“Bruce is trying to take you away from me, Timothy, just like he took your Daddy away.” Mommy says, and Tim’s heart bangs against the confines of his ribs, “He made Jack be sent to jail. Do you want to be without your Mommy, too?”
Tim’s scent curdles with such a ferocity that even Mommy’s nose wrinkles, unforgiving nails pressing harsher into the delicate skin of his face. “No, no please,” he begs, unable to keep the words in, “No, Mommy, please don’t go.” Tim doesn’t know what he’d do without his Mommy. She’s finally being affectionate with him. He’ll take a spanking, a time-out, even a special punishment if it means that he can stay with her.
Mommy continues, the smile back on her face and with it a physical relief thrums through Tim’s entire body, helping to soothe the jackrabbiting of his heart, “You are essential to my plans, and I am fighting to get you back, but you need to help me. Will you be a good boy and follow my instructions?”

Tim’s Mommy has never been so gentle with him before. She’ll even let him come home, so long as he can get away from Bruce. That’s easy, if Tim is naughty enough then he’ll be deemed too burdensome to bother with.
Tim is good at being given up on.

Summary
