Chapter Text
It was the first time in the last couple of months that the agency finally had a break from a world threatening case, so some of the members of the ADA decided to go out and have a makeshift vacation. They still hadn’t decided on where they were going to go, but that’s the best thing about Yokohama, there’s so many beautiful places they can see!
“Dazai-san.. Do you even know where you’re going?” Atsushi looked up at him droopy-eyed. They have been walking for what felt like hours, even if it was only a few minutes at best.
Dazai turned around and crossed his arms in offense, “Of course I do! Why would you ever doubt me?” He fakes a pout and feigns sadness at his mentee’s lack of faith in him. Atsushi looks at him with an ‘are you serious?’ kind of expression. “Though, I think maybe we don’t really need to go somewhere special, why don’t we all use today as a well earned rest day hm? Right Kunikida~?”
The man in question pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Dazai, the whole point of this outing was for us to do something fun.” Dazai puts his hands up in a mock defense with a small smile on his face, “But it could be fun to do whatever we all want! After all, maybe not everyone wants to do the same thing.” Kunikida let out an exasperated sigh and pushed his glasses back up. “Fine, since the president is letting everyone off today anyways, now would be the best time for everyone to do as they please.” Everyone seemed to cheer in excitement at that, and almost immediately the different members all went their separate ways.
“Wait guys at least tell us where you’re-” Atsushi yells, but nobody is listening to him, and he droops a bit. Dazai puts a hand on his shoulder and smiles. “It’s alright, they’ll be fine, after all everyone in this agency can handle themselves so we don’t always need to know where they are.” Atsushi doesn’t ease up that much at that, but he gives Dazai a nervous smile before standing up straight again.
Dazai looks around, then back at Atsushi. “So, where do you want to go, Atsushi?” Atsushi looks up at Dazai and thinks, just as he is thinking, he’s pulled out of his train of thought when a man accidentally bumps into him, knocking both him and Dazai over. The man seems to drop something without noticing, and Atsushi doesn’t notice it either. He gets up and is immediately about to apologize to the man for being in his way, but the man seems to have already disappeared. Dazai notices the book and points to it, “Do you think that’s important?”
Atsushi’s eyes widen and he reaches down to grab it, he looks around to see if he can spot the man who lost it, but it’s no luck, the man is just gone entirely. “Uhh Dazai-san, what do you think we should do with this?” Dazai reaches up to his face, looking like he’s thinking, “I say we keep it! Maybe that man will come around when he realizes his book is gone.”
Atsushi doesn’t respond, he just looks down at the book, it seems to be a journal of sorts. Maybe a diary? All Atsushi knows is that if it were him, he would want this returned to him immediately. “I mean, I guess we could.. But what if he doesn’t know where to look?” The idea of the man looking all over the streets of Yokohama to find his lost diary is something Atsushi seems to feel incredibly guilty about.
“I mean, usually we take most cases, even if it’s something that’s as simple as retrieving a lost diary, so that man should know where to look… Say, Atsushi, why don’t we head back for now then? I know we were supposed to take a small vacation, but this may be interesting.” Dazai says, posing a suggestion, but he’s already walking away anyways.
Atsushi sighs and follows him, “Maybe we should let the others know about this?” Dazai just holds his phone out in response, “Already let Kunikida know, which means the others should find out soon.” Atsushi and Dazai walk in tandem heading back to the Armed Detective Agency…

Upon arriving back at the ADA building Atsushi immediately rushed to his desk to put the diary down. Dazai just eyed it curiously, “Honestly, I’m kind of curious what might be written in that..” Atsushi looks up at Dazai in bewilderment. “Wha-?! We can’t do that, it’s private!” Dazai makes a kind of pouty face, despite being a grown man. “Aw come on Atsushi, think of all the stuff we can find in that~” Dazai pokes Atsushi, but then stops and sits up, “But seriously, this could be of interest. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling there might be something important in that diary.”
Atsushi holds the diary up, and he puffs out his cheeks, torn between respecting someone’s privacy or listening to Dazai. “I guess it wouldn’t be a bad idea, but we should wait for the others to come back…” Dazai whistles and looks around, “Well that might be awhile since some people are still enjoying their mini vacations, you know?” As Dazai says that, the door opens and Kyouka and Kenji walk into the Agency. “Oh.. Well it seems some people aren’t I guess..”
“Atsushi? You already came back?” Kyouka says, walking up to Atsushi and looking up at him. “Yeah… Dazai and I had an emergency I guess. Some man ran into us and he dropped his diary.” Atsushi holds up the diary so that Kyouka can see what he’s talking about. “I still say we should look in it, who knows what we could find!” Dazai says with a cheeky smile, and Kyouka just stays silent for a moment, until, “I agree. It could be useful.” She hits her fist in her other hand, and looks up at Dazai in agreement. “Although, I think we should do it with everyone here.” Kyoka holds up a finger, interrupting herself. “Yeah, that’s what I thought too!” Atsushi says, perking up. Dazai puts a finger to his chin and looks up, “So I guess we wait huh?”
