actually are.
The truth is that he has never been a holiday enthusiast, just like Valentine’s day or Thanksgiving for him all of them are only an excuse to buy useless stuff and try to spend enough time with your family to pretend that you are the perfect american dream.
But when his first love reappeared in his life a few years ago, he changed everything for him just like in high school. Since the first moment he put his eyes on the warbler, he knew that nothing was gonna be the same for him and it wasn’t. Back then he was a player and he didn’t believe in feelings, however it was inevitable for him to fall in love with that “ sex on stick and sing like a dream” guy. And after all his failed attempts to have him, he thought that love wasn’t for him until the same charming man found him in the middle of a mall in Los Angeles. Proving him wrong once again and showing him what love looks like.
Since then Sebastian has made a lot of U-turn about his views on trivial things like holidays and now thanks to Blaine’s joy they are some of his favourite times of the year. Holidays with Blaine are warmer and more enjoyable than all that Sebastian was forced to assist to please his father. His boyfriend is the most authentic person he has met and everything about him is that way too. When their paths crossed again, Blaine was living with Cooper. And yeah, he is overwhelming but he carries a similar brightness like his brother so when he started to spend time with both of them, despite all their fights he started to understand what a real family is. Sometimes even their mother joined in with all her pure love and adoration for her children and along the way for him as well.
Sebastian got used to it so fast, that now he can’t see life in any other way. Blaine Anderson transformed his sight into one more beautiful and happier. And this year is the most special because they took the next step in their relationship: after being boyfriends for three years they decided to move in together. It wasn’t always easy, there were some fights and tears but they made it work. Both of them had scars from other relationships or the lack of them. Both of them carried a lot of insecurities about themselves as individuals but it didn’t take so much time to adjust. Their schedule has been a conflict for a bit, their timing are different when you are a lawyer and your boyfriend a music producer. Sometimes they are in sync but there are other times when both schedules make them not see each other in the way they want to. There have been some lonely nights for Sebastian, where he misses Blaine a lot but having a boyfriend working with big names of the music industry like Harry Styles and Rosalia is something that the lawyer is so proud of ,even when it’s hard. But always after nights of being separated, Blaine arranged days free to spend all the time that he can with the lawyer.
This Christmas is special because it will be the first one celebrated in their home. It sounds so silly and cute at the same time, but it is what it is. Blaine, their bedroom full of pictures of them, their kitchen where they spoil each other with their favourite meals and desserts and their living-room where specially in times like this, they spend long nights cuddling in the sofa while they watch some Hallmark Christmas movies.
And for this occasion they have to buy a lot of food because all their warbler’s friends will come to visit them as a celebration for their new step. So there he is, with his over enthusiastic boyfriend from shop to shop trying to find a personalized present for everyone.
The first place they got in was a home decoration shop, Jeff and Nick wanted to move out because they are planning to adopt a child soon so Blaine wants to buy them something for the new room that they have been preparing for months. This place is boring to Sebastian, he is wishing to get Thad’s gift so they can go to the Playstation store and buy some stuff there…however what he doesn’t expect was finding Blaine talking to a tall, bald guy in an awkward position…
“So, who do we have here? Hi! My name is Sebastian Smythe and you are?” The lawyer said interrupting their conversation
“Oh ! Bas, this is…is Eli and Eli he is my boyfriend” Blaine stuttered almost as he was embarrassed, but it doesn’t make sense. His boyfriend has always been proud of their relationship…at least...and Sebastian connected the dots and he couldn’t do anything but laugh…
“Your boyfriend?, the same one from back then when we…” the man respond trying to do some mimics to Blaine
“ No buddy, I am not the same boyfriend. Believe me if Blaine would have been with me back then there is no way he ended up having sex with someone as ugly as you and that’s saying something when you had the bar as low as he had with Hummel” and with that the guy left. Sebastian laughs almost immediately and his boyfriend only stares at him blushed but a bit annoyed.
“What? Of course I wouldn’t shut up when he was seducing you when he looks like that…I love you B, but sometimes you don’t know how to say no specially in awkward situation like this one”
“ It wasn’t like that but yeah, it wasn’t a chill situation. God! In all those places I could see him, LA wasn’t in my mind, even less while I was with you. This is so embarrassing ” Blaine said to him, hiding his face under his hand
“ Don’t worry love. Like I said you had too low your bar back then so It was believable that you ended with some bald man”
“ Oh, and you set the bar high now?” and his boyfriend get so close touching his waist and getting in some of his fingers…he needs to go home now
“ B, don’t defy me. You know that I have no filters and if you want to we can go to the restroom right now” Sebastian smirked
"Maybe later” his boyfriend smirked back.
They don’t resist for a long time so they end up doing it in the parking lot and thank god for the tinted windows.
The next day the supermarket was on their to do list. Blaine always has everything on lists and in order of priority. It is funny to him how messy he knows Blaine is when it comes to his impromptu inspiration but when it is about their home, his boyfriend is a master in organization. Today they have to buy all the errands for the dinner with the warblers but also for their own one. A romantic dinner and a cozy breakfast are their routine.
For his intimate one they have planned an Italian dinner with a meat lasagna as main dish and tiramisu as dessert. A red wine and a cheese plate as an appetizer. And for the warblers, the question is what Blaine wouldn’t cook for them? Sebastian has tried all that he can to calm him down. They are their friends,there is no need for so much etiquette. Besides, all of them will bring food too. But here they are, buying half of the supermarket for a full show choir.
Blaine has been going here and there but suddenly he saw his boyfriend stop at a place. He can see how he is picking one bag and another one and comparing both of them. He doesn’t understand why. And then he saw a big sign: cookies area. The supermarket has a deal with some decoration brands so there is a whole area which contains all what someone can imagine to decorate cookies: glaze, chocolate chips with all the colours possible, different cookie cutters. Of course, his boyfriend would be fascinated by it. Blaine loves making Christmas cookies and Sebastian loves waking up with them for breakfast. But his favourite part is when they decorated them together.
He felt a knock on his shopping cart. A big guy with brown hair and brown eyes crashed into him with his cart.
“ Sorry, I got distracted. It’s just…” And Sebastian saw the guy looked at Blaine’s direction
“ The little one is taken…”
“Oh, you think that I am talking about your boyfriend. It’s cute but I like blondies. But I guess they have something in common: look their fascination for that cookies stuff”
And then he gets what the guy was talking about. Blaine was so into a conversation with a blonde guy almost as big as the one he was talking to. Both of them seemed too excited about the cookies, well maybe his boyfriend even more but he could see their smiles and excitement.
“ I guess you are right. So he is your boyfriend then? He is wearing a uniform, are both of you policemen or something like that?”
“ Yes, Evan .He is a firefighter and I am an emergency pilot. My name is Tommy”
“ I am Sebastian.Well, our jobs are easier compared to yours. I am a lawyer and Blaine is a music producer. How do you do it? I couldn’t live with the fear of losing my boyfriend everyday in a job like that. Don’t get me wrong, it is really admirable what both of you do but I would be scared for him on a daily basis.Losing him is my biggest fear. ”
“ Your jobs are..interesting. We met through work so there is not much I can say, just support him, well we support each other but I get it, I think both of us have the same fear but we get used to it. It is our job after all. But I get where you are coming from, that’s what happens when you care so much about someone…” And Tommy just stares with a soft look at the guy, Evan, with so much love in his eyes and yes, he can relate to it because at the same time he knows that he was looking at Blaine in the same way.
At that moment, Blaine and Evan walk to where they were with a bunch of things in their hands.They are two excited children inside adult bodies.
“I guess they met each other before we can introduce them” Evan told Blaine sharing a knowing grin
“ It’s not hard to do it if both of our boyfriends are obsessed with decoration cookies and leave us behind” Tommy responded to him
“ Don’t be a baby, I bought a basketball ball cuter for you. I am Buck” Evan said , kissing him on the cheek.
“ Buck? I thought that your name is Evan. Nice to meet you! I am Sebastian”
“ Yeah, Evan is just for him” he said smirking at his boyfriend and Tommy just smiled at him.
He gets it, after all only Blaine called Sebastian “Bas”...it’s something so theirs that feels weird when another person calls him like that.
“Oh! You two are so sweet.We have to go home but pleased to meet both of you, Happy Holidays!Maybe one day we can double date” Blaine said delighted
“ The pleasure was ours. And Sebastian, there is no need to be scared. Happy Holidays to you too!” Tommy said smirking at him and going to the checkout
“ What was it about?”
“ Nothing B, what is next on the list?”
“ We are done here. Maybe we could go to your favourite diner to have lunch?”
“ Leave all of this at home and then yes. I love you B”
“ Love you too Bas. Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I am just happy to have you”
“Same here. Let’s go”
Sebastian was hot but so hot, he was sweating. He could feel water on his skin. He could smell something burning up, he could smell like burnt wood. It didn’t make sense. He was at home, he knew that everything was ok when he went to bed with his boyfriend. “Oh! No! B! Where is he? Suddenly he woke up, Blaine wasn’t in their bed and what he was dreaming was real. Their house was burning up. He ran, trying to avoid the flames. Everything in his house was destroyed. All their photos, all his memories with Blaine. He went to the kitchen but his boyfriend wasn’t there. Desperately he went to the living room. Blaine wasn’t there either. Suddenly a big arm catched him from the back. In a second he was outside of the house and he started to scream for Blaine. He could see Buck there trying to stop him from getting in. He needed Blaine next to him. He won’t be ok until Blaine is with him. He couldn’t stop screaming: Blaine! Blaine! God, Blaine! Where are you?!
“Bas, Bas! It 's ok love. It was a nightmare. I am here, I am ok. We are ok”
“B, B! Oh god! Is it you, for real?” Sebastian said holding his boyfriend like his life depends on him
“ Yes, baby. I am here.What happened? What were you dreaming?” Blaine was concerned about him. It’s weird seeing his boyfriend like this. Usually it’s him having nightmares about Sadie Hawkins.
“ There was a fire here…And … I couldn’t find you… and the guy from the supermarket… rescued me but… not you…B I don’t want to lose you…I can’t lose you” Sebastian could barely breathe, his breathing was agitating, his phrases were short and his words were rushing. He was almost having a panic attack.
“ Bas, Bas look at me. I am right here, you are right here next to me. I am ok, you're ok. We are ok. You will never gonna lose me” Blaine answered him, kissing him trying to calm him down. He embraced his boyfriend in a hug. He put his head in his chest, cleaning up his tears. They stayed for a while until Sebastian went back to sleep again.
Sleeping in Blaine's arms gives him peace. He feels safe in his boyfriend’s body. It’s funny because Blaine is shorter than him but right now he is feeling so little. He is not afraid of showing vulnerability to his boyfriend, it's just that the thought and the feeling of losing him even now, three hours later torments him.
He remembers that Tommy said to him that nothing bad was gonna happen to them, however it didn’t stop him from having awful thoughts about it. He tried to convince himself that it was just a dream but the fear is too real. So he did the best that he can do at the moment: contemplate and admire his boyfriend. His little curls, his long eyelashes, his triangle eyebrows, his peaceful sleep, his soft skin. Sebastian never thought that someday Blaine would be in this position. He always seems unreachable, impossible to him but destiny brought them together when he didn’t expect and Sebastian is very grateful for that. Blaine always makes everything better, prettier and nicer. Like now, when only looking at him all his angsty thoughts finally disappear.
Then he started to hear a phone, someone is calling so insistent that probably something bad is happening. His boyfriend started to wake up slowly trying to answer it and stopping that damn ring.
“Ms…Ms Pillsbury?” Blaine said sleepy “Is everything ok? Something happened?”
“ No, sorry to wake you and Kurt up…I just don’t understand this mobile phone. I was trying to call Beiste and ended up calling you”
“ Ms Pillsbury sorry to hear that but actually you woke me and my boyfriend Sebastian up. Kurt and I broke up years ago” the warbler answered, annoyed.
“ Oh!, Oh! God,Blaine I am so embarrassed. I shouldn’t assume anything. Say hi to your boyfriend to me.I think I am gonna hang up, I don’t want to interrupt you guys anymore. Happy Holidays Blaine!” And with that the counseling woman finally leaves them alone.
“Everyone is Mckinley, is that annoying? I don’t understand how you survive your high school years with them”
“ Good morning to you too, love. You are exaggerating but I give you that right now she was more annoying than ever but I am happy that you are ok now. You really scared me this morning”
“So sorry B.Don’t worry. I am ok now”
“Are you sure?”
“ Let me prove it to you” Sebastian smirks, undressing his boyfriend while he was saying it.
After days, Christmas is finally here. The to-do list is done and Sebastian is just content knowing that today is one of his favourite moments of the year(besides Valentine’s day, his favourite holiday to spoil Blaine even more than he does on a daily basis).
Yesterday, they made all christmas cookies: they had multiple kinds of them, Blaine loves chocolate and Sebastian lemon ones so they made both flavours. There are a lot of forms: santa ones, christmas tree ones, snowman but Blaine this time bought one with their initials and somehow he linked them up so there are a few ones with S&B pattern. Without a doubt Sebastian’s favourite.
All the food for the dinner is ready and all the presents for their friends as well. Cooper paid a quick and inappropriate visit as always early this morning but luckily Blaine got rid of him. Not only did he show up without warning but he walked in on them because he had the audacity to get in their bedroom. Sebastian was red and Blaine well, he threw him a few clothes near to him just to leave them alone. After that they woke up. Today they are both wearing the pyjamas that Blaine sewed for them.This time he chooses a light blue reindeer fabric. He suited their bodies so well. And god knows that it took all that he could to not have sex with them as soon as he got dressed. His boyfriend has a beautiful and hot body but today it is even hotter than ever.
But here they are in front of the Christmas tree full of presents for all their loved ones. Obviously both of them have their present for each other separated. That’s one of the reasons because it became his favourite one, since their first christmas as boyfriends Blaine gave it to him so thoughtful and personalized presents. The truth is that one Sebastian was embarrassed because his boyfriend got him a photo album with all their moments together with a music playlist recorded in a CD so he could listen to it whenever he wanted. And he only bought him a music console for his work. Yes, something useful but not as personalized as Blaine did. However, since then Sebastian put a lot of effort into not doing the same. Every present for Blaine is as remarkable as him.
However this year is extra special and he is so nervous because today he is gonna propose. It sounds so cliche but Blaine made this holiday so about them that he wanted to be special so here he is in front of the tree waiting for Blaine to do it. It’s funny because Sebastian can be sharp and sassy with everyone but when it comes to his boyfriend he freezes. The former warbler has this power over him which makes him weak and strong, confident and vulnerable feeling fire and water at the same time.
He let Blaine give him his present. This time he prepared a beautiful couple trip to Paris for the two of them. His boyfriend knows how much he misses that city, the city of love for the rest of the world but a home for him. And there is nothing better than being in his home place with his favourite person in the universe. Now it’s his turn, he can't hide his fear, his nervousness but he is ready to be Anderson Smythe.
“Bas, are you ok?You are pale”
“ I am ok, B. It just well I don’t know how to begin with your present”
“ I told you that whatever you get me it’s ok”
“ B, when you got into my life I never thought that real love could exist for me. My parents never weren’t the best example of it but suddenly whenever I saw you a light in my eyes and my heart showed up and at first I didn’t understand why. It was late when I found out, in the exact moment when I screwed everything up and after that the last hope I had to be able to have you was dead. But then against all the possibilities we found each other again in this big city. Different but the same. And I fall in love all over again, I think I will never stop doing it. Blaine Anderson you are my favourite person in the world, you are that light in my life that I never thought I needed until I found you. You are the perfect partner, the one who brings me joy when my darkest thoughts show up, the one who made me my favourite meals when I am sick and I really hope that I can be the perfect partner for you. So Blaine Anderson, Will you marry me?”
“Oh, god, Bas” Blaine told him crying “ Of course, I will. I love you so much”
“ I love you too” And of course, Sebastian is sobbing as well. This is the best moment in his life, with his favourite person celebrating their favourite holiday.
