Summary
Martin is hunting when he sees them.
At first, his eyes drift past the smaller mermaid, his mind automatically dismissing them as too-sick-not-enough-meat. It takes a moment for the rest of him to catch up, and by that point, he’s already nearly at the other side of this particular reef. He has to circle back around.
The other mermaid is still alive, though it seems only barely. The water swirls around them, gentle eddies pulling long, dark hair this way and that. Their head is tipped back, braced on a patch of coral, mouth open. Gills flutter faintly on their sides.

“Don’t eat me,” the other mermaid rasps. The energy appears to desert them as quickly as it had arrived, and they slump back into place. “Please don’t eat me.”Series

Summary
Jon is an obligate ram ventilator with chronic fatigue, a mako shark mermaid, who had long since resigned himself to dying. Martin is an orca mermaid who stumbles across a near-death Jon and decides he isn't going to let that happen.
They might be able to make it work if Jon stops being terrified Martin is going to eat him and Martin stops being certain Jon is going to choose death over his company. (It wouldn't be the first time someone had.)
