He’s close enough that he hears the way Tech’s breathing hitches a little. It’s almost imperceptible, but Hunter still senses it. “I want that, too,” Tech breathes. His voice is trembling. “More than anything.”

Hunter and Tech talked about mating one another once, but it’s not until Pabu that they cement their relationship for good. And then, Tech is gone but not dead, and Crosshair returns, and everything in Hunter’s life is turned upside down.

Hunter curses. “Why the hell are you only mentioning this now?” he hisses.
“Because I know you,” Tech replies, “and I know you would have come there and gotten affected as well.”
He doesn’t deny it.

After leaving Kamino, a mission gone wrong leaves Tech exposes to a toxin that interferes with his suppressants. He had hoped to never experience a heat without suppressants to make it more tolerable, but luckily, he doesn’t have to handle it alone.

He should have been expecting it, but he still startles when Crosshair grabs his wrist and spins him around, shoving him up against the wall. “You’re the one who walked away,” he snarls, caging Hunter in. “You don’t get to drop back into my life when it’s convenient for you.”

Hunter hasn’t seen Crosshair since Kamino, but he hasn’t been able to let go of him. Crosshair meant everything to him, once. When Rex calls the Batch to Coruscant, Hunter cannot resist the temptation that is Crosshair, no matter how foolish and how dangerous it is to meet him.

“What would you rather? That I keep bringing it up?” He knows his voice is too defensive, that he needs to tone it down, but he just… can’t quite manage it.
