Summary
“Eddie’s phone buzzes on the table. He glances down at the message preview and sees that Buck’s sent a picture to the 118 group chat. Smiling, Eddie unlocks his phone, expecting to see a pity-party selfie or a picture of a bowl of soup.
Instead, the image that loads makes his heart plummet into his stomach as the world comes to a screeching halt around him.
It’s Buck, folded awkwardly in what appears to be the trunk of a car, hands secured behind his back with zip tie handcuffs, duct tape plastered over his mouth, eyes closed.”

Summary
"Look, he needs a hospital and you want more time to figure a way out of this, right? So answer the phone, say that someone is injured, and let the paramedics come in here and get him. As a show of good faith.”
“And let me guess,” Walker scoffs, “you want to go with him?”
Buck cuts a glance to Eddie and Eddie feels ice creep up his spine. “No,” Buck says. “I’ll stay here.”
Oh, absolutely not. Eddie needs to stop this ridiculous idea right now. “Buck, no –”
“If you let him go, I’ll stay here as a hostage.”
Or: Buck and Eddie go engagement ring shopping. The day ends up more eventful than either of them bargained for.

Summary
"Can you remind my brother that we were supposed to get lunch?” Maddie asks.
“Uh sure,” Eddie says slowly, confused. “But why don’t you just call him yourself?”
“I did, a couple times, but he didn’t answer. I assumed he was still with you?”
Eddie thinks back to last night, to Buck specifically making plans to go back to his own place so he wouldn’t be late for lunch with Maddie. Buck had texted him when he got home, just a simple night :) that still made Eddie’s heart flutter, so obviously Buck had made it back to the loft… But there haven’t been any texts from Buck all morning. Not that that is necessarily unheard of, but especially over the last few weeks it’s become rarer and rarer for even a few hours to go by without Eddie’s phone dinging with a message notification from Buck.
A small tendril of worry curls around Eddie’s ribs.

Summary
There’s a groan behind him, and Bobby’s stomach drops for an entirely different reason.
His head jerks in the direction of the noise — his back protesting at the sudden movement — as he prays desperately that he’s somehow wrong, that the knock he took to the head is making him hear things. But of course, as his eyes bounce around the destroyed remnants of the building, he sees the only thing that could make his fear ratchet up even more.
Buck.

Summary
The man shoves Buck into the chair. Picking a hunting knife up from the tray, he points it at Eddie. “If you fight back or try to escape, I will slit his throat before you can even blink. Understand?”
Buck’s eyes cut to Eddie, wide and fearful. Eddie shakes his head vehemently, but he already knows it’s pointless. Buck is going to endure whatever this sick fuck has planned for him because Eddie would do the exact same thing in his position if he thought there was the slightest chance it would spare Buck. Still, Eddie pleads with his eyes, trying to tap into their wordless communication that Buck should fight to get free, to not just sit there and take it. But Buck just stares back at him with grim determination, and Eddie feels his heart sink.
Looking back at their captor, Buck nods.

Summary
“Hey!” Buck calls.
Eddie spares himself a moment to briefly entertain the idea of fleeing out the back, but knows it would ultimately be pointless. His truck is in the driveway so Buck knows he’s home, and they’re on shift together in two days and there’s no way his bruises will be gone by then, no matter how much he ices them.
“In the kitchen,” Eddie answers resignedly.

Summary
Eddie ends the call and forces himself to stand up again, even as he feels the beginnings of a panic attack prickling in his chest. Buck’s phone is here, meaning Buck was here – recently. But he’s not here now, and Eddie can’t think of any reasonable explanation for Buck’s phone being abandoned on the sidewalk.
Buck, where the hell are you?

Summary
“Dinner and a show,” Evan comments, his eyes zeroed in on where Tommy’s sleeves are pushed up to his elbows. “Maybe I should get sick more often.”
Tommy flicks a small piece of ginger at him. “If you wanted me to cook for you, all you had to do was bat those pretty eyelashes of yours.”
It happens so quickly. One second Evan is grinning exhaustedly at him, and the next thing Tommy knows, Evan’s eyes go wide as what little colour he has left drains from his face. Tommy makes an aborted move towards him, but Evan shoves his chair back from the island and bolts for the bathroom.

Summary
Eddie’s brow furrows as he scrutinizes him. “You good, Buck?”
“Yeah, I’m f–” Buck coughs again as he sits up. “I’m –”
Fine is on the tip of his tongue but what ends up coming out is a series of explosive coughs. It feels like there’s a vise around his chest that’s slowly tightening, and the coughing certainly isn’t helping him suck in the air he desperately needs. What the hell is happening to him?

Summary
There’s blood on the floor. A few splatters in a line, like the blood had fallen as someone hurried out of the kitchen into the hall. It’s not enough to indicate a serious injury but given that Evan is the only other person in the house and that he hasn’t responded to Tommy’s greeting, Tommy feels his heart rate kick up.
“Evan?” he calls, walking faster. “Where are you?”
There’s another prolonged beat of silence – Tommy’s pulse spikes even more – but then finally, blessedly, he gets an answer.
“In the bathroom,” comes Evan’s glum reply.

Summary
“Hi, doll.”
Ice pours into Maddie’s veins. She jerks her head in the direction of the voice, praying she’s just hallucinating after a long shift –
She’s not hallucinating. There, standing beside the dining room table, is the one person she hoped she’d never have to see again.
“Doug,” she rasps.
And then she takes in the rest of the scene.
Buck is sitting in a chair at Doug’s side. Duct tape is plastered over his mouth, his cheeks bulging in a way that means he must have something stuffed inside his mouth to further silence him, and his arms are pulled behind him and around the back of the chair, so he’s obviously restrained somehow. His eyes are wide and panicked, but he hasn’t moved an inch – probably because of the gun pressed against his temple.

Summary
“Hey!” Tommy answers, bright and chipper. “Didn’t expect to hear from you so soon. How’s the shift going?”
“Tommy…” Eddie gasps. Even though it’s only one word, he can hear how wretched his voice sounds.
There’s a sharp inhale on the other end of the line. All the cheer is gone from Tommy’s voice when he asks, “What happened?”
Eddie takes a breath, forcing himself to choke down the lump in his throat and speak clearly. “You need to come to First Presbyterian. Buck’s been in an accident.”

Summary
"Alex," Tommy says, his voice tight. "Wow. It's… been a while."
The guy — Alex — grins, evidently not bothered by Tommy's obvious lack of enthusiasm. "Yeah! Seven years, right?"
"Something like that," Tommy mumbles.
"Who's your friend?"
Buck's hackles go up as Tommy raises his eyebrows. After pointedly looking at their joined hands, Tommy says, "This is Evan. My fiancé."
Alex's eyes zero in on the black band nestled on Tommy's ring finger. "Oh," he says flatly. "Congratulations."
