Work Text:
Sirius’ favorite thing about the war ending with that night at the DOM, and getting declared innocent is that he not only gets to finally build a family with Harry, finally getting to set up their own home. His second favorite thing is that he gets to visit with him even at the end of the summer because Dumbledore offered him a job as DADA professor – with the curse gone, he was free to not worry about something bad happening.
Which was great because Harry had been over the moon about Sirius coming to Hogwarts with him.
We never really got to spend enough time together before, now we can have even more time together, he had said when Sirius broached the possibility. The smile on his face could’ve probably lit a thousand rooms.
Which is how he found himself, here, in his rooms at Hogwarts. Harry’s already visiting, talking about his first week with a brilliant smile, and Sirius couldn’t be happier.
“So, anyway, I am very excited about tryouts tomorrow, but I am nervous that so many people want to join all of a sudden.”
“Is it sudden?” Sirius questions. “You and Katie are the only two from the old team and both previous captains just kept the old team together as much as a possible.”
Harry frowns. “Are you saying that they should’ve had us re-tryout every year? That’s what Katie suggested, but we had a brilliant team.”
“You can have a brilliant team and still want to make sure you’ve got the best team by having tryouts every year.”
“I suppose that makes sense.”
“Either way, maybe some people are thinking this is finally their chance to shine,” Sirius offers. “But it might take you all morning.”
“Yeah, so I should probably get going,” Harry offers. “But you’ll come watch?”
“Always.”

Sirius enjoys their fresh start even more as the days go by.
Harry has his schooling, but he always comes to visit, and Sirius quite enjoyed that he, himself, was able to have his own life, too.
That life included Kingsley, who had started with visiting to help with Sirius’ classes and surprised Sirius with a kiss.
Harry found it hilarious when Sirius told him, largely because only you would end up dating the bloke that was assigned to find you (and you know, deliberately mislead the Ministry about your location).
Sirius had rolled his eyes and just been delighted that Harry was happy for him.

I – First Time
Sirius smiles as he runs his hands over Kingsley’s shoulders. They’d had a delightful date where Kingsley jokes that maybe he’s off his game when he talks about feeling like he can’t find his target on the job and Sirius teases it’s because he had spent too long after a fugitive that he already knew where he was.
“Perhaps, we should switch jobs.”
“Tempting,” Kingsley offers. “But we both know that you would never be an auror after everything you’ve been through.”
Sirius hums and moves so that he’s in Kingsley’s lap. “Maybe you could be my kept man instead.”
He leans in to kiss him, but before he can, his door bursts open.
“I cannot deal with Ron and Lavendar, right now! It’s getting ridiculous just how attached they are. I swear they’re like attached to each other by the lips,” Harry complains, not even paying attention to anything that he’s interrupted.
“Young love often happens to be that way,” Sirius offers, shifting so he’s beside Kingsley rather than on his lap. “It’s new, he’s probably just excited.”
“It’s gross, and I can’t even have a conversation with him without Lavendar interrupting because she hasn’t kissed him in ten seconds and needs to,” Harry counters.
Of course, it didn’t matter what Sirius said because Harry’s too busy on a roll about how annoying it is that his best mate has a girlfriend that wants to make it clear to everyone, particularly their best friend, Hermione, that Ron was hers now.
So, he rants and paces and doesn’t even notice the fond and shared smiles between Sirius and Kingsley because all he needs or wants is a captive audience.
It’s only when Kingsley gets a fire call about lead that Harry realizes that he interrupted a date night.
“Oops?” he offers after Kingsley leaves.
Sirius rolls his eyes. “Yeah, sure, kid.”

II – Several Times
Sirius loves Hogsmeade weekends.
It’s the perfect opportunity for a date not his quarters, especially since Harry keeps coming by at the worst times. Namely, all of the times that Kingsley happened to be over.
He loves the kid.
He loves that this is fresh start with him.
He just also loves the ability to be alone with his boyfriend.
So, he relishes that Harry should be preoccupied with his friends, and not interrupt Sirius’ date with Kingsley…
“You’re nervous,” Kingsley teases. “We’ve been dating for months; I shouldn’t make you nervous.”
“Not nervous,” Sirius assures him.
“Yet, you keep looking around as if you are,” Kingsley retorts.
“I’m just making sure that no one is going to interrupt.”
Kingsley laughs. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear Harry was doing it on purpose, but I think he doesn’t mean to interrupt.”
“He’s not doing it on purpose, I know, but it still keeps happening.”
“So, instead of him physically interrupting, you’re letting the chance that he might show up to interrupt – interrupt us?”
He’s teasing and Sirius laughs. “Fair enough, you’re right. Can I get you a drink?”
“That’d be delightful.”
“Coming right up.”
Sirius should’ve realized that by the time he’d gotten the drinks from the bar that Harry would somehow materialize because by the time he’d turn around, Harry’s behind him.
“Sirius!”
“Hey kiddo,” he offers, hoping that for once it’s just a quick hi, but Harry says, “You’ll never believe what happened today…”
He’s sure that it’s something to do with Lavendar, again, who appears to have become his nemesis in lieu of Voldemort and sure enough, as Harry grabs his own drink and follows him to the booth, that is exactly what he’s complaining about.
He nods and listens and when they reach Kingsley, he gives him an apologetic look, but Kingsley just smiles because he’s the best boyfriend ever and he knows that there’s a part of Sirius that loves that he’s finally getting to be there for Harry in this way.
The way that Harry wanted and deserved.
It’s kind of nice.

III – Suggestion Time
“I love Harry so much, I do, but I thought that he’d … get used to the Ron and Lavendar thing by now,” Sirius complains as he and Kingsley walk around the grounds.
The weather isn’t the best, but there are perks to being a wizard.
“Well, maybe the issue isn’t so much that Ron’s got a bird all over him as perhaps, he just needs to get himself a date,” Kingsley offers. “Maybe if he has his own distraction –”
“Sirius!” Harry yells and they turn to find Harry sitting sadly by his favorite tree.
Oh, see now that’s not what he wants to see at all.
His kid’s supposed to be happy.
“Kid? What are you doing out here all alone?”
“I was out here with Ron, but you-know-who showed up,” Harry pouts.
“Voldemort?” Sirius teases.
That earns him a glare. “You know exactly who I mean.”
Sirius hums. “You know this is just a normal part of first love, right?”
Harry rolls his eyes. “Doesn’t mean I have to like it.”
He laughs as he joins Harry with his back to the tree. “You know, kid, maybe it wouldn’t hurt for you to try and date someone yourself.”
Harry shrugs. “It’s not that easy, all that time that I spent being mistreated by the other students kind of makes me not interested. I mean, who would I even be able to date that didn’t have negative thoughts about me over the years?”
“That’s fair.”
“I just wish he could see how annoying it is, and I know Parvati is just as annoyed by it as I am because we keep getting stuck together in classes and stuff as Lavendar was always her go-to partner and now…”
Now, her partner is gone, too. Sirius gets it, it sucks to be replaced.
“Maybe you should commiserate with her?” Kingsley suggests as he sits on Harry’s other side.
“Yeah, it would give you something to bond over, at least.”
“I guess, I just wish I could get them to see why it’s so annoying.”
“Maybe you could show them?” Kingsley offers. “Or tease them until they stop.”
“Yeah, nothing gets an annoying couple to stop being annoying than teasing them about their actions,” Sirius adds with a grin, thinking about all the teasing he did of James and Lily when they were in the honeymoon stage.
Harry frowns. “You’re not talking about my parents, are you?”
“Unfortunately, yes. It took weeks for me to get them to chill out. I was happy for them, but I was quite annoyed as well.”
“And you just teased them to make them stop?”
Sirius shrugs. “Eventually they learned to be more courteous of the people around them.”
Harry hums. “That gives me an idea. Thanks, Sirius!”
Before he can ask questions or details, Harry’s on his feet and taking off, leaving Sirius alone with Kingsley.
“Well, I suppose this means that we can enjoy our own date, eh?”
“Any chance you want to go back to my quarters for our date?” Sirius asks, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“Sounds like the perfect date to me.”
“Good.”

+1 Harry interrupted date
Sirius is frowning as he and Kingsley walk through the halls. It’s been a few weeks since Harry had shown up to interrupt their dates complaining about Ron and Lavendar. He supposes that it’s probably a good thing – either Ron’s finally figured out how to be a good friend with regards to his girlfriend, Ron and Lavendar broke up or Harry’s up to something – either way, Harry appears to be a lot happier and that’s a good thing. He thinks.
He’s curious about it to the point of distracting his own date even as he leads Kingsley to the Room of Requirement where he’s hoping to set up a better date than in his quarters.
Or at least something different.
“Maybe he’s got his own love that is distracting him?”
“Then why wouldn’t he have told me?”
“Perhaps he’s too into the honeymoon phase to remember that he should tell you?” Kingsley offers as the door for the perfect date place appears.
Sirius rolls his eyes and opens the door to a room with a nice romantic date and a view to die for…
It also has… Harry.
“Harry? Kid?”
It turns out that Kingsley might be right about Harry finding a new love because beside him is Parvati, and they looked like they were being interrupted while on a date.
“Sirius!” Harry startles. “Er, what are you doing here?”
“We came to find a different type of date,” Sirius offers. “What are you two doing?”
Harry flushes, clearly embarrassed and shares a look with Parvati.
“Well, you remember how I was annoyed with Ron and Lavendar?”
“Oh, you know, I don’t recall that at all with all of the interrupted dates,” Sirius teases.
Parvati gives Harry a look, and he says, “You were just as annoyed.”
“True,” Parvati agrees. “We decided to be just as annoying as they were and drive them bonkers.”
“It was supposed to just be a prank of sorts, but it ended up being more,” Harry offers.
“So, now, you’re no longer complaining?”
“No reason,” Harry says, happily.
He’s happy for the kid. Happy for himself, too.
Sirius shares a look with Kingsley. “Well, good luck on your date, then.”
Then, he winks at him and leaves with Kingsley, laughing a bit at Harry’s flush.
“Well, I suppose this means we’ll have less interrupted dates, then?” Kingsley teases.
“And a happier kid,” Sirius says, smiling. “Eases my worries a bit.”
“Good. Then, maybe we should celebrate?”
“Yes, we shall.”
