"Oh no! No," Benedict replies quickly, even emphatically, with a short laugh. "I was just... wondering. About your... condition. All of your... conditions."
"...I see." Except Mrs. Wilson absolutely does not.
He opens his mouth, closes it, and then asks, completely out of the blue, "Do you think the maids would appreciate receiving pastries today?"
She blinks.
And blinks again. "Pastries, sir?"
"Or cakes," Benedict adds. "Or any type of sweets, actually."
At her befuddled look, he continues, "I was thinking of buying some for Gregory as sort of a welcome home gift, but then I realized... why not buy for everyone in this household? Including the servants and maids. That way, we all would enjoy them. Equally."
She stares at him. Hard.

Summary
Benedict lets himself roll in bed and sink further into that warmth, all in an effort to chase away the cold engulfing his body. The functioning portion of his brain recognizes that he's in bed with someone - or rather, someone's in bed with him. The rational part of him remembers that he hadn't actually invited anyone to it that night.
The irrational part, however, told him: it doesn't matter.
So long as they're this soft and warm.
His palms move down a slender form; despite his sorry state, he still recognizes the shape of well-formed shoulders, short arms, and full, delicious hips. He places his hands there for a while, squeezing, admiring - before pulling them flush against his own body.

Violet can't quite understand how or why Benedict has seemingly taken a deep interest in the Bridgerton House, and yet here he was, sitting with her and Mrs. Wilson for their discussion of things related to running it.
"Benedict," she'd gently said, "I don't think--"
"I am filling in for the Viscount, am I not, Mother?" he'd responded brightly. "Thus, I do believe the matters of this household currently concern me." Benedict then turned to their housekeeper and said, "Speak freely as always, Mrs. Wilson. You may even pretend I am not here, if doing so would make you feel more at ease."
Mrs. Wilson only raised a brow at his antics before turning to Violet.
Who merely sighed and said, "Very well, then. You may begin, Mrs. Wilson."
At some point, Benedict looked bored out of his wits. Violet was about to excuse him when Mrs. Wilson said, "There is something peculiar about one of our staff, Ma'am. The new girl, Sophie. Or rather, her situation before Mr. Bridgerton brought her here."

Really, relocating to the countryside and working for Sophie was probably the best thing to ever happen to Alfie--
--if only he could learn to set aside his great dislike for Benedict Bridgerton.
Who, to be fair, was all smiley and good-natured and welcoming to both Alfie and Irma when they arrived. He was right beside Sophie as they showed them their rooms and all the parts of their new home. He was right beside Sophie when they had dinner at My Cottage for the first time.
In fact, it seemed like he was right beside Sophie every single day.
"You don't think it's odd?" Alfie whispers to Irma, well outside of Mrs. Crabtree's earshot. "He's practically attached to her hip!"
Irma tuts at him. "That is to be expected, Alfie. They are newlyweds!" she hisses, as if that explains everything.
And perhaps, it should.
Still, it irks Alfie anyway.

Benedict nods, eyes still on Sophie. "Obviously. You think I could do a blissful marriage on my own?"
Eloise stifles a sigh and pinches Benedict just to get his attention again. "You do realize this new development in your life has put you on a permanent ban from our world-shunners clubhouse, don't you?"
Benedict yelps and rubs the now-tender spot on his side. "Yes. Which..." Here, he turns to fully face her, "...I sincerely hope you could forgive me for? In fact, I would beg and grovel in front of you right now if that could bring me back into your good graces, my fair, fair sister."

Sophie takes Posy's hands in between hers and says, "Breathe, Posy. It's all right."
The younger woman follows the advice and exhales quietly, before smiling largely again and continuing, "And you and Mr. Bridgerton look so handsome together! Oh, I cannot imagine you marrying anyone better. He is so kind and gentle and attentive, is he not? I don't doubt he'll make a wonderful husband for you, and I'm so glad he's not marrying Rosamund, of all people! She doesn't at all deserve--"
And then Posy covers her mouth and looks around them. "I apologize, Sophie. I didn't mean to be so rude."
"You are not," Sophie comforts her. She looks behind Posy - half-expecting Rosamund and, god forbid, Araminta, to be behind her. "You came alone?"
Here, Posy looks slightly bashful. "Not exactly," she replies. "Although I did not come with Mama or Rosamund, if that would ease your mind!"

So, upon his return from Mayfair some time after lunch and after he'd dragged her to their bed because he was tired, Sophie had thought it wouldn't take long for Benedict to fall asleep himself. To her, that had been his plan. Then he'd buried them deep under blankets, grabbed her hand and held it over his chest, and then he--
--launched into a very detailed monologue about his lengthy discussions with his brother, the Viscount Bridgerton, about the decisions Benedict had made on Anthony's behalf while the latter was in India. Something about investments in copper and coal, and maybe even the repeated building and rebuilding of a broken fence.
At first, Sophie had strived to reply earnestly and sincerely whenever she could. After a while, she feels her body completely relax. Her eyelids begin to droop. And she decides to close them for a little while, intending to open them eventually, maybe after a minute or so. She doesn't plan on taking a nap anytime soon, after all.
