C: Camp

Summary:

The camping trip was already a nightmare, and now Yosuke has to try to fall asleep on a pile of rocks thanks to the girls blocking off half the tent. Thankfully, Yu wakes up and has an idea to help.

Notes:

Previously had this as a chapter in a big sort of masterpost fic, but I decided constantly having to update the tags of which fandoms I've written for is more inconvenient than just posting each ficlet separately, so sorry for that!! ^-^;

Work Text:

Yosuke anticipated the school camp out being a total shit show, but everything somehow went worse than he expected.

First it was the sorry excuse for curry that the girls made with all of their ingredients, leaving them as the only group without food. Then it was Kanji going on a rampage and running out of the tent to stampede into the girl's side of the tents. Now Yukiko and Chie have set up a barrier in the middle of their tent, leaving Yu and Yosuke to cram up on one side, sharp edges of the rocks their tent rested on jutting into Yosuke at all sides.

He envied the other two students that were supposed to be in their group, they were smart enough to call in sick. He wished he thought of that sooner since he was going to be coming home from this trip in worse shape than he came in.

Yosuke caught glimpses of Yu sleeping peacefully as he tossed and turned, hoping he'd come across an angle where his body perfectly aligned with the few smooth surfaces on the rocks, a task that was starting to seem impossible. He let out a quiet groan as he turned once more towards the side of the tent, staring at the shadows created by the trees as he came to the conclusion that he wouldn't get any sleep tonight.

"Kanji wasn't kidding about that side of the tent then?" came Yu's voice from behind him.

Yosuke quickly whipped around, startled to find that Yu was suddenly awake, staring up at him from his much more comfortable spot in the tent. His back was pressed as far against the barrier as he could get without passing over it in a futile attempt to make more room for Yosuke. No matter how much Yu crammed up, the tent was simply too small for their current setup.

"Yeah, my back is gonna be broken when I wake up in the morning." Yosuke sat up and tried to stretch as much as he could with the room he was allowed, "Sorry partner, didn't mean to wake you."

Yu waved his hand as if to brush off the issue, shaking his head as he propped himself up a bit on his elbow. "You're fine, just… here, c'mon my side."

Yosuke raised an eyebrow as he looked at the small sliver of ground left between Yu's side and the pile of rocks he was currently laying on. He said it like it was such an easy thing, like there was so much room left for them. "Dude, what do you mean? There's barely any of your side left."

Yu chuckled before reaching his arm out to grab Yosuke by his collar, bringing them face-to-face on their side of the tent.

Yosuke's face flushed red as he was suddenly just inches away from Yu's face, his gaze perfectly lined up with his light gray eyes. He rushed to sit straight up, backing up towards the rocks again. "H-Hey, save those types of moves for the girls! You don't have to waste 'em on me. Besides, I spend enough time getting my ass handed to me in the TV world, I can handle some rocks."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." Yu averted his gaze towards the ground, embarrased at his attempt. He shifted his weight to sit up near the end of the tent, "Take my spot then. I got a bit of sleep in already, you shouldn't have to deal with that."

"Wait, I didn't mean- You don't have to-" Yosuke stumbled over his words as he tried to look for the right ones to say, if there were any. He didn't mean to imply he was uncomfortable, in fact it was the most comfortable he imagined he'd get in their current situation. The warmth of Yu pressed against him, the sudden relief from rocks jutting into his back, the sound of his heartbeat distracting him from the buzzing of mosquitoes outside of the tent…

"Fine, lay back down." Yosuke groaned, shifting towards the spot where Yu was, "It does beat sleeping on the rocks, as long as it's cool with you."

Yu smiled as he moved back into place, backing against the makeshift barrier to make room as they laid near each other, Yosuke's head resting slightly against Yu's chest.

While Yu fell back asleep with ease, the warmth of Yosuke's face kept him awake. As comfortable as he was, the additional sound of his own thudding heartbeat and his racing thoughts made it impossible to drift off.

He had to admit, it was a million times better than the rocks.
