Buck doesn't bother with knocking and waiting like he has been doing with Eddie lately. Eddie had said the suspect's car was at his house and then he'd hung up, when Buck was already on his way out the door. Eddie could be in trouble. Chris could be in trouble.

Chris shakes his head. "Can I…talk to you?"
"Y-yeah, Chris. Of course. Any time."
"Any time?" Chris repeats, sounding a little skeptical as he peers over the top of his glasses right at Buck.
"Yeah, Chris. Any time. You could call me at 3 AM and I'd jump out of bed to answer your call."
Chris just blinks at him. That was too much. That was too much. That was definitely too much, he tells himself. He and Chris aren't like that. He's just his dad's dumb friend.
"You're really not bothered about your parents divorcing?" Chris says instead.

Summary
They're six hours in. Six hours into the ten—though it's definitely been elongated by Eddie's frequent need to stop to rest his "wing" and check on Buck, go to the bathroom, buy more snacks and coffee, make sure the coolant levels in the car are still good.
They've checked in on each other, of course. Maybe an annoying amount. And Eddie's more than once snaked a hand over to put it somewhere on Buck's body, just for proof of life.
So, there they are, six hours (more like eight?) into this drive, and Buck's soft groans are starting to get louder. He's not saying anything. Because neither of them have really said anything.
Eddie knows they kidnapped Buck because they wanted to replace their son. Buck knows Eddie escaped the hospital in someone else's clothes. Everything else is just details the other doesn't need to know. Or maybe is too scared to ask about.
Eddie wants to know. He does. He wants to ask.
Or: Buck can't keep going in the car. They have to stop. And they have to talk.

Everyone has gone home. Well, everyone but Eddie and Chris. It's not that they're not still showing up. They are. But they have lives that need attending. It's just that…Eddie and Chris are here. They're living here. Chris has taken up residence in the guest room, Eddie the couch. They have suitcases for Christ's sake; they're doing laundry!
Or: Buck and Chris talk in the morning before Eddie has to go to work and Maddie comes to watch Buck.
