“That’s better,” the man chuckles, tightening his grip on Sanji’s wrist before standing. He begins to walk, dragging Sanji along with him as he tugs the blond into the tree cover and away from his crewmate.
Sanji feels his heart racing, rabbit-quick. His head spins as if he’d overindulged on liquor.
“-sop?” The blond tries, though he can barely hear the plea to his own ringing ears.
The blond’s arm wrenches at the joint as he’s drug across the ground. First in jarring, halted pauses, before the man’s gait evens out and he’s pulled at an even pace.
Panic snags and tangles at his legs, creeping up until it’s snug around his throat. It doesn’t stop until it reaches the bite mark along the column of his neck.
And, with mounting horror, Sanji comes to realize what else has occurred.
His mating bite, Zoro’s bite, with its prominent, ever present warmth.

“Hm?” Zoro paused, casting his good eye over his shoulder. Sanji was frowning, rubbing the back of his neck underneath the small low ponytail his hair was gathered into, taking a wide look around the docks. He glanced back, catching Zoro’s eye, and flushed, snapping upright.
“Well the sun’s setting soon, isn’t it? I’ve only got a few hours left to find a gift before we sail back to the ship-” He was already stamping off towards a cobblestone staircase leading back to the shopping district, swearing - “I hate you so much!”
Zoro laughed, earrings glinting in the orange sunlight, watching Sanji scurry with that book tucked in his arms like a newborn.
“Love you too, cook!”---
Now in their early thirties, Zoro and Sanji are about to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, and against all odds, the gift Zoro got Sanji was perfect. Perhaps... a little too perfect. Maybe he's imagining things, but it feels to Zoro like his husband has been treating him more distantly than usual, and enough is enough - he's determined to figure out the root of the problem, because he misses him too damn much not to.
