Work Text:
Irina hears the door of her room opening, as she's laying in bed. She's surprised to see Ilya's blonde hair peak through the door. Was he not supposed to go with his dad and Alexei to the cinema?
Ilya comes closer to the bed and look at his mother's eyes with a worried look.
"Where is is papa?" He asked with a worried look.
Irina frowns, did he left without Ilya? That wouldn't be nice but not surprising...
"He went to the cinema with Alexei" she answered softly, deciding to not lie to him because that wouldn't help.
"Why couldn't i go too? I like cinema" pouted Ilya.
"It's because they went to see a movie for older kids, a scary movie" she says, hoping that she's convincing.
"You're lying" says Ilya back, crossing his arms.
She sighs softly and lift the cover, motioning him to join her under it.
"Come here, love" she says with a small smile that doesn't reach her eyes.
Ilya quickly lay down next to her and put his head on her chest, listening to her breathing as she run her hand through his hair.
They lay like this for a while, until Ilya points out quietly "Papa won't like it".
"That's okay, i can handle it" she reassures him, kissing his forehead. There will definitely be a fight. Especially if she decides to bring up the fact that Grigori left without Ilya, but there was no need to worry her son over it.
After a while, she turns the TV on and puts Ilya's favourite cartoon to make him smile. She can hear his giggles once in a while, as she zones out somewhere far away.
When Grigori comes back with Alexei, he sees both of them asleep in the bed, with the TV still on, and if Ilya notices his mother's red rimmed eyes and bruised cheek at dinner, he doesn't dare to say anything about it.
