This is a series of interconnected stories on the development of Bond and Q's relationship - as individuals and professionals who take note of and fixate on each other after the Silva incident, who grow close to each other in increments until they eventually become a very important feature in each other's lives. Duty - and soon after, trust - is what binds them.

Great series with both Q and Bond being frightfully competent and detail-minded. Lots of good character study in pov. Bond is very adept with tech in this one.
Pt 2 - cormorant
Pt 3 - xray of Bond's skull. interplay of power dynamics with Q in the dominating position
"Bond’s eyes go dark between one blink and another, and gone is the suave lady’s man, the agent on a mission with polished corners. Q’s looking at what he suspects is Bond’s base character, the person he’s most like at the core. He’s met him before, once, at the National Museum: quiet and still and dangerously unreadable in the weeks after the former M’s death."
Pt 4 - Bond beds a male mark, Q directs him onwards, Bond contemplates professionalism. B & Eve talk Q. Tanner confronts Q about favorites, feeds swans with Scarlet.
“Status, Bond,” Q suddenly says, and James catches his eyes, their gazes locking; there’s a snap of command in Q’s voice, a tone pitched to draw attention and one agents are practically conditioned to listen to, except this time it’s accompanied by a lightning quick thrust of the staff aimed at James’ solar plexus.
But this, something Q volunteers of his own volition – it’s a tiny detail that has no bearing on James, or the missions, or even MI6 for that matter, and that makes it almost intimate, that James now knows that Q’s staff is made from ash.
Pt 5 - Bond kidnaps Q, takes him to a suburban safe house to swap cars. Q takes a coat.
“People like you are once removed from the action. You see the consequences, you experience the emotions, but your hands do not feel the recoil of a kill shot or the sharp edge of a perfectly thrown knife or the warm tackiness of clotting blood—it’s harder, that way, to convince yourself that there is absolutely nothing more you could have done to prevent this.”

Pt 6 - Bond goes missing in Russia, Jacobs targets MI5 & becomes a problem, Q reassumes the Iota identity / goes undercover, hacker, & meets w him, gets the files. It's for the XX-program. Chimera was the trade.
