Summary
The boy is cold, that much is clear. He’s shivering, thin as a switch and trembling like a leaf in a storm, even though the door of the tavern slammed shut behind him more than a few minutes ago. That the warmth of the inn still hasn’t seeped into him speaks to how long he must have been outside, freezing down to his bones.
Cas feels cold just looking at him, and he wants to tell the boy to go sit by the fire, to warm himself up. He doesn’t think his offer would be welcome, however, as the boy seems to be doing everything in his power to avoid Cas’s attention. Hiding in the shadows, the boy makes himself as small as possible, only rarely daring to glance furtively over to the counter that Cas stands behind. He seems to be checking to see if Cas has noticed him, and seems relieved as Cas pretends that he hasn’t.

Cas is an overworked teenager who just lost his father, and is trying to run the tavern that's been left to him on his own. Dean knows nothing but mistreatment, and will do anything for a full stomach and a warm place to sleep.Series

Summary
After the fifth time he wanders outside without a coat and shoes on, Cas sits him down in the evening and puts the items directly in his lap.
“These are yours,” he tells Dean. “They belong to you, now. You don’t need my permission to wear them. I’m not going to take them away from you. I’m not going to get mad at you if you put them on when I’m not around. In fact, I want you to do that. I always want you to put them on when you’re going outside, whether I’m around to tell you or not. Ok?”

Cas has given Dean his first coat. Dean is having a hard time believing his luck.

Summary
When Dean stumbled into his tavern, half dead, five weeks ago, Cas had no idea how deeply the boy would burrow his way into his heart.
He also had no idea that there'd be a day he'd wake up and find Dean gone.
Cas is strange, and quiet, doesn't like talking to people. He has rarely ventured outside of his inn, and never traveled beyond the nearest town. He's liked it that way, knowing how cruel people can be, knowing that with his....social difficulties, he's easily taken advantage of.
But Dean is even more vulnerable than he is. And now he's gone, having disappeared in the night. Cas can't let him vanish into thin air, can't abandon the boy to the world that has treated him so cruelly.
The outside is not a place Cas is comfortable venturing into. But it is where he's going to have to go, if he ever wants to get Dean back, and make sure the boy is safe.

This the third installment in the Wander Home verse, which follows Dean and Cas as teenagers in the middle ages, trying to handle traumatic pasts and find their way in the world.
