Summary
Cerydra interviews Hysilens.
-
Cerydra's mouth almost smiled. "Most people find me difficult."Hysilens tipped her head. "Most people are intimidated by competence. I find it refreshing." After a pause, she added, "Let me be direct, Ms. Cerydra. You're brilliant, demanding, and you built an empire by not tolerating less than perfection. You need someone who won't back down when you're ruthless, who won't gossip when you're vulnerable, and who won't quit when you're impossible."
Cerydra spoke softly now, almost thoughtfully. "And you think you're that person?"
Hysilens nodded. "I know I am. The question is whether you’ll trust someone who won’t just obey, but will tell you when you’re wrong."
Cerydra's face hardened. "I am never wrong."

Summary
Castorice works as mortician alongside Cyrene as florist, specifically arranging flowers for the dead.
-
Castorice was reviewing the week's schedule when Cyrene burst through the mortuary door, her eyes wide with confusion and something that looked like barely contained laughter.
"Cas, you need to see this." She waved a cream-colored envelope with gold embossing.
"What is it? Another family wanting to pre-plan?" Castorice took the envelope and pulled out the card inside. Her eyebrows shot up. "Is this... a wedding invitation?"
"Not just an invitation," Cyrene said, pulling out a second sheet. "A commission. Anaxagoras Hartwell wants me to arrange flowers for his wedding to Aglaea... something. The last name is smudged."
Castorice read through the elegant script. "He's requesting white roses, peonies, and baby's breath for the ceremony. Reception centerpieces. Bridal bouquet. The full package." She looked up at Cyrene. "Did he realize he contacted a funeral florist?"

Summary
Aglaea thought the old house was a steal until she discovered why. It comes with a Victorian ghost who's insufferably opinionated, maddeningly persistent, and unfortunately, the best conversation she's had in years.
-
"Don't make me say it. Not when you're literally disappearing in front of me."
"I need to hear it. Please."
She closed her eyes, feeling tears slip down her cheeks. "I love you too, you impossible ghost. I love your terrible timing and your opinions about polyester and the way you hover near my workspace pretending you're not interested. I love that you're Victorian aristocracy who learned to pour water for a struggling seamstress. I love—" Her voice broke. "I love you, and it's not fair. None of this is fair."
When she opened her eyes, he was almost completely gone. Just the faintest suggestion of cold, a whisper of presence.

Summary
Phainon's rare condition makes sunlight lethal, forcing him to live in darkness. At a gym, he meets Mydei, an injured boxer who becomes his only light. But loving someone means risking everything... including his life.
-
Later, at the diner, they discovered they'd both ordered differently than usual. Phainon getting the French toast instead of pancakes, and Mydei ordering a vegetable omelet instead of his standard breakfast sandwich.
"Character growth," Mydei declared, gesturing at his plate. "My therapist would be proud."
"It's an omelet, not a personality transplant."
"Baby steps." Mydei took a bite and made a face. "Okay, this is terrible. I understand why I never order this."
"Want some of my French toast?"
"Yeah?"
Phainon pushed his plate to the middle of the table. Mydei did the same with his omelet. They ate from both plates, trading bites and commentary, and it felt domestic in a way that made Phainon's stomach flip.

Summary
A DUI almost ended Phainon's career overnight. Now his management has him locked down in university, hidden from the press, the public, and his own life. But anonymity comes with a price, and someone on campus is watching him a little too closely.
-
"I'm not asking you to sleep with me. I'm not asking you to throw away your principles or compromise yourself professionally. I'm just asking—" Phainon reached out slowly, giving Anaxa every opportunity to pull away, and touched his hand where it rested on his knee. "I'm just asking if we can stop pretending this isn't happening."
Anaxa's breath caught. He looked down at Phainon's hand on his, and for a long moment, he didn't move. Then slowly, he turned his hand over and laced their fingers together.
"This is a terrible idea," he said softly.
"Probably."
"You're going to break my heart."
"Or you're going to break mine."
"Both, maybe. Most likely both."
But he didn't let go of Phainon's hand. Instead, he squeezed it gently, and Phainon felt that simple contact like electricity through his entire body.

Summary
A companion piece to Sunward, in which Mydei lives happily with Phainon, who survives the anaphylactic reaction.
-
"Bed," Phainon managed between kisses.
"Patience," Mydei said, but moved them in that direction anyway.
They undressed each other slowly despite the urgency, taking time to appreciate what they'd revealed. Mydei's fingers traced the faded scars on Phainon's arms from past reactions, gentle and reverent. Phainon mapped the landscape of Mydei's body—the still-healing surgical scar on his shoulder, the various small marks from years of boxing.
"You're so beautiful," Mydei said, pressing Phainon back onto the bed.
"You're biased."
"Extremely. Doesn't make it less true."
