"I need a favor," he says at last.
"With what?" says Grantaire. "Ooh, are you forming a cult? Can I join? I'd be awesome at cults, I just know it." He ticks off his qualifications on his fingers. "I love chanting, I look great in robes—"
(High school AU. Grantaire the disaffected stoner is pulled into a cause bigger than himself. Or: in which there are pretend boyfriends for great justice.)

Summary
The Rivera Court in the Detroit Institute of Arts is bigger than Grantaire remembers, which is weird, actually. The last time he saw it, he was a tiny middle schooler, so if anything, it should feel smaller now. Of course, that would only work if Grantaire had gotten taller since eighth grade, and he pretty much hasn’t, but still. Looking up at the murals for the second time, he’s not sure he has the right to feel this awed.

Even two months after that nightmare night when Eponine called to say that her house was burning down, even after Enjolras’s parents intervened with surgical precision, even with Eponine and Gavroche placed safe in a foster family who by all accounts does not suck, Grantaire still feels a moment of crawling dread in the pit of his stomach when Eponine calls unexpectedly.
“What’s up?” he manages with half his brain, as the other half tamps down the existential terror.
“You sound breathless,” says Eponine. “Did you bolt across the room hoping it’d be your high school sweetheart?”
“No, dude, I was just, like, pining for your absence.” Grantaire is too relieved to be even a little bothered. An Eponine giving him shit is an Eponine who is not in immediate crisis.

“To when?” asks Enjolras in a very reasonable tone of voice.
Grantaire covers his face with his hands. He’d been ambivalent about coming clean, but Enjolras had expressed some pretty clear discomfort at the idea of “indefinitely pursuing a real and serious relationship grounded in a lie,” and then part of Grantaire’s brain had pleasantly flickered off at Enjolras calling their relationship “serious,” and now here they are.
“I think he means, to the part where you and Grantaire pretended to date each other for like two months,” Eponine puts in helpfully between bites of pizza. “I mean, that’d be my guess.”
