Summary
In Akihabara, in August of 2010, the Future Gadget Lab is raided by Rounders. They confiscate the Time Leap Machine, and abduct Okabe Rintaro, Makise Kurisu, and Hashida Itaru- three lab members responsible for the machine's creation.
Shiina Mayuri, Lab Member 002, is killed.
No one was there to help. No one was there to turn on the 42-inch CRT in the shop downstairs. No one was there to remind Okabe to use the Time Leap Machine to prevent Mayuri's death.
And thus, the Alpha Worldline continued.
This is the story of the creation of the time machine, and the story of those who dared to try to change their fate.
And as the universe begins to slowly wrap Its finger around us, our efforts are proven time and time again to be; entirely useless. But still, we continue. Why? Because man cannot seem to grasp the concept of the smallness of his existence. This is truly our greatest strength.

Okabe Rintaro finds himself stranded in a worldline of his own volition in the hopes of saving Mayuri and Faris's father.
