Summary
He understands what this whole thing is about. New base. New routines. New people, who are also inexplicably very comfortable touching his stuff. Everyone means well, but they still manage to disrupt his entire sense of order without fail. And he gets it, really - that they’re all adjusting to this arrangement. Learning what it means to coexist with others in a place too big in some areas, too small in others. Trying to act like a cohesive team instead of individual operatives thrown together in a single space.
And that’s why Bucky keeps his room spare, his drawers well-organized, his clothes folded the exact same way every time - because those are among the very few things he could still control in this place.
He kept to his usual routines and rhythms in the Watchtower because they felt predictable. Comfortable.
Safe.
Which is why the case of his first missing shirt immediately pisses him off.

Summary
“There you are. I need to talk to you.”
Out of the blue, Yelena steps into the kitchen, eyes focused on Bucky.
Except she’s coiled tight. Nearly vibrating from… something. The way her mouth was downturned like that? Told John things were about to get nasty.
Apparently, Bucky’s aware of all the signs, too, because he asks, in a very neutral tone, “What is it?”
As if he’s already bracing for impact.
Yelena crosses her arms and walks closer to him - until they’re almost standing toe-to-toe. “You know, you really should be constantly checking your phone, Bucky. Because then you might not have missed Mel’s fourteen calls, and then she wouldn’t have had to call me for a favor to tell you about that thing that, apparently, you’d asked her to do for you.”
Bucky’s jaws tighten.
But Yelena’s on a roll. “You know? The one about Bob?”

Summary
The rest of the meal carried the same energy. At one point, Alexei loudly recounted an espionage story that somehow ended with him stealing a goat. Bucky had asked more about the fate of the said goat, genuinely curious, for once. Meanwhile, Yelena had placed another healthy heaping of pasta into Bob's plate despite the latter's protests. Then Ava laughed at something John had told her, her expression bright and open.
Suddenly, Bob, who was sitting beside her, reached across her to grab the plate of grated cheese. In doing so, somehow, his arm came close to the side of her throat.
It was an ordinary movement. Harmless, really. Done without care or thought.
Still, Ava absolutely freezes in her seat.
Like her body's bracing for a hit that never comes.
Her flinch is small. Barely visible, really - and true enough, no one saw or noticed it.
Except Bucky.
