Work Text:
Saparata couldn’t believe the predicament he was in right now. Here he was, standing before the grand doors of the school gym— wearing the pinkest princess dress known to man.
Let’s rewind back to yesterday where Saps and his best friend Fluixon were talking about plans for the upcoming school prom.
“Dude, do you have a date already for tomorrow?” Saps asked the man carrying a box filled with papers— student council duties probably.
Flux stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Saps. “Council members will be busy all night. I don’t see a reason why I need a date.”
“Wait, for real?” Saps gapes at the news. Flux rolls his eyes.
Flux just shrugged before walking again. Saps quickly follows behind him. “But you’ll still be there, right? Like overseeing the event?”
“Yeah. I think we will.” Flux replied with no interest whatsoever.
Saps pondered for a moment. He really wanted to go to prom with Flux. Because it counts as a part of his Grades. But of course he didn’t wanna go alone and be seen as a loner during the event. But if Flux is gonna be busy all night….
“Tell you what, I’ll wear a pink dress tomorrow.”
Both of them stopped in their tracks. Saps only just registered after the words left his mouth. Face turning into a bright shade of red. Was he that desperate to get Flux to go to prom with him?
A cough breaks the momentarily silence between them. Followed by uncontrollable laughter from his raven haired best friend.
Can the earth just swallow me right now?
Saps couldn’t believe Flux was laughing so openly right now. It was a sight to behold. A rich boyish laughter not everyone gets to hear out of him. The thought made Saps flushed more.
“D-don’t laugh!”
“Are you seriously going to wear a pink dress tomorrow?”
Saps stared at his best friend. A fond smile was on the bastard’s face, probably enjoying the idea of making fun of Saps tomorrow.
“Only if you go.”
Flux seems to consider his words. Because he’s looking at Saps like the answer is already obvious. “Then it’s a deal.”
As expected everyone stared at Saps and his peculiar outfit for prom. A very pink and long blush pink dress. Earlier, Ymis saw him and decided to give a pink crown that goes well with his fit. Now he was a complete pink princess.
People were giving jokes here and some surprisingly more compliments there. Some even nominated him for the dress of the night but of course Saps declined since he didn’t want to be dubbed that.
Saps made his way towards the tech booth, where most of the council members were. He spots a familiar red head and immediately went to tap her lightly on the shoulder.
Turning around, the redhead’s expression turned into surprise. “Saps!” She immediately looked at him from toe to top with an amused expression. “Look at you!”
“How’s my fit, Cass?” Saps does a little twirl to showcase his pretty dress.
“Absolutely crushing it dude!” Cass raises the cup she was drinking in honor of him.
Saps smiles sassily. “Hey, do you happen to know the whereabouts of a certain council member?” He asks in a hushed voice.
Cass’ eyebrows furrowed. “You mean Flux? He informed us he wasn’t coming.”
Wait what?
The surprise must’ve been evident on Saps’ face, causing Cass’ expression to form into a frown.
“I’m sorry Saps, but we thought he’d inform you already.”
Oh.
He did inform Saps yesterday. But that was before. Before Saps suggested that he’d wear a pink dress if Flux showed up. And Flux actually agreed.
Did Flux stood him up?
Saps’ face morphed into a bright red, not out of anger but embarrassment. How could he be so foolish to think Flux would agree to a stupid idea like this? He must be laughing from wherever he is right now.
The thought made Saps’ head spin. He doesn’t know how but he managed to bid farewell to Cass and make his way to the restroom without bumping into anyone.
He splashed his face with water. Once. Twice. Trying to get rid of the moisture forming in his eyelids. Because why the hell would he cry?
Silence followed in the bathroom, the only sound of running water from the faucet. He sighed heavily, taking deep breaths.
He looked up and stared at his reflection in the mirror.
Oh wow. I do look weird.
His face was dripping with the water he had just splashed himself with, his eyes downcast and red on the sides. His long white hair had gotten wet near his face. “Gosh this idea was so fucking stupid….” Saps groaned as he wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.
“I should’ve known…” he muttered to himself in defeat.
“Should’ve known what?”
The voice startled Saps, quickly turning around to face the familiar owner of the voice. Gosh he hoped he didn’t look that obvious right now.
The person at the door was dressed in a tailored black suit, paired with a teal ribbon. Standing at the door was none other than his best friend’s right-hand man.
“Thomas?”
Thomas blinked at the sight of his friend dressed in a pink dress from head to toe. From his view he thought he had walked into the wrong restroom when he saw the long white hair and pink dress. He really did look like a princess right now.
But that wasn’t the only thing Thomas noticed. “Were you crying?” He took a step closer.
Saps immediately covered his face with one hand while the other tried to stop Thomas from coming closer. “No. Nope. Just— dust in my eye. Man.” He chuckled lightly to ease the tension.
Thomas doesn’t seem convinced. But he stopped. Pondering for a second as Saps tries and fails to hide his face. Then something clicked in Thomas’ mind.
“Don’t tell me… did you get stood up?”
Saps chuckle fades into a sigh. His arms falling to his sides. Messy face open to the last person he wanted to be seen by. Out of all the people to walk in on him crying, it had to be his best friend’s right hand man. But in honesty, Thomas is his friend too.
“Am I that obvious?”
“Well, you are now.” Thomas chuckled lightly as he reached into his pocket, retrieving a red handkerchief. Saps raised an eyebrow.
“Is that the red bandana you always wear?”
Thomas nodded, staring at the piece of cloth fondly. Saps wanted to ask something— a question about a certain someone.
The question died on his throat when he felt the piece of cloth connect to his face.
Thomas was wiping his face carefully with the same bandana that he wouldn’t let anyone touch or hold. Yet, here he was. Wiping the face of an embarrassed pretty pink princess.

Saps didn’t protest, he simply let Thomas wipe his face. He didn’t want to embarrass himself further. Honestly he felt like a princess right now. Having a man like Thomas wiping his face carefully felt a little too intimate.
“There.” Thomas retrieved the cloth from Saps’ face, smiling proudly at his work.
Saps released the breath he didn’t realize he was holding. Finally finding his voice, “Thanks man.”
Thomas chuckled as he pocketed his bandana. Then he dramatically dipped his head and bowed before Saps. “Anything for the princess.”
To which Saparata rolled his eyes at. “Ha ha, very funny.”
Thomas straightened himself and leaned on the sink, mirroring Saps’ position. “So… are you still waiting on your… ‘date’ to show up?”
At the reminder, Saps sighed. Crossing his arms and turning his head to Thomas. “Guess not.” The confirmation from Cass earlier was enough as it is. Saps wasn’t going to sulk all night because he got stood up by his best friend.
Clearing his throat, Saps asked. “So. Where’s your date, Thomas?”
“Hmm…” Thomas stared in front of him for a while, a distant look in his eyes. “Didn’t really ask anyone.”
“Ahh…” Saps understood. Thomas didn’t really seem like the type of person to enjoy these types of events. Sort of like F— that guy. “You came for the Grade then?”
“Yep.”
“Same.”
Silence settled between the two. A comfortable one.
Thomas broke the silence first. “Do you want to leave this place?”
“Thought you’d never ask.”
“Thomas, I think we’re lost.”
The two of them were on the sidewalk of who knows where. Originally, they were only planning to walk around the campus garden for a while. But they got too lost in their conversation to notice that they had gone off track.
“Uhhh, let’s just take a left and see….”
Saps quickly grabbed Thomas by the elbow “No wait! Don’t turn left, remember?”
“Ah, right. Right….” Saps let go of Thomas’ elbow, but surprisingly the latter took his hand and intertwined it together.
This earns a raised eyebrow from Saps, a playful smile on his face. To which Thomas mirrored as well.
The two continued on with their walk, hand in hand. The cold air brushing against them, with the moon being the witness to the two’s presence.
Saps had never felt this way. Not even with Flux. Thinking back to it… he had always been the one to initiate hang outs with Flux. Always the one calling the shots while the latter sometimes tags along.
Saps stared at his hand, intertwined with Thomas. It felt natural. He felt at peace. Like the puzzle piece that you’re always trying to piece together. Thomas is a great friend. Saps has never seen Thomas as anything more than that….
But is it the same to Thomas?
“Thomas.”
The man looked back at him, eyebrows raised, waiting for whatever he wanted to say. “Hmm?”
“I appreciate you, man.”
This makes Thomas stop walking. Saps internally panics, thinking he might’ve worded that wrong.
But then he was suddenly wrapped in a warm embrace. Stunned, Saps takes a while to process that his friend was embracing him. Tightly. He could feel the weight of Thomas’ hug, which compelled him to wrap his arms around his friend.
A muffled confession. “You’re dear to me, Saps.”
Warmth spreads through the taller princess, a flush forming on his face at the declaration. And in the silence, he answered.
“Thank you, Thomas.”
Thomas’ breathing falters. And the hug tightened a fraction before relaxing. Untangling from one another. A smile present on both their faces.
Saps extended a hand out for the man in front of him. A silent invitation from the pretty pink princess. Thomas tilted his head, a small chuckle escaping him. His hand reached for the pink gloved hand. A perfect fit.
And they silently danced beneath the moonlight.
