Summary
He forces his gloved hand through dirt, rock, dust, pushing past the bite of glass shards until his fingers finally hit something solid.
Eddie’s shoulder.
“Hey.” Buck’s voice drops, breath trembling. “We’re not there yet. You hear me?”
His hand tightens.
“You’re not there.”
A promise more than reassurance.
“You’re gonna tell Christopher whatever you wanna tell him – yourself – after I get you out.”
The silence that follows lands thick, like the air itself has gone still. Eddie’s gaze stays fixed forward, eyes glimmering faintly in the dust-choked light.
Somewhere above them, metal groans.
Buck keeps his hand where it is, the only steady thing left in a world that’s still trying to bury them.
Everything they’ve buried between them begins to surface.

Summary
“I don’t know what you want from me anymore,” Eddie says through the door, his voice worn thin at the edges. There’s a soft thud against the wood, and Buck doesn’t need to see it to know – Eddie’s forehead resting there. “Talk to me.”
“There’s nothing to say,” Buck replies. The words come out flat.
“How about when you said you don’t need me?”
Buck exhales, slow and heavy.
Because that’s it. The lie he wants to believe because believing it would make everything hurt less. The one that keeps failing him – failed him today, almost got him killed, almost pulled him down into the pit because for one terrifying moment he was sure Eddie was gone.
One bad call, one broken dam, and suddenly Buck and Eddie aren't pretending anymore.

Summary
“LA Dispatch to Engine 118, be advised–”
Eddie’s head snaps up.
Maddie. Dispatch cadence – clean, clipped, controlled.
Chimney’s eyes flick to the radio, then to Eddie, before he answers.
“118, go ahead.”
Maddie continues, steady as a metronome.
“We have a reported MVC on the Fletcher Drive Bridge, repeat: multiple-vehicle collision. Units en route have visual confirmation of two cars at the scene.”
Eddie’s pulse stutters. He leans forward without meaning to, the seatbelt tugging tight across his chest.
Maddie keeps going, all professionalism, no tremor, until she hits the words that break.
“One of the vehicles is… a Jeep that went over the railing into the water.”
orThe Jeep nde you didn’t know you needed.

Summary
There’s no trace of exhaustion on Eddie’s face as he comes back, a paper tray with two coffee cups in one hand and a huge plastic jar of cheese puffs in the other.
“What is this?” Buck shakes his head. “How are you still hungry?”
“Road trip food.” Eddie makes a face, like Buck is the one being ridiculous. “You don’t have to be hungry. You just have to be on the road.”
Buck laughs and reaches for the jar. “I haven’t had these in forever.”
“Same,” Eddie says, popping the lid open. “No road trip in the Diaz family ever happened without them.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.” Eddie laughs quietly, shaking a few into his palm. “We’d get cheese powder everywhere – seats, clothes, our faces. Our mom would get so mad every time. Make us clean up after.”
He looks down at his hand and adds, softer, “But the mess was always worth it.”
you’ve all seen Tim’s version, and this is mine – the roadtrip kidnapping fic (where they stop at the motel and kiss and talk before the shit goes down)
