Summary
Melkor had spotted you. His eyes locked with yours. The light of them struck you, blue and piercing and hurting. You could not look away.
Deep in the bowels of Utumno, there is a chamber that Melkor uses for his experiments: breaking apart the bodies of countless Elves just to see what they are made of.
It is in this chamber that Mairon finds himself in the midst of something unexpected.

Summary
This, all of it, was Mairon’s idea. His dutiful lieutenant, his resplendent Maia, sidling up to him as he worked in his rooms, as with a quill he inked a diagram on an empty book-sheaf. And in the diagram an instrument was depicted, a tool for bodily investigation whose construction Melkor was refining, and it was one Mairon had not encountered before.
May I? he asked, bending his fair head over the page, running his glittering index finger just outside the not-yet-dry outline of ink. He was curious. He had questions. Melkor answered them plainly, and Mairon nodded as he listened, and though his face was schooled into unerring neutrality, Melkor heard the slight quickening of his breath, noted the darkening of his eyes to murky sand-storm gold.
Could you show me? Mairon requested at last. A… demonstration, if that is not too much to ask; and so here they are.

Summary
Mairon cursed the damn jewels upon Melkor’s brow and their unrelenting light; he cursed the Valar for imprisoning his master and he cursed Ungoliant for maiming him. Melkor had returned to him from beyond the Sea like a husk of a god, a vessel filled with less holiness than hatred.
Since his return from Valinor, Melkor has been cold and distant, more ruthless than ever before. When Mairon makes a suggestion during a council meeting, Melkor sees treachery where none was intended and decides on a lasting way to make Mairon’s place clear: putting his name on Mairon’s body.

Summary
“The coming of the Elves was unlooked for. As was your return with the jewels, if I might add, and the war that it has brought.”
“Careful, lieutenant. You keep the true intent behind your words veiled from me, but your tone is plain enough. The Silmarils are mine by right. I will not surrender them for the sake of anyone or anything on this earth.”
Long years have passed since Melkor’s escape from Valinor, years filled with war and bloodshed, disappointment and resentment.
After exchanging harsh words with his master, Mairon decides to join an outgoing company of Orcs during what will later come to be known as the Dagor Aglareb.
But not everything goes according to plan.

Summary
“The sortie was a triumph,” Mairon says, holding the helm upon his lap and gazing up into his face. He smiles a smile that grows and stretches, wider and wider, as though there is something within him that cannot be contained. Something vast. Something keen. “Beleriand is open to us. Those who thought we could be penned in, who thought our might the lesser, lived to regret such misapprehensions. Or,” he adds, showing his teeth, “did not live, as the case may be.”
Melkor is drawn to that smile, to the something—vital, beguiling—underneath it. He reaches out. Places the leather of his gloved palm and fingers upon Mairon’s cheek. Beneath the leather, pain tingles, his burned skin protesting the contact. Mairon nuzzles against him, eyes flickering shut, a noise issuing from him that is happy and mindless, like the purr of some great pleased beast; and Melkor forgets the pain.
“Congratulations are in order, I should think,” he tells him, “to the brilliant mind who engineered this victory.”

Summary
“I should whip you again,” Melkor said conversationally from where he was sprawled among the pillows in his bed, watching Mairon as he examined himself in the mirror.
Mairon turned. A smile flashed across his face, a small one, hiding secrets. “I need to be able to sit down, my lord.”
Melkor’s gaze darkened. He moved to kneel up on the bed, reaching for Mairon and drawing him close by the waist. “Not if I have you on your back all day.”
A teasing little laugh left Mairon’s lips. He wound his fingers in Melkor’s hair and tugged, hard. “I have meetings.”
“Cancel them.”
“I have meetings with you.”
“I’m sure whatever it is can wait.”

Summary
"Mairon opened his mouth, but no words came out. He did not know how to even begin to articulate the feeling that had gripped him, love that was lust that was a dark, fierce craving throbbing in his stomach: a need to touch and to possess, to take Melkor and break him open until the boundaries between lord and lieutenant ceased to matter.
He was Melkor’s, that much was true, had always been true; but Melkor was also his."
It is a night of revelry in Angband: spirits are high, drink is flowing freely, and Mairon makes a bold request.
