He’s grunting, blood going down his chin from his lip being split. Kyo is getting really sick of this bullshit.
“Catboy running out of steam?” Yuki taunts him from above. His fellow gang members laugh. Kyo glares at him.
“That’s fucking it, fucking rat!” Kyo springs to his feet, launching himself at the fucker. He raises his fist high, flying it straight into Yuki’s face. The bastard is finally getting a taste of his own medicine as he falls onto his ass.
Yuki’s fellow fuck faces try to get at him in defense, but he is more than able to get them to their asses, too.
He gets a thrill of pleasure when that fucking rat looks like he might cry. He’s trying hard to hide it, placing a hand on his mouth, but Kyo can see it in his eyes, the way the threat of tears is soon to spill. He wants to yell it to the rooftops.
“What is it, little baby rat? You talk big but can’t handle it being dished back out?!” Kyo then lifts his leg, kicking Yuki’s stomach. Yuki yelps like a girl.
Just an average Tuesday night for him.
----
It’s the following day after his brawl with Yuki. He comes to the convenience store because he needs something to drink. It’s so fucking hot in Japan during the summer. As he’s making his way down the aisle, he sees her. She seems to sense him, too, turning to look at him with a smile brighter than the sun outside. Blinding and beaming, warmer and inviting.
She’s also wearing a fucking STRAPLESS DRESS that is doing wonders for her CHEST, and he can’t help staring. It’s so distracting he almost doesn’t hear her calling his name.
“Kyo!” She takes two steps, and she’s at his side.
“T-Tohru…Fancy seeing you here.” He jokes.
“Heheh, I know, I’m here a lot. There’s a new peach drink out that I just had to try!”
He knows all about the exclusive convenience items. He’s gotten some delicious onigiri in the past that is no longer a thing.
“There was a salmon onigiri they used to sell here, and it’s been gone forever-“
“I could make you one, Kyo!”
“Y-You could???” He asks in bewilderment.
“Sure!”
He wishes he could hug her right then, but he resists. For now.
“So… Can I ask you something, Kyo?” Tohru tilts her head at him, looking so adorable and also hot in her strapless dress that is making his head spin. He has the naughtiest thoughts of taking her somewhere private. To kiss her senseless, to tug down the top of her dress and-
“W-What is it?” Kyo’s face is on fire. Why the FUCK is he having these thoughts right now with HER in front of him??? He’s a perv.
“Are you in a gang?” She asks as if she were asking about what candy to get.
“Who told you?” Kyo tilts his head this time as he looks at her, trying so hard not to have his eyes travel down to her chest.
“Your lip, Kyo! What the heck happened to it?” She asks, taking a step closer to him and raising her hand to place under his chin, drawing his face awfully close to her own, and Kyo’s heart is doing back-flips. “And the fact that not too long ago I was helping you with your injuries, the kind that one doesn’t just get from falling over or something.” She continues. “Just like this one.”
“Guilty as charged,” Kyo says. He can’t lie to her. Not to the person whom he’s been having way too many thoughts about. All good, of course. There’s never been anyone like this in his life that he’s ever seen this way. It’s every new and alarming, but also a strange, welcoming change of pace from what he’s usually thinking about: kicking Yuki’s fucking ass.
He really, really likes that he can think about Tohru now. That fucker is the LAST thing on his mind now. She’s a breath of fresh air. The cool drink he’s been needing after a hot summer afternoon. The first jump in the lake. The first girl he thinks of when he wakes up, and before he goes to sleep.
He’s got it so bad. Momiji and Haru have certainly taken notice of how he’s been distracted with gang-bullshit. He would leave it all behind if it meant he could just live out his days with Tohru.
Tohru laughs, and Kyo thinks that if he died right now, this would be the way to go. “You know you’re so sweet for someone in a gang.”
Kyo’s blush is now covering his ears to the back of his neck. “I-“
“No, really!” Tohru insists, a blush of her own dusting her cheeks. “I’ve been enjoying getting to know you, Kyo. I’ve already come here to this convenience store plenty of times anyway… but now I have another reason.”
Fuck it, he thinks while reaching out for her, tugging her closer, and whispering into her ear. “Good, because I do as well.”
“K-Kyo…” He can sense she’s nervous, her heart fluttering in her chest. Her eyes gazing up at him, her hand coming up to grip his shirt.
If they weren’t in a convenience store right now, he’d be kissing her.
“Tohru… could we…”
“Yes!” She replies without hesitation. He didn’t ask what he was going to ask. A smirk edges the corner of his lip.
—
He takes her someplace private, away from peering eyes, away from where his cousins could see them together. He finds a nice, quiet park; barely anyone is around. The humidity is a lot, of course, standing outside for any number of times will get you feeling sticky and sweaty in seconds. He leads Tohru to a spot under the shade of a tree.
“Are you okay with it, Tohru?” He asks, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
“To be honest, it scares me a little, Kyo. I’m worried about you.” Tohru says, placing her hand on the side of his face. “The thought of you getting hurt worse than you already have.. It’s scary.”
“Can I tell you a secret?” He drops his voice to a whisper as if he thinks someone he knows might be overhearing them.
“Of course.” She whispers back.
“I think I’m falling for you, Tohru.”
“That’s no secret, Kyo, because I am too.”
