“Ven aquí, mi cariño.”
Shok.wav slid through the air of the penthouse before resting himself behind the couch Valentino had spread himself across. Valentino hadn’t sounded the same recently. No one had. Everything had been wrong since the deer had left home.
He didn’t miss the deer. The deer had smelled rotten and had agitated everyone. Shok.wav wished he had been able to bite it in half, but was also glad he didn’t have more of the taste of the decomposition. It was enough to get the aroma out of the back of his mouth. Not even diving back into the tank had helped. Only time had slowly removed the stench from the tower.
Valentino held up his plate and started tossing food from it. Shok.wav opened his mouth at first, until he saw how it had been a full plate. Daddy would be upset if Valentino hadn’t eaten anything.
So after the first few entered his mouth, Shok.wav closed his mouth. The next piece of meat bounced off his teeth and back onto Valentino. Valentino stared at the food on his lap before back up at Shok.wav.
“¿No tienes hambre?” Valentino frowned. “Me neither, I guess.”
Daddy would make mommy eat. But daddy was recovering in his room. Velvette wasn’t around. Unfortunate, because Shok.wav didn’t have small hands like they did. It would be harder for him to do this.
Winding more around the couch, Shok.wav shoved his nose against the plate and mashed it against Valentino’s front.
Valentino’s exclamation was too angry and rushed for Shok.wav to catch. He glared at the mess. Shok.wav stretched his tongue out and licked some of it off. Immediately Valentino’s anger dissipated. Shok.wav did his best to leave the rest for Valentino.
“Oh. You’re as bad as Voxxie.”
Eyes filled with tears, but Valentino’s tongue extended down to scoop a few portions into his own mouth. He chewed slowly as the tears spilled over.
Shok.wav didn’t understand why Valentino was so sad. He didn’t understand why daddy was upset and Velvette was angry. He rested his nose on the couch, because more than that wouldn’t fit.
Valentino pet him. Once more, he offered a piece of meat to Shok.wav. Shok.wav parted his teeth to eat it, because as long as he did, Valentino would take the next bite himself.
