Summary
In theory, Vero Solano is living every hockey-obsessed kid’s dream. After surviving a string of hazing incidents, they’ve clawed their way to the Show – the Thedas Hockey League. When Vero is traded mid-season to the Antiva City Crows, they’re preceded by their reputation as a stand-offish loner who prefers anonymous hookups off the ice to team bonding. To everyone’s surprise – including and especially their own – they soon find themself connecting with Viago de Riva, the Crows’ enigmatic goaltender whose on-ice brilliance has earned him respect despite his own eccentricities.
A 14-year THL veteran and the cornerstone of the franchise, Viago has spent his entire career barely tolerating his teammates. Still, there’s something about Vero’s careful detachment that’s entirely too familiar. Despite his misgivings, he finds himself offering the Crows' newest defense player post-practice advice that quickly evolves into something that looks dangerously like friendship – and maybe more.

He looks up only when Vero pauses next to his row. “Hey,” they say, voice quiet. “Sorry, I –” they glance at him, then back at where Illario has already lifted the armrest to sprawl comfortably across both chairs in his row. “There’s not a lot of seats left. Do you mind …”
They shift their weight uneasily, clearly uncomfortable, though perhaps that’s due to the slight limp they’ve had since the game ended. Viago suspects it’s more to do with him, and the unspoken tension that’s grown between them in the weeks since that night at the annual Dellamorte Charity Gala. Still, Vero has apparently determined that sitting next to him, as unwelcome as it might be, is at least superior to trying to claim a seat next to Illario.
After an ill-considered one-night stand, Vero and Viago navigate sharing space on a team charter flight from Kirkwall to Tantervale.

Summary
The Antiva City International Airport is quiet at three in the morning, empty aside from a few weary travellers collecting luggage from the baggage carousels. Vero checks their phone, and then the overhead screen that displays the incoming flights. Flight AA 321, arriving from Minrathous—now landing. Viago’s flight was delayed, he was supposed to have landed more than two hours ago, which means Vero has had that long to consider all the ways in which their presence here is absurd.
When Viago returns after two weeks away for an international competition, Vero impulsively ventures to the airport to offer him a lift home.

Summary
Viago’s heart is already racing, drumming against his ribs so loudly he’s certain Vero must hear it. He knows what they’ve both agreed to, what they so carefully negotiated between them, and yet now that the moment has arrived, he hesitates.
They talked about it a week ago, that morning after he’d woken next to them—coffee cups on the table, both of them on the couch hunched over his laptop, trying to determine how exactly to approach this. It made Viago feel like a teenager again, awkward in his own skin, somehow both terrified and exhilarated.
