Summary
The bow releases with a soft twang, and the girl yelps in surprise when the arrow pierces clear through the sleeve of her shirt and the wall behind her. Jumping down, he lands a few feet away in front of her on the second-floor balcony. Her dark eyes meet his own, hands wrapped tightly on the arrow’s shaft. She stares at him like she’s trying to explode him with her mind.
“Did you—you shot me with an arrow? What kind of jerk carries a bow around?”
Michael bristles, “I didn’t shoot you, I shot at you. Big difference. And you’re the one who’s trying to—”
Wait a second.
“You can see my bow?”

“Huh. We actually made it.”
Drew stops her trek forward, fixing him with a sharp glare. “You’re gonna jinx us now.”
Michael snorts, taking his time to shake out his legs. “Don’t be a baby, we’re fine.”
She scowls, stepping over and shoving him hard. “You’re so—go knock on that tree! That’s all you have to do!”
Michael blow a raspberry at her, and she shoves him again, frowning. Before he can respond, a loud slam of a car door makes them both jump. They turn just as the cab driver steps out, towering over the car at such a height that Drew wonders how he even got in the damn thing in the first place.
Drew glances to Michael, her stomach lurching. Before she can stop him, he cups his hands out and shouts, “Yo, dude. Everything good?”
The man doesn’t even look to them, head down as he circles to the back of the car. He pops open the trunk and steps back, and Drew stifles a yelp when a pair of legs swing out from inside.
As another man climbs out, the driver finally looks over to them, and Drew instinctively takes a step back. She hears Michael suck in a breath next to her.
“…Did he always have one eye?”

“I know you might not like music lessons much, kiddo, but the point of Camp is to push us out of our comfort zone from time to time,” Lee says softly, folding his hands in his lap. “The blessing—and I guess curse—of being an Apollo kid is that we have so many different talents in our cabin. We need to give all of our siblings a chance to work on their passions.”
Lee studies Will’s face, hoping something he’s saying is getting through. Similar to most of his head counselor career, he’s really just grasping for straws—improvising based on similar talks he’s had with stubborn campers before.
“You don’t have to do much today, but you won’t know if you’ll enjoy it till you try.”
He stands and circles around to face Will, whose expression remains frustratingly neutral. For such a small kid, he’s got a fantastic poker face when it counts. Lee kneels slightly and extends a hand, offering a soft smile. “So? What d’ya say, firefly?”
Will stares up at Lee, his gaze flicking between Lee’s outstretched hand and his face. Lee holds his breath as Will’s shoulders soften, a small smile forming.
He meets Lee’s eyes, and in his sweetest voice says, “No.”

Summary
They head up the stairs to the second floor, where Lee opens an unassuming door on the left. As Will steps inside, he’s greeted by a cozy room that feels straight out of the seventies. The walls are painted a loud green, and an antique lamp with a colorful base casts a warm glow from the corner.
In the center of the room, surrounded by mismatched worn couches, sits a low coffee table holding a few well-loved books and scattered board games. And on one of the couches, a boy with his legs crossed is shuffling a deck of cards in a blur of motion, his thick, fluffy dark hair falling almost fully over his face. His gaze flicks up as they enter, breaking his concentration.
Will once read that no one has truly black eyes, only a really dark brown. But he thinks anyone who believes that has never met this boy. Even under the warm corner lamp, his eyes stay stark against his light tan, impossibly dark—like pools of ink that seem to drag Will in the longer he stares.
Pretty, is the first thought that flies through his head as he studies the boy, quickly followed by a Wait, what? He shakes off the thought, deciding to deal with that for later.

Summary
A pair of green eyes blink into the sunlight, startled, before settling on Silena and Lee. “Um.”
Lee represses the urge to laugh at the sight in front of him. Percy clearly looks like he just woke up, dark curls smushed flat on the right side of his head. The neckline of his faded Fall Out Boy shirt is stretched out, pairing beautifully with his bright blue basketball shorts. He’s mid-toothbrushing, movements slowing as he looks between the two of them curiously.
Silena flashes the younger boy a sharp smile. “Well, hi there, Percy! Glad you’re up. We’re here for cabin inspections today!”
Percy makes a choking sound, and Lee instinctively steps back in case he does a toothpaste-filled spit-take. Thankfully, the younger boy manages to keep it down, covering his mouth as he garbles out a reply. “Can I ‘ave five minut’s?”
And really, if it was just Lee, he’d have happily obliged. But unfortunately for Percy, Silena wears the pants in their partnership. With a firm shove, she pushes past him and into the cabin. “Nope! Now go spit, you’re drooling all over the floor.”

This night is no different, as Will finds himself cross-legged on one of the cots, a roll of bandages in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other. Michael would probably have a field day if he found out Will dreamed about things like this, but he supposes that the beauty of these dreams. It’s all for him, and him only.
He falls into a rhythm of pulling the bandages and cutting even strips, humming absently to himself as he works. Pull, measure, cut, pull, measure—
Suddenly, there’s a prickle at the base of his neck, like eyes are on him. Before he can even process it, he whips his head up, palming the scissors as a makeshift weapon to find the intruding presence. His eyes scan the room, and as he spots a figure emerging from the supply closet, the scissors almost fall from his hand.

Will groans, slumping forward on the table. “I wanted it to be Silena’s mom.”
“You said you’re looking for your dad, dummy.”
“She’s a goddess! She could magic into a dad for me.”

“Tough day?”
She closes her eyes, exhaling slowly. “Fighting with Lee. He just… gods, I’m so fucking annoyed with him right now.”
Luke’s lips twitch into a faint smile. “Figures. Never met anyone else who could tick you off so fast.”
That pulls a small laugh from her. “He gives me good reason most of the time.” Her smile fades as lingering frustration boils back up, and the words begin to tumble out. “I get it. Camp’s been on edge recently with… everything. But that doesn’t give him the right to mother-hen me about my feelings with his stupid lie-detecting. I mean, it’s hard enough to do anything when everyone’s constantly turning on each other. And my siblings, I love them, but it’s like I can’t even breathe without someone needing me, because everyone’s scared all the time. And now I’ve got my—my best fucking friend on my case too? I just… I just wish things would get better already.”
When she’s all talked out, there’s a moment of peace. The relief of finally being able to speak her mind eases some of the negativity that’s been swirling through her since the afternoon.
But then, she sees it. Dark brown eyes giving way to molten gold, the friendly expression hardening .
“Lie-detecting?”
