Summary
The young Viscount Xue Dingfei is slowly broken by Lord Pingnan, after being saved from the slaughter of the Loyal 300. Eventually, he is born anew as Dujun the Hermit, lonely and shattered, and a replacement for Xue Dingfei is found. Later, however, he finds solace in a new identity: that of Xie Wei, a gentle scholar. Sometimes he even thinks he is Xie Wei and can atone for his wrongs.
However, when he journeys to the capital with a fourteen-year-old girl called Jiang Xuening, they get caught in the snow, and Dingfei and Dujun come back. Will Jiang Xuening abandon Xie Wei? On one level he thinks that she should; but on another level, he’s delighted to find someone who understands him and stays with him.

Summary
Xie Wei comes to the capital with the intention to assassinate the Emperor, Shen Lang. However, once he comes to know his cousin, his attitudes undergo a shift.
[I wanted to explore the idea that Xie Wei came to the capital with a very firm intention to kill Shen Lang, but how his attitude changes.
Edited to add - okay, it’s become much much more - basically looking at a whole lot of scenes from XW’s rather skewed perspective. Also, now with raunchy scenes, so the rating has been updated.
Now finally finished - given the original intention of the fiction, I wanted to finish it with a scene with Xie Wei and Shen Lang.]

[I didn’t actually mean to write this - I meant to finish off one of the other stories I’m writing. But… here we are. I did promise to write something about the perspective of Xie Wei’s sidekicks, back when I was looking at the eunuchs’ view of this drama. Now finished.]

Summary
Zhang Zhe is astonished and confused when he hears that Princess Leyang’s study companions are fighting over his reputation. The only one of these women he’s met is his fiancée, Yao Xi, and he has the strong impression that she doesn’t want to marry him because he comes from the regions. He is asked to resolve a case where one of the study companions, Jiang Xuening, is accused of being a rebel. Unexpectedly, he falls in love with her at first sight.
Then he becomes aware that he’s certainly not the only man who admires Jiang Xuening. The mysterious Junior State Preceptor, Xie Wei, seems to admire her too. Why doesn’t she have any awareness of this?
The more serious questions, however, are who Xie Wei really is, whether he’s a rebel, and what he’s really up to. Zhang Zhe is determined to find out.
[So I want to finish off one of my other fictions - the post canon murder mystery with Liu Peizhi - but then I realised I had to explore how and why Zhang Zhe could have such a rose-coloured view of Jiang Xuening. This is my attempt to explain things from his perspective. He mostly only sees her on her best behaviour.]

Summary

State Preceptor Xie Wei is a breath of fresh air: he actually seems to like Shen Lang, he doesn’t seek political favours, and he has a refreshingly non-partisan approach.

[This is Story of Kunning Palace from Xue Dingfei’s point of view, from the time he first comes to the capital to the point when he leaves Guiyi Heights. It’s startling how little Xie Wei tells the imposter (for good reasons) but it’s also fun to see Xue Dingfei Imposter work things out, and even start to want his “twin’s” romance to work out. Wrote this while I had COVID a fortnight ago.]

Summary

Minister Gu Chunfang has come back to the capital from Jibei Province to take up office as the Minister of Justice, and found that his protégé Zhang Zhe is embroiled in a dangerous mess. He’s deeply suspicious of the Junior State Preceptor Xie Wei, and of the State Preceptor’s beautiful student, Jiang Xuening, who just “happens” to keep bumping into Mr Zhang. After Zhang Zhe’s mother dies, Mr Gu finds that Mr Zhang is in deep waters…
Features a silly limerick. I put this down to COVID fever.

Summary
I wanted to look at the scene in the cave with the bobcats from Ning’s point of view, to explain how she emerges from it with the views that she does. They’re still very much at cross-purposes at this point.
In Ning’s case, it’s because (1) she hates herself and can’t believe anyone loves her and (2) she’s afraid of Xie Wei because of her past life.

As her father discloses what he’s recently learned, Xue Shu is forced to reassess her interactions with Xie Wei and Jiang Xuening.
