Summary
As Lucifer walked across the room towards the Detective's desk, he noticed that the figure sitting there was definitely not the Detective. The figure was quite a bit smaller, and much more inclined to sticky hands and impulsive hugs. She, however, didn't seem to notice him and was rather subdued. He thought it was strange to see her so unlike her usually happy and (unfortunately for him) clingy self. So much so, in fact, that he found himself making his way over to her and asking (without thinking or really even being conscious of the act), "What's wrong, child?"
Beatrice Decker jumped and tried to smile at him when she realized who had approached her. "Hi, Lucifer..." she said instead of answering his question.
"Yes," he replied absently, trying to think about anything else but the child in front of him (he couldn't). He watched as she looked down at the table; she didn't even try to hug him as she usually did. "Spawn," he called to get her attention. When she looked up at him, he found himself kneeling down to her level. "What's the matter, darling?" he asked, his voice gentle and soft (so unusual when applied anyone who wasn't his Detective).

Lucifer was sat in his bed on the way to being very, very drunk. He had locked the elevator, and was pouting at the wall opposite him, chugging bottle after bottle of very high end whiskey. He’d set the mood with some very sad music interspersed with songs that he had attached to Chloe Decker. With a heavy sigh, he pulled his photo album (the one he’d been given for Father’s Day) out of his nightstand and ran his hand over the cover. This was the most important thing he’d ever been given and he wanted it as close as he could get it.

Lucifer had never seen Chloe like this before. She was lethargic and her eyes were bright, and he was worried. Ella had mentioned that the Detective was probably getting sick. She was stressed enough and being sick was the last thing she needed. He sighed as he brought her tea instead of coffee like he usually would (and he hoped she wouldn’t be mad at him for it because she’d already almost bitten Dan’s head off for “absolutely no reason” according to Dan, but as Lucifer saw it, begging off from a weekend with his daughter didn’t seem like no reason).

Lucifer shifted uncomfortably as he stood at the back of the room. It wasn’t a sort of room that he usually occupied, but he was here as a favor for the urchin. Well, he said favor, but what he meant was just, well, she’d asked him to come to her school that day and he promised to be there whenever she asked. So here he was. There were other adults lined up against the wall, and Lucifer supposed that they were the other… creatures’ parents, but one could never be too sure with small humans.

It was in the middle of spring break for the urchin and this wasn’t Lucifer’s usual scene. He would rather be somewhere else, somewhere inside for starters, but here he was standing near bleachers of all things, in a field, in the middle of almost nowhere with the Detective by his side. He was scowling at the gnats and mosquitos that were buzzing around his head, but there wasn’t anything he could really do about that.
