Chapter Text

Emilyko had the most strange dream ever last night. It was her and her shadow Kate. They had been walking that afternoon. Mistress Kate had been stressed about keeping the children wing together. Emilico hope that Mistress Kate would have some peace of mind and joy thing for little while.

But it was all most time to wake up and get ready for the day. Emilyko tried to get out of her box but couldn’t. Which was weird. She had never had this problem before. Emilyko push with all her might and finally got her door to open.

What Emilyko found when she opened that door wasn’t her room. It was a hall with floating coffins or doll boxes? Emilyko saw many dolls or human? She wasn’t sure. They were all wearing a robes. Then she look at her self. She was wearing a robe! This confused her even more.

“Ah second to last. Well hello there!” A man with a crows mask came up to Emilyko with a smile. Emilyko smiled back at him. “My name is Crowley and i’m the headmaster of his school! Welcome to Night Raven College. Please step up to the Dark mirror and get sorted into your dorm.” Crowley said. Emilyko step up to the mirror.

Emilyko had no clue what was happening. She didn’t know if Crowley was a shadow in disguise or a real old kid. But she played along. She needs to get to her Mistress. Her Mistress. Emilyko had forgotten about Kate she must be so worried.

“State your name” The Dark Mirror asked. “I’m Emilyko!” Emilico could hear people whispering. ‘She a girl’ ‘she a kid.’ Emilyko didn’t let that get to her.

“Mmm. This soul had no magic!” The Dark Mirror pronounced. Students gasped, some whisper ‘there is only one other person like that’ “Dark Mirror is this the truth.” Crowley step up.

“Yes! I see no magic.” “Oh my well then I guess i’ll have to sent you home. Please say where you are from ”Crowley said with a sad face. “I’m from Shadow’s Mansion” Emilyko said. ‘Shadow’s Mansion?’ ‘I ever heard of that place?’

“There is no such place as Shadow’s Mansion” The Dark Mirror said. Emilyko couldn’t help but panic inside. Mistress Kate would be so worried.

“Um something black is coming from this coffin!?” A student said as he back up.

Kate had woken up in a coffin. She was walking around trying to clear her head. It was the afternoon but then she heard a horse and then black. Emilyko was the only person she could think of. Her first friend.

She could hear people outside. Was this a union or did Edward do something! She needed to get out her. She head Emilyko voice and thought it’s now or never. And used soot powder to get out.

“Is it another overblot!?” A student yelled. Overblot? Kate didn’t know what that was. Kate saw Emilyko and Emilyko saw her. With a smile that Emilyko gave she backflips to her.

The people around them had pens out. “I have questions” Kate said she gave an expression though no one could tell what it was. A black tail come out of her tho. It wasn’t until Emilyko gave one herself. It was an annoyance expression.

“Well I also have many questions. Like your name?” Crowley said. “My name is Kate. This is Emilyko my living doll.” Kate said as if this was normal. If Kate played her cards right she could understand so much.

The people around them mummer. “Well then why don’t you step up to The Dark Mirror and give it your name to see where you will belong.” The man with a crow mask said.

Kate step up and give her name. “I see. Mmm this soul had no magic but has great power within her… You don’t belong here.. too good for some dorms. There is no place here where you belong.” The Dark Mirror said with a grand voice.

A small smoke tail being to appear on top of her head. “Oh my seven. Well then will put the both of you in Ramshackle. With Alice.” The guy with a mask said

“Aww man. Shrimpy get to have the smoky girl and the sea monkey.” A tall man with teal hair said.

As everyone began to head off. Kate and Emilyko were left standing alone. Untill two people came? A girl with black hair and it was short. And a cat thing? “Hello there i’m Alice this is Grim welcome. I guess i’ll be your house warden. And Grim is vic warden? I’m so sorry this is the first time that i had another student in Ramshackle. And your names are?” Alice asked. “I’m Kate this is Emilyko my living doll and my face.” Kate said

“I’m sorry a living doll? Face?” Grim said “yes Emilyko is my face since, I don’t have one.” Kate said looking away and Emilyko did as well. A smoke tail pop out of Kate head

“Oh, well it seem…god dan- Crowley. Well Crowley only gave me one scheduled for you mean both of you will be sharing class.” Alice said

“That will be fine.” Kate said taking the paper and giving it to Emilyko. “Now let head to our dorm.” Alice said “lead the way.” Kate said

Alice introduces them to the ghost. Emilyko was so happy to make new friends. Alice show them rooms and gave them options to choose any place to sleep since it’s only the four of them.

Kate chose the one with the most windows and Emilyko chose the one across Kate. “I’ll let the tow of get settled in. Good night” Alice said

Kate and Emilyko were in Kate’s room when Kate said the question “Emilyko what would happen if we were to stay here?”

“I don’t know Miss Kate. But I would like to go back, back to our friends and save them.” Emilyko said. “Me to…” kate said stepping out and having her night gown. Kate laid in bed before saying “good night Emilyko” “Good night Kate” as Emilyko kiss her Shadow on her forehead goodnight.

Emilyko laid in her bed. The box that she usually slept in was never this soft. She just lay in it for ever. She slowly began to drift off to sleep.

Emilyko dream about her life before she ever step in Shadow’s House. Back in the circus, where her and Stella or now know as Candy used to play a game together. Even tho back then Emilyko didn’t really go by a name back then. They would play how many times could they get away with messing with the ring leader.

Candy would always win and had to bail her out of trouble. She miss that. She miss her friends.

Until the day she was fired. It was embarrassing. Emilyko still remembers the high of the rope. How many people had came to see her walk across a rope to the another side.

And the after of falling. That fall was the end of her career and the start of something new. Something that she loved to do. Help her friends. And having a place to call home.

Then Emilyko woke up. Ready to stat her day.

Emilyko opened Kate door to find it covered in soot. “Good morning Emilyko, how did you sleep?” Kate said as she got up from her bed.

“Very well! Miss Kate the bed was so soft!” Emilyko said with a cheerful expression. “I’ll be taking a bath now. Please clean up the place for me” Kate said “Yes! I’ll do my best” Emilyko said starting on the sheets of the bed. Emilyko had put them to wash. Which  was weird.

Alice had new washing thing? Thankfully the ghosts were there to help her out. She after getting the bed sheet to wash she start with clean out the room.

Miss Kate was really smart in pick a room with lots of windows. These windows were all ready open a little bit to let out soot. Thought Emilyko didn’t know why.

By the time the sheets were ready Miss Kate was done changing. “Emilyko how about you go rest up. We have a big day head of us.” Kate said “yes Miss Kate”

Emilyko laid on her bed again and too a little nap before wake up again and taking a bath and changing into new clothes.

Alice, grim, and Kate were wait on Emilyko all four of them head to the cafeteria.

They sat down. Emilyko copying Kate with every movements. Epel sat next to Alice.

“Hello there i’m Epel Felmier. The two of you must be Alice’s new student.” Epel said

Kate didn’t do anything but just put her fork down and look at Epel? It was kind of hard to see what her expression was.

Which took Epel back a bit. As clock work Emilyko copied her movements. And gave Epel a smile.

“I’m Kate. This is Emilyko my living doll and face.” Kate said “not to be rude but why is Emilico coping your movements?” Epel ask.

“It’s helps her get my expression down to a tea.” Kate said. Taking a bait of her food and Emilico did the same. Epel didn’t lnwo what to think.  “How old are you Epel?” Kate asked “16? Why.” Epel responded. (He should have s shadow or yet be one but if that was the cause then he would not be showing me his fave mean. There are not shadows like me in this world. Maybe that’s why everyone keeps looking at me) kate though

A tail of smoke appears on Kate’s head.

“Emilyko you are allowed to express your own opinion if you so wish.” Kate said. Which took Emilyko back. But she recovered.

“Yay! Hi I’m Emilyko nice to met you.” Emilyko said with smiling the biggest she had ever done.

“Wow you are very optimistic.” Epel said.

“Yeah, but the ghosts really like. Which is amazing because they usually don’t get along wi the people.” Alice said

It was 4 period and Kate and Emilyko had PE. Coach Vargas had the students run 100 laps and 25 push up. It was very easy for Emilico but Miss Kate struggled.

At the end Miss Kate was on the ground not being able to move.

“HEYYYYYY!” A boy with white hair and red eyes came up to them. “Hii!”Emilyko yelled back. The boy was standing in front of them. “I’m Kalim! You’re are right?” Kalim said.  “Yeah and this is my Mistress Kate.” Emilyko said while smiling.

Kalim and Emilyko both to talk. Kate couldn’t help but smile.

“Ahh. It’s sea monkeys and smoky.” Kate looked up to find the same teal haired man again.

The man took Emilyko and herself into a tie hug. Kate felt like slapping him right there

Chapter Text

Kate in face did hit the boy with teal hair. Leaving a black hand print. The boy let go of the two of them. Which gave kailm and Floyd a surprise.

“Wow smoky must be really mad at me!” The boy with the teal hair said. “My name is Floyd. I never had anyone hit me.” Floyd smiled and it was creepy.

Kate could only describe the feeling as when Anthony or Christopher ask her in front of the whole children wing to be his student.

A smoke of black tailed off of Kate. “Emilyko let go.” Kate said the black tailed moving more agitated.

It was after school. Kate and Emilyko had a long day. In class which people kept staring at them. In lunch where aging people kept staring at them.

But it was mostly Kate who got looks. Kate had to change about six times that day. The soot she produced was overwhelming.

Usually she only needs to change three times . But today was different.

Kate didn’t know what to think. Alice had said something about join a club? But then she was drag away by the Head Master. “Emilyko i think you should go find a club that suits you.” Kate said.

Emilyko couldn’t help but feel sad. Her shadow was stressing about new things.

Emilyko when throughout each club. Frist it was the basketball club but realized that one she was a girl in a boys basketball club would cause confusion for the opposite team. Two she was shorter then all of them. And three Emilyko didn’t understand the game.

Next up was the band club. Thought Emilyko tried, she really did try she couldn’t get the hang of an instrument or singing. It had been forever since she had sang.

The last it was with (Lou, Mia, and….)

Emilyko didn’t want to think about it. Next up was the science club.

It didn’t go well. Emilyko thought it would be like the her science club. With Oliver and Oille. But turn out it’s more potion plant and less mechanical.

Emilyko head out side. She wants to join a club that would be fun and help Kate but she hadn’t have the luck. Kate har help her some many times. Like catching her when she almost fell trying to get to the window. Or during the Dubut. But it was both of them combine that save them multiple times. Like when Oliver and Oille try to erase her memory.

Emilyko was glad that she left the circus. If not she wouldn’t have this life.

Emilyko was lost in thought before she trip over someone. Emilyko got up and look at the person, that had trip he over. The boy was sleeping. His hair was white or Sliver. Thought Emilyko couldn’t tell. He kind of reminded her of Jeremiah and Jeremy. Though Jeremy hair was a bit mire darker like two shades.

The boy seems to have wake up. “I’m so sorry to wake you up. I’m Emilyko.” Emilyko said. “You’re fine I’m the one who  should be apologizing. I trip you by accident.” The boy with sliver hair yawned. “I’m Sliver. If you’re looking for Equestrian club go to the stable.” Sliver says before drifting off to sleep.

Emilyko using to love the horse. Back in the circus. Emilyko knew what club she was going to join.

Emilyko looked for Kate before getting pointed to the last place people saw her. Emilyko head to the gaming club to find it the ceiling cover in soot. And Kate, A white hair boy, and fire hair boy, all smiling like they had the best time in their life.

Kate had the best time. Sure it took a few moments to get the hang of the game but she got it.

“Kate I do have questions for you? Why don’t you just cover yourself in makeup?” Azul ask. “… I tried but it fades away.” Kate said sadly as she placed her piece down. Smoked began to come out of her.

“Could you Smoke trail be use as a power source?” Idia mumbled. “Yes it can. Back in the Shadow’s House Mansion, the soot that we produce power everything.” Kate responded as she won the game. Leaving both of them in shock.

Azul grid his teeth. “One more round.” Azul said. This would go on until Emilyko  came in. By then Kate had five win, Azul 3 and Idia 2.

Night had fallen, Kate soot trail head out the window. The trail head two directions one down into a cave where five shape people. Lay. The other head to Royal Sword academy and into a bed where someone sleeping so soundly.

Chapter Text

It had been a week since the club’s were taking in new members. Thought now wasn’t a normal day Idia and Ortho were testing Kate’s ability.

“Okay, you can control soot you call it? So can you reform it into anything else.” Ortho ask. As Kate was about to speak Emilyko chimed in “Yes! It’s really cool, like this one time she made wings!” Emilyko said praising her shadow.

Ortho noted it down. “So let try that! Go up to the roof and jump down. Use your wings and I’ll measured the wings spanned, and how fall you come down.” Ortho said with a smile.

Emilyko could tell he was smiling. She really good at telling. “So you want me to jump of a roof to see how fast I’ll fall?” Kate said her voice was mocking. (What was his deal. Wanting me to jump what if I don’t create wings then what.) Kate through to herself.

“Wouldn’t it be better if just take off on the ground? Instead of going through all the climbing.” Kate said “well yeah but it would be as cool.” Ortho said.

Kate ignore him and shaped her har into wings. “Wings span 9 meters.” Ortho said.

Kate began to flap her wing and head up. 2 minutes and Kate had to come down.

A red hair boy and Blue hair came towards us. “Hey Ace, Deuce. What brings you here?”  Alice said as she step out of Ramshackle. “Riddle wanted to invite you to the unhappy birthday. Since you came last time.” Ace said. “Unhappy birthday? What’s that?” Emilyko ask.

“It’s a tradition in the Heartsbyul. Where we celebrate a person!” Deuce said.

“This brings me to ask you guys something. Can you battle Kate. I want to see how her soot reacts to magic.” Ortho said “Yeah!” Ace and Deuce said both of them.

In the first Ace when up. He using a fire spell, as Kate made a shield of soot around her.  Soot comes out, in smoke. Kate was holding her self in this fight. Kate made a duplicate of her. To distract Ace while she went in from behind him.

Give him a touch from behind ending the fight. “Man I thought i had you.but how did you manage to made two of you.” Ace said.

“Oh i just some of my soot and my clothes to make a figure of me.” Kate said. “Oh my seven. It seem the the fire made rock from you soot!” Deuce said.

“Ooo~ is it like Over blot rock!” Grim said before taking a bite and spitting it out. “This tastes like dirty and it’s nasty!” Grim said as he spit what ever was left on his tongue.

“Scanning complete. It’s coal.” Ortho said. Emilyko rush inside and came back with water and forcefully shoved it down Grim’s throat. Before heading back to get more water.

“Wha-“ Grim said before being forced to drink the water. “Emilyko you can stop I don’t think Grim is affected by the soot coal.” Kate said before Emilyko could go receive more water, but it was too late Emilyko had brought in another glass of water bur didn’t use it on Grim.

“Why would you do that!” Grim yelled. “I’m sorry.” Emilyko said. “It’s natural for her to react that way. Coal can be very dangerous if consumed.” Ortho said

“It’s not that. Soot coal has a special property.  Burning it makes a smoke that has mind altering effects.” Kate said as she take the glass of water form Emilyko.

She pour the water on to the coal. Making it dissolve.

Then kate stomach growled.  “I’ll not that down.” Ortho said. “I have dinner made. Ace, Deuce, Ortho will you be joining us?” Alice said.

Kate walked into the garden of Heartsbyul. This dorm was beautiful. The roses were painted red?

How could some accomplish that. As Kate walked Emilyko was right behind her. Emilyko couldn’t wait to see how an unhappy birthday would play out.

As they arrived they were greeted by the house warden. Emilyko said hello first. “Hello Riddle.” Emilyko said, she knew Riddle from their club.  “Hello Emilyko and Kate. How nice of you guys to join us in Unhappy Birthday of ours.” Riddle

As they head to the unbirthday party. Two boy watch from far. One having black hair all most looking blue while the other has blonde hair.

But look past them a brown hair girl, with a braid. Looks on with a smile.
