Classic. All-time fave. I reread this series each year (around Thanksgiving, usually, or between Thanksgiving and Christmas) and look forward to there being a new installment or two each year if we're lucky.
It's a post-Winter Soldier alternate universe where Bucky & Steve go into hiding (after escaping) and just live their lives, but it's more complicated than that. At times hilarious, at times there's some angst. There's art and podfic too. Multiple short stories set at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Other stories told as Advent stories (some with winter holiday content).
Mostly I just love this take on both Bucky and Steve; there's a really lovely Natasha in this series too. Everyone's great. There are dogs and a cat and Steve paints a lot and Bucky and Steve build things and are popular in their neighborhood.

I love a Bucky who is great with kids and exasperated with (and at times delighted by) Steve so this is a great deal of fun, what with all the young Steve clones. It’s advertised as crack or a crack premise and it is funny as heck, but the additional chapters in particular are sweet or bittersweet and there’s just a lot of charm and weight to this in addition to being very funny. Love it. There are a number of stories with young Steve clones, but we get to see them older in this too. My heart. Steve’s POV is handled really well too.

I had difficulty deciding where to put this vid, but knew I wanted to include it as it is just so beautiful and well put together. Great concept and execution and song choice. "But to whom do they belong" hits different now than when this vid first came out, doesn't it?

This has such a great dramatic introduction of The Winter Soldier that I thought about having it be the first Winter Soldier vid, but in the end I wanted to warm up to this sort of thing. Brilliant use of this song and such great editing for the dramatic action bits. Eh, it's all good, I don't know where to start when I talk about all these vids that I love. I remember loving the vid when it first came out, but the remaster somehow made it even better.
The "dream girl" and "problem" clip selections are so great. "You and me against the world" and "you know what they say about me" and yup, lots of great lyric matches in this vid too. In addition to the brilliant editing choices.

Had to lighten things up a bit (but only a little) with this next vid choice featuring another great song choice with great lyric matches within the vid. Steve saves Bucky, but Bucky also saves Steve. Probably the shippiest vid of the vids so far, though things will focus on Bucky & Steve as a ship more and more, I think these vids should work even if you don't ship them as it is clearly canon they are close.
Can't help but feel heartbreak here for both of these young and beautiful boys, to use the language of the song. Heartache, actually. So many great shots coupled with the lyrics about being young or beautiful or the places they used to live. "Devil's water" oh no. There are just so many great sequences to match lyrics and music in this vid.

Ahhhh, this vid. I'm in love with this vid. I saw a draft for part of it when it wasn't yet complete as did some other folks on a Discord and I'm so glad those other folks encouraged stardust_rain to finish it and that they did!
Such a cool concept and way of showing parallels and differences in their stories, set to a great song choice for that. So many great lyric matches and matches between scenes and bits where they're just a little off (intentionally I presume because it fits) and eeee. I could write a whole essay on the use of split screen here and juxtapositions of scenes and the bits where the screen stops being split as the voices join together. Just a truly great vid.

This vid packs such a punch, telling both of their stories to this song. Some great lyric matches (can you tell I'm a sucker for those?) and the end hits hard. So well executed.
"Life is great" is such an "oh Bucky" moment and "cocaine body" and "he knows he's going to be somebody" for Steve. B not believing in fate. Time slipping away. Oh no. "Tired of conversation" and "final scene" and yup, lots of great use of lyrics with good clip choices.

I debated so hard as to what vid I should use in this playlist to show the first appearance of Bucky as The WInter Soldier. There are lots of great vids that have dramatic "here is the Winter Soldier" moments that would've been great, but I was following the mood set in the previous songs and the mood of the movie and this vid just fits really well.
This vid is creepy and cool and brings home the fact that both Steve and Bucky became science experiments used by forces bigger than them. "Useless but not for long" and "my future is coming on" are both such great lines that get repeated and Gianduja Kiss matches footage so well to those lines in such clever ways.

When making playlists of fanvids (or even just music), I tend to go for shorter songs more often than long ones to keep things moving. This vid is over six minutes long which is A Lot to put in a mix, especially so early on, but Settiai's vid does such a masterful job of showing Steve's story from The First Avenger into The Avengers that I had to include it. It also flows well from "Sorrow" musically, thematically, and chronologically which is amazing.
They nail the key moment when "the war was in color" is first uttered in the song and they keep on nailing all sorts of beats with great lyric matches. Casting Tony as "grandson" amuses and delights me for some reason. All the "let's start with the end" moments and "black and white photo" moments are so good. (Oh, Steve.)

I love the way this song is used with so many images of being in water, above water, higher up above other things-- there's good use of flames too. The cut between the two bridges. It's a great song and great use of it, also some great sequences involving movement to the beats (and other sounds). Framing it as Bucky remembering is clever. Silence at the beginning and the end works well too.
Further proof that some things I often find distracting or unpleasant in some vids, can work well in the right hands-- in this case it's clips that show characters talking with no diegetic sound; it may help that I know the source so well I know what is being said, but I think it's also novel after having watched so many vids that use the same clips to see some different ones in the mix. And of course as with any vid, the clip selection and arrangement is important.

I love the opening sequence of this vid so much; I suppose this is another song I'll forever associate with Bucky (and Steve). Love the use of trailer-only footage of Bucky in eye black holding the shield; there are a few vids in a row here that use that (& it delighted me to use that as a way to smoothly segue from one to another).
This vid has so many good lyric matches. "How could you know that those were my eyes?" The vibe of this song works so well for both Winter Soldier and Civil War with all the "it's like they know" and "here they come" and "nobody listening" moments. Just a lot of lyrics that work really well for this source (I haven't even mentioned the lines involving being dangerous and about loving someone so much.). Great use of flashbacks to The First Avenger too. Good action sequences to the beat of the song.

I love that this is exclusively a Civil War vid. Whenever I watch it with my husband around, he says "he just wanted some plums!" I know, dammit. I like that it just tells the story of Civil War pretty much from Bucky's perspective, in the order things happen. Such momentum to this and brilliant use of the action sequences to the music. He wants no trouble! Let him have some plums and candy bars and his Cap exhibit brochures okay. "Maybe you can save my soul. All the things that I don't know." Oh no (oh yes). "I need redemption." There are times I think this is my favorite Bucky & Steve vid, but there are so many good ones for different reasons it's not like I can pick just one. "Do you like girls or boys" and so many other fun lyric matches in here. "This chaos is killing me" and the great action sequences. The "bye bye love" sequences oh no. Classic vid is classic.
I love the structure of this: focusing on Steve first and then Bucky and then bringing them together. The war sequences at the start are so good too. "Don't you want to be free?" hurts my heart.

I like this vid a lot, even though I'm so literal-minded I keep thinking "he's not really a criminal exactly" and stuff of that nature (why should it bother me with this song and not some others? No idea).

It amuses and delights me that this is still the Stucky fic with the most Kudos on AO3. It's short! It makes me laugh out loud! What's not to like? And I love how there are thousands of people who now know about Gros Michel bananas thanks to this fic. This is Sam POV in a story set post-Winter Soldier.
he grabs his phone and does some quick googling: bananas different past present. He scrolls down a little, clicks a likely-looking article, reads. "Oh," he says. "Guys. Here you go. The bananas you grew up with were a species called Gros Michel, but in the fifties a banana plague wiped them out—because apparently there are banana plagues—and now we eat a different kind."
"They couldn't call 'em something else?" Bucky protests.
"Like 'lie-fruit'," says Steve.
"Imposter-berries—"

Clint with his eardrums trashed, Barnes with a regiment’s worth of trauma and a psychotic cybernetic arm, put in the same room and told to make nice while the others get to go on missions and do important things and save the world.
Well they're not broken. So of course they got bored and tired of being sidelined and decided to entertain themselves. And of course they ended up wanted, running through the streets of Paris with bananas down their pants and gendarmes in pursuit. Of course they did.

Fun fic set in a sort of post-Winter Soldier AU where Clint & Coulson are together (& so are Bucky & Steve) and Bucky is still recovering. (The ships are in the background, I see this as more of a gen tale.) Clint is recovering from a head injury and has lost almost all of his hearing and is adjusting to that.
POVs alternate, mostly we get Bucky and Clint, but sometimes others.
People push Bucky and Clint together and they wind up having a sort of baking competition. And then there's something about Marie Curie's banana bread recipe and soon the two snipers are both in Paris trying to acquire it. And stumble into a situation where hostages are taken and bad guys are after something and oh gosh, there's also time travel.
For all that this is a fun adventure, their jaunts to the past are a bit angsty and emotional (heed the tags).
I'll keep a look out, he signs. Barnes pulls his knees up tight and turns himself around. He only puts his boot in Clint’s face once, which is, all in all, pretty good considering how tight the space is, before he goes sliding back along the vent the direction that they came. Clint shimmies out of the backpack and unzips it.
He pulls out the bananas, the concrete case, and the class-2 hazard suit he definitely didn’t take from Bruce Banner’s lab. He does pause for an instant, looking at the array before him, thinking of the guns below him, and the ex-Soviet assassin going to watch his back armed with nothing but Clint’s favourite paring knife, and he does wonder for a moment about his life choices. Then he shrugs because it’s too late now, and starts pulling on the hazard suit.
Getting into a hazard suit while lying on your belly in an air vent takes some doing, but he gets it sorted out, blows out the ventilator to clear it, grabs the concrete case, tucks the bananas and the bag into a darkish corner, and shimmies through the little busted door.

Nice quiet post-Winter Soldier fic wherein Bucky starts visiting Steve's apartment. Doesn't even enter the place at first. Steve is patient (imagine that!) and Bucky starts coming in and then spending more time there.
Bucky doesn't come into the kitchen as Steve makes the sandwich, and when Steve carries both plates into the living room with a bottle of water under each arm, he sees Bucky standing next to the window. "You can sit down," he says, trying to pitch his voice as gentle as possible. "If you want."
He puts Bucky's plate and one of the waters on the little bookshelf, then backs up until his knees hit the sofa, and sits down.
"I don't know why I come here," Bucky says, once he's eaten half the sandwich.
Steve makes himself shrug. "That's all right. You don't need to know. I'm just glad you're here."
Bucky looks at him sharply. Then he returns the plate to the shelf - the other half of the sandwich in his hand - and jumps nimbly back out the window.
Steve takes a deep breath, and continues with his own dinner.

One of my favorite post-Endgame fics. The fic matches the title (there's also great art). Love this take on an older Steve Rogers and what that means for his relationship with Bucky (and Sam and others). Fascinating look at what might actually happen to the world once half the population returns and also at what Steve might've done while he was away (and what he might do on his return). Mostly Steve POV.
I totally buy that it could go something like this, with Steve and Bucky after it all. Love this for them (even as some of it is painful).
“We’ll be okay,” Bucky tells him.
Steve turns his head and Bucky is staring back at him, gaze soft like he can hear all the things that Steve isn’t saying.
“I mean it,” Bucky says, setting the carrier down on the floor of the quinjet with a thump. “We’ll be fine. We learned from you.”
“Barnes!” Sam shouts and Bucky salutes once as the ramp closes behind him and the engines power up as the hangar door yawns open.
Steve stands in the empty space and puts his hands into the pockets of his cardigan, waits there until the quinjet is gone from view and he can’t hear the rumble of the engines. He walks home to Buster and makes some tea in a large mug. He puts on his reading glasses and sits in his big soft chair with Buster in his lap, stroking his smooth, gray and white fur. He tries to read his book, tries to draw a little, tries to work on a crossword. He gives up when the sun starts to set and makes dinner instead, heating up a frozen lasagna. Buster gets his canned food in a little dish and he snuffles at it appreciatively while Steve gets out silverware and plates. It’s only when he’s setting everything out on a tray that he realizes he’s instinctively putting together a meal for Bucky as well as himself.
He stares down at the extra plate and food and swallows hard.
After a long moment, he carefully scrapes the extra lasagna into a Tupperware and stores it in the refrigerator. Bucky is always starving after a mission. It’ll keep.
