Work Header

No bad blood.

Summary:

I don’t even know how to summarize this. I tried really hard to write this and it’s a bit iffy until the end for me.

Scott and Avid hated each other. Until Scott had to improvise and Avid was there at the wrong place and time.

Work Text:

Scott and Avid never got along.

“He’s a vampire! I’m telling you!” Avid cried, pointing an accusing finger at Scoot. Scott raised his hands in the air.

“The only evidence you have of that is because I only wear golden jewelry.” Scott said in response. “Shelby’s wearing golden jewels. Yet you say nothing about her.” Avid fumed, yelling obsencities and profanities.

At the end of the day, he didn’t have enough proof to convict Scott. The people whispered about him. Poor Avid, so paranoid. Crazy Avid, seeing things that aren’t there. Mean Avid, tongue turning so sharp out of nowhere. Scott always smiled, seeing the other people flinch and back away.

Avid may have been smart enough to figure out Scott was a vampire, but not smart enough to see how his methods were pushing people away. Scott hated his annoying, whiny voice that was as always full of hostility. He hated how Avid acted like he was some scholar compared to everyone else. He had the audacity to act like he was above every else.

Scott wanted nothing more than to kill Avid with his own hands, disfigure him and drop him off a cliff and play the role of the victim who still cared for his verbal abuser. But he couldn’t. Besides, Avid was slowly ruining his own reputation.

Scott continued to make himself appear more human, all while reveling in the anger Avid showed. As Scott turned Pyro and Shelby, Avid became increasingly antsy.

One night, Avid had tried to impale him with a wooden stake. Scott blocked it with his arm. It stung, but seeing the horrified looks directed towards Avid made up for it all. Avid was nothing more than a disgusting animal at the core, desperate for people to believe him.

So it was no surprise when Scott and the other vampires got exposed, Avid jumped with joy. “I told you. I told you.” Scott grumbled to himself, fleeing the village.

Oh how those humans were so apologetic. It made him sick. But he put his hatred aside. Revenge later, his coven now.

Thankfully, he had been cleaning up the castle for them to stay at. He had been thinking and drafting a plan as well.

Scott and the others had been choosing certain people and picking them off one by one.

Scott went out one night to track down Apo, who was going to be the next vampire. He almost forgot about Avid. Almost.

Scott walked elegantly through the woods. Apo should be here any moment if other got the message. He came to a halt and waited patiently. In the distance, he saw a light of a lantern. Such an old-fashioned light source. In the age of fan fiction, you would think that Apo would bring a flashlight. Scott let Apo come to him, but as the other approached, it was clear this wasn’t Apo.

It was Avid, looking worse for wear. He held a lantern in one hand and a crumpled letter in the other.

Scott narrowed his eyes.

“You were always snoopy.” Scott commented.

“I won’t let you do it.” Avid hissed. They discarded the letter and reached into their pocket. They pulled out a wooden stake. Scott was surprised it could fit.

“What do you think you’re doing with that?” Scott asked with a smile, though it was clear he was not amused. Avid laughed shakily.

“I’m ending this. We kill you, then we can cure the others.” Avid lunged towards Scott. Scott only side-stepped.

“You sure do hate me.” Scott said. Avid screamed and tried to lunge for him again. Scott grabbed his wrist and twisted it. “You aren’t Apo, but I think I’ll be satisfied if I turn you instead,” Scott said, ignoring the pained expression on Avid’s face.

Acid’s face fell. “What?” Oh poor, confused Avid. Not so high and mighty now, are you? Scott slammed Avid to the ground and sunk his teeth into his neck. Avid screamed in pain. Scott wasn’t going to bother with the venom that usually numbed the bite. Why would he? Avid didn’t deserve it.

Scott pulled away, looking down at Avid. Weak and pathetic. Maybe he could make Avid clean the castle. He wouldn’t be good at fighting. “Get up.” Scott ordered. Avid curled into a ball.

“It’s not that bad. Come on.” Scott nudged Avid with his shoe. The other groaned. “You’re so dramatic.” Scott mumbled, kneeling down and picking up Apo. Scott wasted enough time and he wasn’t going to waste more waiting for Avid to get up.

Shelby had just finished preparing the room when Scott came back.

“We don’t have Apo. We have Avid.” Shelby perked up.

“Oh, Avid? The one you tormented?” Shelby giggled. Scott nodded and put Avid in the bed. The other had long since passed out.

“You’ll be here to explain everything, won’t you?” Scott asked. Shelby nodded excitedly. Good. Scott needed to write another letter.

Scott was finishing the roof when Avid and Shelby came to him.

“Scott! We dug Avid an outfit from your closet!” Shelby called. Scott climbed down to look. Of course, his closet became free game within the coven.

“Let’s see then.” Scott sighed, walking over to the two. Avid wore a simple suit and a red cape. It was quite different from his human clothes.

“You don’t look half bad.” Scott said. Avid looked startled .

“I don’t?”

“It’s my closet, you’ll look good in anything in there.” Scott turned and left.

He didn’t see the embarrassment on Avid's face.

Avid took the turning pretty well, considering how amazing the benefits were. Being a vampire was awesome. It was amusing to see Avid slowly realize that after being so insistent Scott was some sort of monster.

Scott noticed Avid didn’t seem to hold any resentment toward him either. He shouldn’t, after all, Scott made his life better. But the lack of fighting surprised him. Whatever, Scott wasn’t complaining.

~

Scott sat on the beacon. It wasn’t uncomfortable. He had been waiting a while with his guard up but there was no sign of anyone coming, so he thought it was good to sit down. A bat flew his way to him and landed on the ground, transforming into a very distraught Avid.

“I can never get used to that!” He laughs, standing up and dusting himself off. “Sire! What are you up to?” Avid sat down next to Scott on the beacon. His lack of social anxiety confused Scott.

“What does it look like?” Scott asked. “And you don’t have to call me sire. Don’t let Pyro make you think it’s necessary.”

“Why does he call you that?” Avid asked, tilting his head. It reminded him of a dog trying to understand its owner.

Scott shrugged in response. He was perfectly happy to go back to silence but of course, Avid liked to run his mouth.

“Being a vampire is so cool! I would’ve asked you to turn me a long time ago if I knew it would be like this. You know, I’m pretty sure I was dyslexic or something but suddenly, I could read again! Isn’t that amazing?” Scott nodded, half tuning out his rant.

The beacon turned. An excuse to leave. Scott wasn’t trying to be rude, it’s just that he had other things to do. “Oh! Sire!” Avid chirped. Did he not listen at all? “Where are you going after this?”

“Back to the castle—“ Scott answered.

“Oh! Look at the sunrise!” Avid rudely interrupted, pointing at the sky. Scott turned to look at the sky anyways. It was pretty. “I feel like I’ve been able to stop and appreciate the things I’ve never noticed before. Being a vampire changed that.” Avid explained. Scott listened silently.

Would it be rude to fly back?

“Scott? Thank you. I may have not been able to see it at first but I do now! I can be with all my friends, you guys, forever! I won’t be so lonely anymore.” Avid suddenly pressed into Scott’s side. “I’m sure everyone else will see it soon.”

Scott glanced down at Avid. “Perhaps. Maybe they’ll turn out to be less annoying when they turn. You did.” Scott commented.

“Wha? I’m annoying?”

“Not anymore.” Scott reassured Avid. And it was true. The other had been efficient in his tasks and hadn’t spent every waking moment accusing Scott of one thing or the other. “You’re prettier as well. Red eyes suit you well.” Scott looked back at the sunrise. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Avid blushing. Cute.

“So..you don’t hate me anymore?” Avid asked shyly.

“When have I ever expressed my hate for you?” Scott questioned. Avid looked away.

“It was kinda obvious. “ Avid said.

“Fair. But no, I don’t hate you anymore. You’re okay enough to be around. Less suffocating than Pyro.” Scott said. Avid beamed and immediately hugged Scott.

“No bad blood!”

Scott hesitantly hugged the other back.

“And- also, I got us…or everybody in the coven… necklaces!” Avid said, digging in his pockets and taking out a golden necklace. “I found them in a tomb and they didn’t hurt me so I gave one to everyone.” Avid said, reaching up to clip it around Scott’s neck. Avid's face was quite close and Scott could feel Avid mock-breathing. Still unused to not needing to breathe, Scott figured. He could see the wound where Scott bit Avid. It was healing nicely. Avid finally leaned away and Scott noticed the shine of his own necklace, something he hadn’t seen before.

They were somewhat matching now. The thought didn’t bother him as much as he thought it would. In fact, he liked the idea—if only a bit.

Maybe he was learning to do much more than tolerate Avid.

Notes:

Yeah didn’t really like writing this for a lot of it and I’m sure it shows. Really only did it for the bonuses but I feel I at least got practice from writing in others POVS? I always write SBI and I can write from their POVS more easily. This also had a romantic note to it? I think… I was following VSMP canon as much as I could. At least I tried it, gonna stick to DSMP/SBI though
